Trenton Duckett Still Missing, Police state missing Trenton likely Alive

The search continues for the missing 2 year old Leesburg, FL boy Trenton Duckett. Trenton DuckettAuthorities in the first time in the case mentioned that “Trenton Duckett is alive and close by.”

Police Capt. Steve Rockefeller wouldn’t say Friday why investigators are encouraged about the fate of the 2-year-old boy, who was reported taken from his bedroom through a window. Despite numerous searches, no body has been found.

“We have no evidence to indicate that he is dead,” Rockefeller said. “This [investigation] is not fruitless.”

Rockefeller said investigators are also looking at all possible answers for the toddler’s abduction — including his parents’ rocky past. Police records released Friday show that the months leading up to Trenton’s disappearance were filled with allegations of abuse and threats of violence.

The search goes on with the efforts of The project Adam team. The questions remain is whether the parents extremely rocky past and history of alleged abuse allegations and mis-treatment have anything to do with the Trenton’s disappearance?

The couple lived in Bushnell and moved to Leesburg last year. Bushnell officers said they responded last year to several of the couple’s arguments and an allegation of Melinda Duckett neglecting her son.

The accusation was determined to be unfounded, a report said.

Last year, police took Melinda Duckett into custody under the state’s Baker Act, which allows authorities to hold people for a mental evaluation if they show evidence of being a danger to themselves or others.

The specifics of the incident that prompted her being held were unclear. Bushnell police would not release their report Friday. They said it was a medical record not subject to the state’s public-records laws.

Police are working with state and federal agents from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the FBI.

On Wednesday, law-enforcement officers were questioning neighbors in the Windemere Villas apartment complex where Trenton lives and interviewing nearby registered sex offenders.

Andrew Vita, a member of Team Adam, a unit of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, said his organization was helping to circulate fliers and talking with Trenton’s relatives and parents, Joshua and Melinda Duckett, both 21.

“It’s a very intense investigative effort,” Vita said. “They [officers] are working all night long. Some people have been here for several days.”

  1. I just listened to the Nancy Grace interview with both parents of this precious little boy who is caught in the middleof two parents(kids)…..The Mother is guilty as sin……No adoring, loving Mom would not cooperate with police and be so EVASIVE with Nancy Grace not telling anyone and everyone excactly where she went that day with Trenton. She is hiding the answer to where Trenton is or what happend to him. She had to hand him to someone through the screen unless that was cut just to make it “look” like an abduction. She is not telling the truth. The local police or FBI need to get probable cause to get her into an interrogation room and question her until she cracks…. breaks down and comes clean……The whole thing make me sick! This poor little boy.

  2. I just heard that Melinda Duckett’s grandparents say that Nancy Grace is partly to blame for their granddaughter’s suicide. Nancy Grace didn’t push Melinda Duckett over the edge. Melinda Duckett backed herself into a corner with her lies, deceit and hatred towards her soon to be ex-husband. At this point I don’t know whether Melinda’s whole “abduction” story has to do with Melinda accidentally flying off the handle and killing Trenton or if Melinda put Trenton with someone to make sure her husband wouldn’t be able to have contact with his son, is still yet to be seen. When the public in general didn’t buy her whole “bullsh** story and her husband, who has cooperated with the police and FBI, started looking like the good guy, Melinda snapped because there was no way to take back all the crap talk she’d been shoveling out and redeem herself. Melinda was living off of hatred she felt towards her husband of which alot of it she’d brought on herself. She must have been very surprised to realize her brilliant plan of child abduction had backfired because the police, in general, weren’t as stupid and naive as she’d banked on. I watched the Nancy Grace show, and actually Nancy Grace, though sticking to her guns in questioning Melinda about the polygraph and her whereabouts on August 27, never once accused Melinda of anything. Nancy simply pointed out why the mother of a missing child wouldn’t say whether or not she’d taken a polygraph (her husband had no problem stating he’d taken one willingly with no attorneys present) or why the mother wouldn’t say what stores she’d been to so the stores could check their survellance cameras to see if she was being stalked. It’s quite obvious that Melinda knew exactly where Trenton is because she is the one that made him “disappear.” It is sad that a 21 year old woman took her own life, even sadder if Trenton is found alive because he now has no mother even though mother obviously had some deep mental issues. If Trenton is found dead, then mother took the easy way out. I do feel a sense of pity towards Melinda Duckett but not because of Nancy Grace. Melinda Duckett did it to herself. I guess we were all supposed to play along with Melinda and pretend that she had nothing to do with the disappearance of little Trenton?

SM: I wouldn’t be so sure about that. No one knows the truth yet. I actually like Nancy Grace’s show and like her approach. However, I think she actually did go too far. She has no idea who is innicent or guilty yet she went after a parent of a missing child who later winds up killing herself. Of course what transpired on the NG show most likely was the straw that caused it.

That being said … of course people have personal accountability.

There are a couple things wrong with what Nancy Grace did.
    1. She has recently called out others for making money with regarding to MP when she does it all the time. She took an opportunity during an interview and went way too far with it. She has to know as a media anchor when to stop.
    2. Because she used attack journalism … she is lucky if anyone is going to want to do her show. Hard questions are one thing, but when someone does not have the common sense to shut up and move on that is quite something different.

    3. This is the worst part of it all. Melinda Duckett is now dead. The authorities will never be able to ask her another question. EVER. If she had something to do with her son’s disappearance, we will never hear it from her.

If the police or authorities knew she was not mentally stable or fragile, they could have used it during the investigation. Could she have broke and spilled what she knew at some point? We will never know now.

