New Information Released on Missing Molly Dattilo (Missing Since July 6, 2004)

Molly Dattilo has been missing since July 6, 2004 and has not been seen or heard from since. Molly Dattilo was a student at Eastern Kentucky University; however, attended classes Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis in 2004. New information has been released by her family as to the final known steps of Molly Dattilo.

Description: (Picture)

  • At the time of her disappearance, Molly Dattilo was described as being about 5 feet tall
  • 100 pounds, with an athletic build
  • shoulder-length, light brown hair
  • green eyes
  • a dime-size birthmark on the outside of her upper right arm.

But yesterday Ben Dattilo said the family has learned she later met an Indianapolis man at her apartment complex, went on a rowboat ride with him on a lake at the complex, and then went to eat dinner with him at a nearby Taco Bell.

Then, he said, the pair went to a gas station, where Molly Dattilo tried to phone a friend. But the call was disconnected when the friend answered, he said.

“We have every reason to believe she placed her last phone call in (the man’s) presence from this location,” Ben Dattilo said. “We do not know what happened after this phone call, but it’s our family’s sincerest hope that others may have information about what happened that night, what happened to Molly or where she is now.”

The Courier-Journal is not naming the man because he has not been charged with a crime or named by police as a suspect. (Courier Journal)

The police are not saying whether this man last known being with Molly is a suspect or providing names.

Family IDs man seen with missing woman

Family: Woman With New Acquaintance Before Vanishing

Private investigators believe Molly Dattilo spent the evening she vanished — July 6, 2004 — in Indianapolis with a 33-year-old man whom she had met that day at a friend’s apartment, according to Dattilo’s brother, Ben Dattilo.

Ben Dattilo said he wouldn’t speculate on whether the man had anything to do with the disappearance. However, police said Thursday that while they also believe the man, John E. Shelton, was with Molly Dattilo on the night she vanished, they don’t consider him a suspect.

“Buddy Up for Safety” Program Put forth in Burlington, VT in wake of death of Michelle Gardner Quinn

All to often college age students think they are invincible and bullet proof. Then tragically they are reminded that they are not as in the case of murdered UVM student Michelle Gardner-Quinn. Burlington, VT police are stressing the “Buddy Up for Safety” program. We would stress to always use judgment. One never needs to walk around in constant fear, one needs to just use judgment. That includes the friends around college age kids as well. You all know when one of your friends, whether drunk or impaired, is doing something that contains a high risk. Step in and be vocal. Help your friends that may not be able to make a proper choice for themselves, it may be the only chance you have to save them. Don’t let friends go off alone or with strangers … please “buddy up”.

The new awareness program called “Buddy Up for Safety” advises people to walk with others, carry a charged cell phone containing emergency contact numbers and park in well-lighted spots.

“If grabbed, don’t freeze or panic. Draw attention to yourself by yelling worlds like ‘Call 911,’ ‘Help’ and ‘No,’ loudly and repeatedly,” he said.

Tremblay said he will encourage UVM to add more emergency phone call stations on Main Street “to send a message that this is a safe area.” (WCAX)

DNA Match of Blood Found on Brian Rooney’s Pants of Murdered Michelle Gardner-Quinn

There has been a big break in the murder investigation of Michelle Gardner-Quinn. We have BrianRooney1a match. A DNA sample taken from the pants of the prime suspect, Brian Rooney, in the disappearance and murder of Michelle Gardner-Quinn has been found to be hers.

The blood was found on the blue jeans of Brian L. Rooney, 36, giving police at least one piece of physical evidence allegedly linking the man they call their prime suspect to the Oct. 7 disappearance of Gardner-Quinn.

Rooney, who has denied any involvement in the woman’s disappearance but is being held on unrelated sex charges, was ordered by Vermont District Court Judge Michael Kupersmith to submit to DNA testing during a closed-door hearing Thursday, according to David Sleigh, his court-appointed lawyer.

It appears that the court appointed attorney for Brian Rooney let the cat out of the bag even though the court hearing was supposed to be closed. This could be the beginning of the end for Brian Rooney and the piece needed to prove who was responsible for the murder of Michelle Gardner-Quinn.

That was revealed by David Sleigh, a court appointed lawyer for Mr. Rooney in an interview with the Associated Press. He said the DNA evidence was revealed at a hearing, a hearing that Sleigh thought was open, when it was actually closed. (WCAX)

Brian RooneyCt

DNA match even though mums the word because of a sealed affidavit.

In an affidavit, prosecutors said a Vermont State Police analysis showed the DNA samples to match, according to Sleigh.

Deputy Chittenden County State’s Attorney Justin Jiron would not confirm or deny the DNA match when asked Thursday, saying the affidavit was under seal. “I’m not allowed to talk about the results,” Jiron said.

Neither Police Chief Thomas Tremblay nor Lt. Kathleen Stubbing would confirm it, either.

District Court refused to release the affidavit, saying it was under seal.

A search of the suspects home on Monday revealed the following.

In a Monday search of Rooney’s parents’ home in Richmond, police found photographs and videotapes of naked women, one of which was labeled with the girlfriend’s name and showed a woman lying face down on a bed, making no movements as she was sexually assaulted.

