The one time missing persons case and full scale search for Marine Lance Hering has now turned into an arrest warrant. The story of missing Lance Hering which is now known to be a hoax, fake and diversion to create the impression that Hering disappearance. Lance Hering is due back at Camp Pendleton on Monday. The disappearance of Lance Hering is about to turn into an AWOL. Let alone Hering has violated the terms of a previous deferred sentence.
(CBS4) BOULDER, Colo. The Boulder County Sheriff’s office has obtained an arrest warrant for Lance Hering who’s accused of staging his disappearance.
Hering is due back at Camp Pendleton in California on Monday.
Now, he’s wanted for violating the terms of a deferred sentence he got after a burglary conviction in 2004.
Police aim to arrest Marine: Warrant is from probation violation
Boulder authorities issued an arrest warrant Friday for a missing Marine who they believe, with the help of a friend, staged his disappearance to avoid returning to duty and possibly another tour in Iraq.
In addition, the Boulder County district attorney’s office authorized a nationwide extradition order, should Lance Cpl. Lance Hering be found outside of Colorado.
You talk about making one of the stupidest mistakes of one’s life. What were these two people thinking. Hering will have a sentence violation and soon to be desertion. Even more amazing Hering was only 3 weeks away from being cleared of his prior violation.
The warrant stemmed from Hering’s violation of the two years’ probation he and his friend, Steve Powers, received in 2004 after pleading guilty to felony burglary.
Greg Brown, chief probation officer for Boulder County, said that both men were three weeks away from being clear of their probationary status. Had they made it, the felony convictions would have been wiped from their records.
Instead, Brown said that if they are caught they could face a maximum of three years in prison after a probation hearing.
“If only they had waited,” Brown said.

Five days after Lance Hering went missing in Eldorado Canyon State Park, the police have called off the search and now believe the disappearance may be a hoax.
After five days of searching to no avail, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office now believes that the Marine who was lost in the mountains was never missing and may have staged his disappearance.
Lance Hering disappeared just days before he was set to return to Iraq, Denver TV station KMGH reported.
Steve Powers, Hearings friend who told the police that Hering fell and hit his head while both were rockclimbing has been arrested for providing a false story to the police.
Powers, 20, was arrested Wednesday night after he admitted during police questioning that he made up the story about the hiking accident and helped Hering stage his disappearance, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said.
“There were a number of inconsistencies in his story and as we pursued that with him in an extensive interview last night, he ultimately confessed that he and Mr. Hering had colluded in staging this whole event,” Boulder County Sheriff’s Lt. Phil West said.

Sheriff Says Marine Disappearance Staged
DENVER – Authorities who spent five days searching for a Marine after a friend reported him lost in a hiking accident have arrested the friend and said Thursday they believe the disappearance was staged, so the serviceman could avoid returning to duty.
Authorities are still trying to find Hering, 21, who returned from Iraq in July and was due back at Camp Pendleton, Calif., this month.

Marine’s friend jailed, Boulder authorities believe Iraq veteran’s disappearance staged
Steve Powers was arrested by Boulder officials for filing a false missing persons report to police. Powers admitted admitted to investigators that he made up the story because his friend did not want to return to the Marines.
BOULDER – A man arrested for filing a false police report about a missing Marine pleaded guilty in 2004 to felony burglary – a crime in which the Marine also took part.
Police, who spent five days searching for Lance Cpl. Lance Hering, said Thursday they believe his disappearance was staged so the 21-year-old Marine, who served in Iraq, could avoid returning to duty.

First Disappeared, Now a Deserter
Whether Hering has taken off to Mexico, is living off the land in the Rocky Mtn. foothills, or is just on an extended walkabout before reporting (and probably facing time in the brig) remains unclear. It’s pretty clear, though, that this is a case of the general military disaffection with the unpopular war in Iraq striking home in the person of one confused Marine.