We are the first to want answers … however, we know we are not the investigative authorites. Cable TV shows should know that as well.

The real story in all of this is WHERE IS TRENTON DUCKETT?

Any chance of ever asking Melinda is now gone forever.

  3. I TOO WATCHED THE NANCY GRACE SHOW AND I BELIEVE THAT SHE JUST SAID WHAT WE ALL WANTED TO SAY AND COULDN’T. THE PASSION THAT SHE HAD IN HER VOICE WHEN ASKING MELINDA THE QUESTIONS ABOUT THE POLYGRAPH TEST AND THE STORES THAT SHE HAD BEEN IN WAS THE VOICE OF THAT 2 YEAR OLD LITTLE BOY THAT DIDN’T HAVE ONE. IF MY CHILD WERE MISSING I WOULD USE EVERY RESOURCE AVAILABLE IN ORDER TO FIND THEM. THE FBI AND THE LOCAL AUTHORITIES ARE ON THE SAME TEAM AND THE IDEA OF ONLY WORKING WITH ONE AGENCY IS LUDICROUS. AND AS FAR AS HER SUCIDE IS CONCERNED, IF HER SO CALLED ROCKY PAST WITH HER HUSBAND DIDN’T CAUSE HER TO END HER LIFE THEN HOW COULD A TV PERSONALITY CAUSE HER TO DO THAT. ALL SHE HAD TO DO IS HANG UP THE PHONE. SOMETIMES THE TRUTH CAN JUST BE TOO HARD TO HANDLE. AND HOW COULD A MOTHER END HER LIFE KNOWING THAT HER CHILD COULD POSSIBLE BE ALIVE AND IS OUT THERE JUST WAITING ON HER TO COME AND RESCUE HIM. MY HEART TRULY GOES OUT TO THE FAMILIES OF THIS TRAGIC STORY AND I PRAY FOR THE SAFE RETURN OF LITTLE TRENTON.

  4. As far As I am concerned, Nancy Grace did everything right. She did nothing wrong. Let’s all just thank God for her. Here is a woman with such compassion for missing children, and adults. It breaks my heart that people can’t see the good in her. Nancy… keep up the good work. Than you for putting people in their place with great honesty and humanity…

  5. I LIVE IN THE SAME COUNTY WHICH ALL OF THIS HAS BEEN HAPPEING AND FOLLOWING VERY CLOSE WITH THE CASE OF TRENTON. SUCH A BEAUTIFUL LITTLE BOY. I HAVE HEARD RUMORS OF THE MOTHER LIKING TO PARTY A LOT AND BEING A LITTLE ON THE UNSTABLE SIDE. HAD HEARD FROM SOMEONE THAT ONE OF MELINDA’S FRIENDS WAS IN A BAR FRIDAY NIGHT WATCHING THE NEWS OF MELINA’S SUICIDE AND STATED, TRENTON IS DEAD. HAVE NO IDEA WHO THIS PERSON IS, BUT IT WAS A LOCAL BAR IN OUR COUNTY. THE IS NO DOUBT IN MY MIND WHY MELINDA KILLED HERSELF, SHE FINALLY REGRETTED WHAT SHE HAD DONE TO HER SON AND TOOK THE CHICKEN WAY OUT. BETTER THEN SPENDING TIME IN JAIL IN HER MIND. IT SAD SHE DIDN’T LEAVE A NOTE LETTING THE POLICE KNOW WHAT SHE HAD DONE WITH TRENTON, WHAT A VERY SELFISH GIRL. MY PRAYERS ARE WITH THE LITTLE ONE THT DESERVED LIFE AND LOVE, IT JUST SADDENS MY HEART. THERE ARE SO MANY PARENTS THAT CAN’T HAVE CHILDREN AND WOULD HAVE GIVEN ANYTHING TO LOVE THAT CHILD. NANCY DID NOT PUT THIS GIRL OVER THE EDGE, SHE DID IT HERSELF.

  6. DELAND, Fla. — Eyewitness News has learned a Florida Highway Patrol lieutenant is under investigation after he called off a chase that may have been related to the Amber Alert for missing toddler Trenton Duckett.

One trooper thought a child in the car matched Duckett’s description.

In the FHP incident report, the trooper involved in the pursuit said he had every reason to want to pull the car over and no reason to let him go.

The report says the driver fled after being pulled over. The trooper writes that he saw the driver force a small child to the floorboards as he pulled away. The trooper notes that he tan car, with no plates, matched the description of a car wanted in connection with a murder in Saint Johns County.

What’s more, the trooper believes the child fit the description of 2-year-old Trenton Duckett, a child recently abducted in Lake County. There is an Amber Alert out for Duckett and a be-on-the-lookout (BOLO) alert for the car.

“If the BOLOo was put out for a crime that was a forcible felony, we would be able to continue our pursuit by our policy,” said Trooper Kim Miller, Florida Highway Patrol.

Murder and kidnapping are considered forcible felonies and justify pursuit according to FHP policy, but the trooper said his supervisor told him to let the car go.

“We are looking to see if the trooper should have been able to continue the pursuit by our policy,” Miller said.

In the report, the trooper makes his case to stay on the car, but his supervisor, Lt. Kevin Vaughn, is quoted as saying, “It is not against the law to have kids in the car.”

The trooper broke off pursuit and the car, suspect and child were gone.

As a result, Lt. Vaughn is under investigation and FHP hopes the 2-year-old’s possible kidnapper was not let go for no reason.

“We don’t know if we can go into the what-ifs. For a trooper, that’s definitely weighing on their mind,” Miller said.

The investigation into the decision not to pursue the suspect car was still ongoing Friday
