Sister in Law, Dorothy Torrez contacts authorities … Abigale Lynn Woods Safe … Suspect Shannon Beck Arrested in Abduction/Kidnapping

The abduction of Abigale Lynn Woods has some to a safe and happy conclusion. Abby was AbigaleLynnreturned safe, unharmed and in excellent condition on Tuesday according to reports. The FBI have arrested a suspect in the brutal kidnapping. The suspects name is being reported as Shannon Beck, a woman who lived nearby the Ochsenbine residence and who was pregnant but who supposedly recently miscarried. The suspect amazingly fit the exact profile that the FBI had initially put forth.

FBI agent Roland Corvington identified the suspect as Shannon Beck, who had been pregnant recently but was believed to have had a miscarriage.

Abby was taken Friday when a home invader stabbed her mother.

Shannon Beck was passing the story that she had given birth; however, her sister-in-law became suspect of the story. The hero in this event is Shannon Beck’s sister in law, Dorothy Torrez, who confronted Beck when she noticed the strawberry birth mark on the baby’s forehead

Four days later, the case broke when Beck’s sister-in-law, Dorothy Torrez, contacted authorities.

Torrez became involved Sunday when Beck contacted her to say she had given birth, Corvington said. Torrez visited Beck on Monday and noticed what appeared to be makeup on the baby’s forehead, Corvington said. When she rubbed the forehead, a small birthmark became evident.

In publicizing the abduction, police had described Abby’s strawberry-red birthmark. Her suspicions aroused, Torrez confronted Beck, who gave her the baby, Corvington said. (Chicago Tribune)

Suspected Arrested supposed name is Shannon Beck

The woman, intially identified by police as Shannon Beck but who later claimed to have a different name, was arrested in connection with the disappearance of 11-day-old Abigale “Abby” Lynn Woods, who became known as “Baby Abby.” The woman’s age was not immediately known.

Beck miscarried a full-term fetus on Friday, the same day Abby was abducted and the baby’s mother, 21-year-old Stephanie Ochsenbine, was attacked with a knife, authorities said. Beck lived several miles away from Ochsenbine’s residence, said FBI Special Agent Roland Corvington. (Watch investigators discuss how the baby was found — 3:09) (CNN)

The suspects observant sister-in-law noticed the much publicized baby Abby’s birthmark and began to question where the suspect go the baby. Not taking no and the fabricated stories as the truth, Dorothy Torrez confronted her sister-in-law and she finally admitted what she had done.

Beck called her sister-in-law, Dorothy Torrez, on Sunday to say she had given birth, and Torrez visited Beck on Monday and Tuesday, Corvington said.

While accompanying Beck to a doctor’s appointment Tuesday, Torrez noticed makeup on the baby’s forehead, the special agent said. Police reports had indicated the baby had a birthmark on her forehead.

While Beck was inside the doctor’s office, Torrez rubbed Abigale’s forehead with her cap and the makeup came off, revealing a birthmark, Corvington said. Torrez called her own husband and Beck’s husband before confronting Beck, asking her if she had attacked the infant’s mother, the agent said.

Beck told Torrez she found the baby along a road, Franklin County Sheriff Gary Toelke said.

The district attorney is expected to announce charges against Beck Wednesday morning, Toelke said. (CNN)

Black Scarf Found of Potential Kidnapper of Baby Abigale Lynn Woods … Who Takes a Child?

Authorities investigating the disappearance of  Abigale Lynn Woods have located a black scarf near the home where she was abducted. The 21 year old mother, Stephenie Ochsenbine, had told police early on that her attacker was wearing a scarf.

Abigalebabykidnapscarf

On the fifth day of the investigation, Franklin County Sheriff Gary Toelke was hoping the drawing, as well as a picture of a black scarf that was recovered near the home on Saturday, would generate new clues.

Abigailbabykidnap_scarf1

The drawing shows a woman with dark hair wearing a baseball cap, and Ochsenbine told authorities the woman also was wearing a scarf. Toelke said she is believed to be between 5-foot-4 and 5-foot-8 and is heavy, perhaps about 200 pounds.