Air Force Maj. Jill Metzger, 33, disappeared Tuesday after being separated from a group of servicemen while visiting a department store in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Local police rule out a kidnapping; however, one just does not vanish from a department store.
A U.S. military spokeswoman said Thursday that nothing has been ruled out in the disappearance of an American servicewoman who vanished two days ago, even though the local police chief said she was not kidnapped.
“I rule out the theory that the U.S. citizen may have been kidnapped,” Interior Minister Murat Sutalinov told reporters. He said that police had received no demand for ransom.
However, Capt. Anna Carpenter, a spokeswoman for the U.S. military base in Kyrgyzstan where Metzger is stationed, said “nothing has been ruled out.”
On Thursday The Pentagon formally declared Air Force Maj. Jill Metzger missing.
The Pentagon on Thursday formally declared Metzger missing, a status officially known as “duty status whereabouts unknown,” and disclosed that her normal duty station is Moody Air Force Base, Ga., as a member of the 347th Mission Support Squadron. It said she was on temporary duty in Kyrgyzstan but offered no other details.

Military: Nothing ruled out in officer’s disappearance
Investigators continues to look for missing Air Force Maj. Jill Metzger. Metzger and another US servicewoman were recorded on a security camera on Tuesday afternoon as they entered a department store.
Metzger and another U.S. servicewoman were recorded on a security camera on Tuesday afternoon as they entered the TsUM department store in central Bishkek. She separated from her companion three minutes later, he said.
In the next three hours, two calls were placed to her cell phone but neither was answered; records show that the phone was in the area of Bishkek’s bus station when one call was placed, but was in another neighborhood for a later call, Jangarayev said.

Jill Metzger Update: Kyrgyz Police Consider All Angles
“Police are considering all angles in the case of the missing officer, including personal reasons,” a service spokesman said.
After examining the department store’s videotapes and a list of the officer’s cell phone calls, investigators established that she spent about 10 minutes in the store before leaving through the central entrance. She then made two local calls before her phone was switched off at 8 p.m. local time.

BREAKING: U.S. Air Force major found Alive in Kyrgyzstan
Thank God, Maj. Jill Metzger was found alive. Her family must be overwhelmed with joy.
BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan – A U.S. Air Force officer who disappeared earlier this week in Kyrgyzstan was found alive and returned to the American air base in this Central Asian nation, a U.S. military official said early Saturday.
Maj. Jill Metzger, 33, was located by Kyrgyz law enforcement agents in Bishkek, the capital, where she had last been seen before vanishing during a shopping excursion Tuesday, a spokeswoman for the U.S. base at Bishkek’s airport, Capt. Anna Carpenter, told The Associated Press.
Metzger was found on the side of the road with her head shaven, her father-in-law, Kelly Mayo, said in a telephone interview with the AP from Colorado Springs, Colo.

Missing Air Force Major Found Alive; Jill Metzger Reports She Was Kidnapped Two Days Ago In Kyrgystan
What really happened and how she was abducted. She was abducted by 3 young men and a woman.
Metzger said she had been abducted by three young men and a woman in a minibus and held in a rural area 30 miles from Bishkek, Suvanaliyev told The Associated Press, citing local police in Kant, where he said she approached the first house she came to. He said she looked exhausted and her hair was dyed.
That account differed somewhat from one given by Metzger’s father-in-law, Kelly Mayo, who said in a telephone interview with the AP from Colorado Springs, Colo., that Metzger was found on the side of the road with her head shaved.
Maho said she had also been beaten. “I know she’s coherent, and whoever had her let her go,” said Mayo. “We’ve got her back. Praise the Lord.”
Suvanaliyev said the people who took Metzger in when she knocked on their door called the police.
Mayo said the Air Force’s Office of Special Investigations notified the family Friday afternoon but were given few details. He said his son, Air Force Capt. Joshua Mayo, was elated after being told about his wife.
“I can’t even describe it. He’s just beside himself, just unbelievable joy,” Mayo said.

The following is an example of when the tragic and bizarre becomes beyond cruel and unusual. You may not remember the name Johhny Gosch; however, he was one of the very first missing children to ever be placed on a milk carton in the 1980’s.
Johnny’s disappearance triggered nationwide fears of child abductions. He was one of the first faces of missing or abducted children to appear on milk cartons across the country.
Two photographs were left at the door of Noreen Gosch of her son, Johnny Gosch, who was abducted and has been missing for 24 years. The pictures were of Johnny Grosh, 12, and two other boys who were gaged and had their hands bound.
(NBC5, WMAQ Chicago)
The old photos appear to show 12-year-old Johnny Gosch with his mouth gagged and his hands and feet tied. The boy is wearing the same sweatpants Johnny was wearing when he disappeared while delivering newspapers on the morning of Sept. 5, 1982, his mother said.
For someone to abduct a 12 year old boy is sick. For someone to send a picture of the missing abducted boy some 24 years later to the boy’s mother boards on cruel and twisted vile insanity.
Gosch said investigators confirmed the photos were authentic and likely taken within “hours or days” of the abduction. She said they were checking for fingerprints that could lead them to the source and possibly a breakthrough in a case that has long baffled authorities. The other boys in the photo were unidentified.
Meanwhile, others connected to the case have reported receiving the photographs through anonymous deliveries and the Internet.
(The Kansas City Channel)
Noreen Gosch had believed that her son was taken by child pornographers.
Gosch believes her son was taken by child pornographers. She told authorities he briefly contacted her in 1997 but feared for his life and declined to give details about where he was. She believes his abductors got him involved in crimes, which is why he is hiding his identity.