The latest charges could put Rooney away for life. (Burlington Free Press)

From the material found during searches and the past allegations against Brian Rooney, one wonders what the police in Vermont were thinking by having this predator walk the streets. Its okay to press charges against Brian Rooney now, but not in the past?

Suspect Brian Rooney in Murdered Michelle Gardner-Quinn case Due in Court on Separate Sex Charge

Brian Rooney, a suspect in the disappearance and murder of UVM senior Michelle Gargner-Quinn will be in court today for a separate sex offense. This sexual offense charge dates back to 1998 and revolves around a sexual assault on a minor. One question that immediately comes to the forefront is why only now is Brian Rooney being arraigned on the 1998 sex offense charge against a minor? Looking back on events, maybe our society might have been a little more safer if Brian Rooney had either been in jail or had to have registered as a sex offender.

Brian Rooney

(Suspect: Brian Rooney)

Authorities may want to explain why Brian Rooney was allowed to walk among us when he was considered a danger. They just forgot about him. How many times will these things happen when a sex offender is only deemed a danger after they kill? Who does not think that the “sexual assault on, and lewd and lascivious conduct with, a minor” was just not a precursor of offenses to come?

Thirty-six-year-old Brian Rooney was the last person seen with 21-year-old Michelle Gardner-Quinn before she disappeared on October seventh. Surveillance camera footage from a jewelry store shows them walking down a Burlington street. Gardner-Quinn was found dead in a ravine on October 13th.

Rooney is scheduled to be arraigned in St. Johnsbury on charges of sexual assault on a minor. He also is charged with lewd and lascivious conduct with a minor. (Fox 21)

Brian Rooney, 36, will be arraigned today from an incident from Essex County, VT where he was charged with a sexual assault on, and lewd and lascivious conduct with, a minor.

Both charges, stemming from a 1988 incident in Essex County, were brought as a result of information that came to light as cops probed him about Michelle Gardner-Quinn’s disappearance. (NY Post)

The police continue to pursue leads that point to Brian Rooney being the primary suspect in the murder of Michelle Gardner-Quinn. Rooney was the last person seen with Michelle the last night she was seen alive. Garner-Quinn also used Rooney’s cell phone the night she disappeared.

Burlington Police continue to build a case against Brian Rooney in the homicide investigation of 21-year old Michelle Gardner Quinn. A call that the victim made on Rooney’s cell phone led police to the 36-year old construction worker. Rooney was the last person seen with Gardner-Quinn before she disappeared early Saturday morning a week ago. When hikers discovered her body at Huntington Gorge yesterday, police made the arrest, and as Burlington police chief Tom Tremblay phrased it, now it’s as if a whole new investigation has started. Police on Saturday said they are in no position to release any information of significance. They still need the public’s help. (WCAX)

Brian Rooney has been a “person of interest” and suspect from the outset, closely being watched by authorities.

… but investigators still need to know more about the hours right after he was caught on a security camera, walking up Main Street with the victim shortly after 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning. “Our investigation continues to focus on Brian Rooney’s actions and whereabouts during the time period from Saturday, October 7th at 2:30 a.m. to mid-morning Monday, October 9th. We are also interested in information regarding the red Jeep Grand Cherokee,” said Stubbing.

Police impounded the Jeep they say Rooney drove, but they say there is no evidence that would indicate the victim was ever in it. Still, police want to know where the vehicle was during the week. They also want to know where Rooney was.

Suspect Brian L. Rooney Acted Very Strange After Michelle Gardner-Quinn went Missing

Brian L. Rooney who was arrested due to other unrelated charges of sexual abuse in Vermont remains the primary suspect in the case of murdered Michelle Gardner-Quinn. Rooney has not yet been charged in Michelle’s murder.

There will be a Memorial Service for Michelle Gardner-Quinn scheduled for Sunday Night, October 15, 2006 at The University of Vermont.

It is being reported that Brian Rooney was acting in a depressed manner following Michelle Gardner-Quinn’s disappearance.

Days later, Rooney was seen with cuts on his hands when he stopped at Walt’s Game Room, a candy store and pool parlor in Winooski, where he was a regular customer, owner John Barton said Saturday. It was either Monday or Wednesday, Barton said.

“He looked very down and depressed,” said Barton, who asked Rooney about police activity at the house where he was staying.

“I asked him what the deal was with the FBI and police and everything going around. He said he was the guy who had lent the missing girl his cell phone,” Barton said. “He basically said `I was walking up the street with her and when I got halfway up she went one way and I went the other and I don’t remember anything after that.”‘

Barton said he noticed two or three cuts on Rooney’s right hand but thought they may have been suffered on the job because they were scabbed over.

According to one of his neighbors Rooney was also acting in a strange manner:

A woman who lives upstairs from the Winooski apartment where Rooney was staying said Saturday he came home drunk late Wednesday and told her he did something wrong with “the girl from the college.”

“He came up and he was drunk, crazy,” said Amy Stewart, 25.

“He said he did something wrong with that girl. That’s all I know. I say `Tell me more, tell me what’s going on,’ and he said he not going to tell me anymore,” she said. (FOX News)