He called the scarf a “pretty significant piece of evidence” that he would like the public to see. (FOX News)

The question has arose as to what type of individual would take a child in such a violent manner. The mother, Stephenie Ochsenbine, was stabbed several times including having her throat slashed. During the violent altercation to take baby Abigale, the other younger child was left behind unharmed. What motivates someone to perform this crime?

Abigale “Abby” Lynn Woods.

The recent kidnapping of Abigale “Abby” Lynn Woods has dominated the local news and reached the national media because of the urgency to find the newborn. Statistics show there have been roughly 200 baby abductions in the U.S. in the last two decades.

Bausman said even with a small, statistical sample, there is a pattern in the cases.

“I would not be surprised if this woman was unable to have children but maybe is using a child to shore up a relationship or maybe she recently experienced a still birth or miscarriage and felt this incredible void and she saw a way to fill that.”

Bausman doubts birth announcements on yard signs instigated this or most other abductions.

“We don’t need to be reacting to this in a closed mouth fashion of don’t put yard signs up, don’t announce to the world I’ve had a baby because these people tend to do their homework before they commit such crimes,” said Bausman. (KSDK)

Experts: Baby abductors driven by need, mental trouble

What drives a stranger to snatch a mother’s newborn?

Experts theorize it could be desperation, mental illness or lack of conscience.

But a retired FBI special agent who led a study of 120 baby abductions in the U.S. over 10 years said most women who steal infants are driven by the belief a child will resolve a problem in their lives. And that problem primarily is a desperate need to preserve a relationship with a man.

“Typically, they come from a subculture where their worth is intrinsically tied to bearing children,” said Ken Lanning, who spent 20 years in the FBI’s Behavior Science Unit at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Va.

They figure that once they come up with a child – and they devise elaborate plans to achieve that – “they’ll live happily ever after,” he said. (Belleville News Democrat)

Air Force Maj. Jill Metzger Missing in Kyrgyzstan (UPDATE: Found Alive)

Air Force Maj. Jill Metzger, 33, disappeared Tuesday after being separated from a group ofJill Metzger servicemen while visiting a department store in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Local police rule out a kidnapping; however, one just does not vanish from a department store.

A U.S. military spokeswoman said Thursday that nothing has been ruled out in the disappearance of an American servicewoman who vanished two days ago, even though the local police chief said she was not kidnapped.

“I rule out the theory that the U.S. citizen may have been kidnapped,” Interior Minister Murat Sutalinov told reporters. He said that police had received no demand for ransom.

However, Capt. Anna Carpenter, a spokeswoman for the U.S. military base in Kyrgyzstan where Metzger is stationed, said “nothing has been ruled out.”

On Thursday The Pentagon formally declared Air Force Maj. Jill Metzger missing.

The Pentagon on Thursday formally declared Metzger missing, a status officially known as “duty status whereabouts unknown,” and disclosed that her normal duty station is Moody Air Force Base, Ga., as a member of the 347th Mission Support Squadron. It said she was on temporary duty in Kyrgyzstan but offered no other details.

Military: Nothing ruled out in officer’s disappearance

Investigators continues to look for missing  Air Force Maj. Jill Metzger. Metzger and another US servicewoman were recorded on a security camera on Tuesday afternoon as they entered a department store.

Metzger and another U.S. servicewoman were recorded on a security camera on Tuesday afternoon as they entered the TsUM department store in central Bishkek. She separated from her companion three minutes later, he said.

In the next three hours, two calls were placed to her cell phone but neither was answered; records show that the phone was in the area of Bishkek’s bus station when one call was placed, but was in another neighborhood for a later call, Jangarayev said.

Jill Metzger Update: Kyrgyz Police Consider All Angles

“Police are considering all angles in the case of the missing officer, including personal reasons,” a service spokesman said.