Police said today that state crime experts were examining photographs to determine if they are of a newspaper delivery boy who disappeared 24 years ago.
The photos were left Sunday at the front door of Noreen Gosch, the mother of Johnny Gosch, who disappeared on Sept. 5, 1982, while delivering newspapers in West Des Moines.
Lt. Jeff Miller, a spokesman for the West Des Moines Police Department, said the photos were given to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation’s computer crime task force.

Missing Pine Bluff Teen Update (Casey Crowder)
Casey Crowder disappeared early Sunday morning and has not been seen or heard from since. FBI and other agencies have been searching the “ditches and bodies of water” near Pickens where they believe Casey was last.
Crews were searching ditches and bodies of water. Several agents, including the FBI, spent most of the day in the town of Pickens. It’s believed that’s where Casey Crowder was seen last.
Thursday marks day 4 of searching by air, by foot and by four wheelers. Crews flood the tiny town of Pickens hoping to find any clue as to the whereabouts of Casey Crowder. Sheriff Don Smith says no evidence has been found. And there are no suspects either.
(Sheriff Don Smith, Desha County)”We’ve interviewed her boyfriend two or three times, two of his friends, at least three times. Several polygraph tests, everything comes out fine.” (KATV)
Where Is Casey Crowder? Sheriff Don Smith of the Desha County Sheriff’s Department, Casey Crowder’s mother Melinda and her aunt Cindy Bennett go “One The Record”.
VAN SUSTEREN: Melinda, any idea is there — would your daughter ever take off? It doesn’t sound like a case where she’d take off but any idea would she take off?
CROWDER: No, she would not. She was very close to all of her family and friends and there was no reason at all for her to run off. That’s just not an option. She didn’t have any reason to. She had just tried out for the school’s softball team the Saturday before. All of her clothes were in her room.
She had just called me and, you know, I told her that if — you know, I asked her if she wanted me to come and pick her up and she said, “No, mom, don’t worry about it. I’ll call so and so and get him to get them to bring me some gas and it will be all right” you know. And I said, “OK, are you sure?” And she said, “Yes.” And I said, “Well call me back if you need me” and then I didn’t hear from her anymore.

Authorities believe that Trenton Duckett is in danger. It is believed that Trenton was taken through his bedroom window.
Investigators said they’re very concerned, and the FBI has been called in to help search for the boy.
Detectives said they think Trenton was taken through his bedroom window. Investigators said they also found signs of forced entry into the apartment.
“When we were checking out the area, it was discovered that at least one entry point of the apartment has some signs of tampering. I can’t really go into too many details about that, but that did lead us to be extremely cautious regarding foul play or something of that nature in this case,” Leesburg Police Department Capt. Steve Rockefeller said.

UPDATE I: (8/29/06) Police still hunt for missing boy
LEESBURG — Police were still searching late Monday for a 2-year-old boy reportedly abducted from his bedroom during the weekend.
The boy is the grandson of James Duckett, the former Mascotte police officer who is on death row for raping, strangling and drowning an 11-year-old girl, according to Jeanne Bragg, a longtime family friend. That crime occurred in 1987, and he was convicted in 1988. The Florida Supreme Court upheld the conviction in October.
Family members said the boy’s parents, Melinda and Joshua Duckett, both 21 years old, had been fighting for custody of the child. The couple filed for divorce in June and live in separate cities, according to court records.
Last month, Melinda Duckett requested a restraining order against her estranged husband.
In her petition for injunction, she said she received an e-mail from Joshua Duckett in July, threatening to hurt her and Trenton, court records said. Her petition stated “Joshua would hunt my son and I [Melinda] down and that he will bury my son with me.”