After examining the department store’s videotapes and a list of the officer’s cell phone calls, investigators established that she spent about 10 minutes in the store before leaving through the central entrance. She then made two local calls before her phone was switched off at 8 p.m. local time.

BREAKING: U.S. Air Force major found Alive in Kyrgyzstan

Thank God,  Maj. Jill Metzger was found alive. Her family must be overwhelmed with joy.

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan – A U.S. Air Force officer who disappeared earlier this week in Kyrgyzstan was found alive and returned to the American air base in this Central Asian nation, a U.S. military official said early Saturday.

Maj. Jill Metzger, 33, was located by Kyrgyz law enforcement agents in Bishkek, the capital, where she had last been seen before vanishing during a shopping excursion Tuesday, a spokeswoman for the U.S. base at Bishkek’s airport, Capt. Anna Carpenter, told The Associated Press.

Metzger was found on the side of the road with her head shaven, her father-in-law, Kelly Mayo, said in a telephone interview with the AP from Colorado Springs, Colo.

Missing Air Force Major Found Alive; Jill Metzger Reports She Was Kidnapped Two Days Ago In Kyrgystan

What really happened and how she was abducted. She was abducted by 3 young men and a woman.

Metzger said she had been abducted by three young men and a woman in a minibus and held in a rural area 30 miles from Bishkek, Suvanaliyev told The Associated Press, citing local police in Kant, where he said she approached the first house she came to. He said she looked exhausted and her hair was dyed.

That account differed somewhat from one given by Metzger’s father-in-law, Kelly Mayo, who said in a telephone interview with the AP from Colorado Springs, Colo., that Metzger was found on the side of the road with her head shaved.

Maho said she had also been beaten. “I know she’s coherent, and whoever had her let her go,” said Mayo. “We’ve got her back. Praise the Lord.”

Suvanaliyev said the people who took Metzger in when she knocked on their door called the police.

Mayo said the Air Force’s Office of Special Investigations notified the family Friday afternoon but were given few details. He said his son, Air Force Capt. Joshua Mayo, was elated after being told about his wife.

“I can’t even describe it. He’s just beside himself, just unbelievable joy,” Mayo said.

Missing 2 year old Trenton Duckett, Police need help to Verify Parent’s Alibis

There is still no sign of two year old Trenton Duckett who has literally vanished. Trenton Duckett 3According to reports he was last seen in his room on Sunday at 7:00 pm EDT. His parents noticed him missing at 9:00 pm. Police are trying to confirm the alibis of the parents, even though it seems that Trenton’s father Josh Duckett had passed a lie detector test. Authorities are also searching a wooded area on a tip.

VIDEO

“Investigators are asking the public to help verify the whereabouts of the Duckett family the day before Trenton vanished,” Local 6′s Mike DeForest said.

“We have reports of where Trenton was,” Leesburg police Captain Steve Rockefeller said. “We want to get confirmation of where Trenton was. That is the need for the reconstruction.”

The boy’s father, Josh Duckett, was videotaped standing behind police at Tuesday’s news conference.

“I’ve given my whole story,” Duckett said. “I’ve cooperated. Everything that I’ve been doing, and so far they are satisfied with what they found.”

Duckett said he performed well on a lie detector test about the case.

Trenton Duckett Still Missing, Police state missing Trenton likely Alive

The search continues for the missing 2 year old Leesburg, FL boy Trenton Duckett. Trenton DuckettAuthorities in the first time in the case mentioned that “Trenton Duckett is alive and close by.”

Police Capt. Steve Rockefeller wouldn’t say Friday why investigators are encouraged about the fate of the 2-year-old boy, who was reported taken from his bedroom through a window. Despite numerous searches, no body has been found.

“We have no evidence to indicate that he is dead,” Rockefeller said. “This [investigation] is not fruitless.”

Rockefeller said investigators are also looking at all possible answers for the toddler’s abduction — including his parents’ rocky past. Police records released Friday show that the months leading up to Trenton’s disappearance were filled with allegations of abuse and threats of violence.

Nobody is above suspicion … VIDEO

The search goes on with the efforts of The project Adam team. The questions remain is whether the parents extremely rocky past and history of alleged abuse allegations and mis-treatment have anything to do with the Trenton’s disappearance?

The couple lived in Bushnell and moved to Leesburg last year. Bushnell officers said they responded last year to several of the couple’s arguments and an allegation of Melinda Duckett neglecting her son.

The accusation was determined to be unfounded, a report said.

Last year, police took Melinda Duckett into custody under the state’s Baker Act, which allows authorities to hold people for a mental evaluation if they show evidence of being a danger to themselves or others.

The specifics of the incident that prompted her being held were unclear. Bushnell police would not release their report Friday. They said it was a medical record not subject to the state’s public-records laws.

(Orlando Sentinel)

Police are working with state and federal agents from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the FBI.

On Wednesday, law-enforcement officers were questioning neighbors in the Windemere Villas apartment complex where Trenton lives and interviewing nearby registered sex offenders.

Andrew Vita, a member of Team Adam, a unit of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, said his organization was helping to circulate fliers and talking with Trenton’s relatives and parents, Joshua and Melinda Duckett, both 21.

“It’s a very intense investigative effort,” Vita said. “They [officers] are working all night long. Some people have been here for several days.”

Shannon Nicole Paulk, Teresa Melissa Dean and Heaven Ross … Is there a serial Killer Responsible for all three?

Could the Police be dealing with an “Anniversary Killer”?

Could it be possible that these three cases are connected? Could they have been committed by the same person? Is there a serial killer he takes 11 year old girls from trailer parks in the August 15–19 time period, exactly two years apart? Investigators into each of the three disappearance are starting to question whether there is a pattern and if the three cases are connected. It appears that the same man may have committed the three crimes.

Trailor Park Victims 3

The Shannon Paulk Task Force, formed shortly after Shannon disappeared, announced Tuesday that investigators believe Shannon’s case is related to Teresa’s disappearance and that of Heaven Lashae Ross of Northport, Ala. A statement cited “striking” similarities among the three cases.

  • All three girls were 11 years old.
  • All three were abducted from trailer parks where they lived.
  • All three girls disappeared two years apart – but within days of each other in August.
  • In all three cases, construction, such as commercial construction, roadwork or bridge building, was being done nearby.

(Macon.com)

Shannon Paulk, Teresa Dean and Heaven Ross’ cases all have a striking similarity. Shannon Paulk disappeared from her Candlestick Trailer Park in Prattville, Alabama on August 16, 2001. Shannon’s remains were found on October 6, 2001 seventeen miles from her home in the Autauga County Wild Life Management Area.

Teresa Dean and Heaven Ross both disappeared from their trailer parks in mid-August, exactly two years before and after Shannon’s disappearance. Could the three cases have been done by the same individual. Is it possible that it is just a bizarre coincidence that all three girls taken from trailer parks, exactly two years apart? Seems very unlikely. Many of the characteristics of the three disappearance seems similar. Although at this point only Shannon’s body has been recovered.

A composite sketch was done of an individual who was last seen talking to Shannon Nicole Paulk. 3 girls colorcompositeThis individual; is wanted for questioning.

Northport abduction could be serial crime (Disappearance of Heaven LaShae Ross)

Heaven LaShae Ross received a jolt Wednesday when investigators said they were looking into a possible link between her disappearance and those of two other girls under similar circumstances.

“Since Teresa and Heaven are still missing, a definite connection cannot be made,” said a statement released Tuesday by investigators, “but the similarities are striking.”

This has prompted the task force to release two drawings of a man witnesses said was seen with Shannon about 2:30 p.m. on the day she vanished.

The task force describes him as follows:

“In this case the task force really wants to bring attention to the mole under his eye which was described as having two hairs growing out of it toward his nose.

Eleven-year old Teresa Melissa Dean was last seen around eight o’clock in the evening near her home. She has not been seen or heard from since. Missing Twiggs girl may be victim of serial abductor (Teresa Melissa Dean)

An 11-year-old Twiggs County girl who disappeared seven years ago might have been the victim of a serial abductor.

Twiggs County Sheriff Darren Mitchum is headed to Prattville, Ala., today to discuss the disappearance of Teresa Melissa Dean seven years ago with authorities investigating disappearances of two Alabama girls.

“If I can stay in office long enough, we’re going to solve this case. That’s my goal,” said Mitchum, who has Teresa’s picture and a composite sketch of a suspect hanging in the lobby of his office.

Mitchum and his colleagues plan to meet with representatives of the “America’s Most Wanted” television program.

“What we’re trying to do is get America’s Most Wanted to do a story on it,” Mitchum said. “We’re going to take this opportunity to get exposure for our case.”

Alabama authorities believe the same person could be responsible for all three cases.

(Macon.com)

Were there other victims? Police explore possibility of serial abductions

Prattville Police Sgt. Robert Furlong, the lead investigator on the Paulk case, declined to go into details of the investigation, but said the similar circumstances in each case led detectives to take a closer look at the Dean and Ross disappearances.

(Montgomery Advisor)

America’s Most Wanted will be doing a TV show Saturday, September 2, 2006 spotlighting this case.

At around 2:30 p.m. on August 15, 1999, 11 year-old Teresa left her trailer in Twiggs County, Ga. to go to a neighbor’s trailer to play with some puppies.  The neighbor told Teresa that if she could catch one of the puppies, she could take it home. Police say that Teresa told the neighbor was she going home to get her brother to help her bring a puppy home.

Teresa never made it home. She also doesn’t have a brother.

  • Police say a neighbor, who lived a few doors down from Heaven’s home, saw her walk by. And another neighbor, close to the bus stop, says she didn’t see the child at all.

Noreen Gosch , the Mother receives pictures of her son, Johnny Gosch, 24 years after he was Abducted

The following is an example of when the tragic and bizarre becomes beyond cruel and unusual. Johnny Gosch 1You may not remember the name Johhny Gosch; however, he was one of the very first missing children to ever be placed on a milk carton in the 1980’s.

Johnny’s disappearance triggered nationwide fears of child abductions. He was one of the first faces of missing or abducted children to appear on milk cartons across the country.

Two photographs were left at the door of  Noreen Gosch of her son, Johnny Gosch, who was abducted and has been missing for 24 years. The pictures were of Johnny Grosh, 12, and two other boys who were gaged and had their hands bound.

Johnny Gosch 2

(NBC5, WMAQ Chicago)

The old photos appear to show 12-year-old Johnny Gosch with his mouth gagged and his hands and feet tied. The boy is wearing the same sweatpants Johnny was wearing when he disappeared while delivering newspapers on the morning of Sept. 5, 1982, his mother said.

For someone to abduct a 12 year old boy is sick. For someone to send a picture of the missing abducted boy some 24 years later to the boy’s mother boards on cruel and twisted vile insanity.

Gosch said investigators confirmed the photos were authentic and likely taken within “hours or days” of the abduction. She said they were checking for fingerprints that could lead them to the source and possibly a breakthrough in a case that has long baffled authorities. The other boys in the photo were unidentified.

Meanwhile, others connected to the case have reported receiving the photographs through anonymous deliveries and the Internet.

Noreen Gosch had believed that her son was taken by child pornographers.

Gosch believes her son was taken by child pornographers. She told authorities he briefly contacted her in 1997 but feared for his life and declined to give details about where he was. She believes his abductors got him involved in crimes, which is why he is hiding his identity.

State crime lab to examine possible Gosch photos

Police said today that state crime experts were examining photographs to determine if they are of a newspaper delivery boy who disappeared 24 years ago.

Lt. Jeff Miller, a spokesman for the West Des Moines Police Department, said the photos were given to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation’s computer crime task force.
