UPDATE II: Mark Sterling Lewis prior arrests

Investigators believe that due to Lewis’ failure to cooperate, valuable time was wasted in locating the missing girl, deputies said.

Lewis previously was arrested by the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office in September 1995 and booked with auto theft, felony theft and aggravated kidnapping, deputies said.

Lewis was charged with those crimes after he allegedly kidnapped a woman in Livingston Parish by placing a screwdriver to her throat and forcing her to drive to an unknown location, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

During the drive, the victim escaped by getting out of the vehicle, leaving Lewis to steal her vehicle along with her purse and other personal items, according to reports at the time.

Lewis was convicted and sentenced to seven years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with five years suspended, thus serving two years of prison time for the offenses. (The Advocate)

ST. AMANT – Livingston Parish sheriff’s investigators searching for a 13-year-old French Settlement girl missing since Thursday afternoon arrived at a rural location in Ascension Parish Saturday evening to examine a dead body.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office located the body Saturday afternoon alongside New River Road about 100 yards off La. 936 in St. Amant, authorities said.

The Ascension Sheriff’s Office notified Livingston Parish investigators they had located the body, the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office reported Saturday afternoon. (The Advocate)

Wiley said that two volunteer in the search for Aydell found a disturbed area of leaves and growth near a small bayou off New River Road. Upon closer inspection, they discovered a body lying there. (Ascension Citizen)

UPDATE IV: The body found is now being ID’d as a young white girl.

Is it possible that the suspect they have arrested, Mark Sterling Lewis, gave up the location of Kaitlin as a way of avoiding the “death penalty”.

UPDATE V: Confirmation that the body is that of Kaitlin Aydell

We do have confirmation that the body found by volunteers is that of 13 year old Kaitlin Aydell. We just spoke with Tim Miller of Texas Equusearch and was notified of the sad news.

Kaitlin, rest in peace and God Bless.

UPDATE VI: French Settlement shocked by the death of 13-year-old

In this sleepy bayou village of 900, the missing-person posters have been ripped from storefront windows; the sounds of four-wheelers and other search vehicles were stilled.

About 10 miles away, quiet also permeated the area near New River Bayou in Ascension Parish where Kaitlin’s body was discovered, partially submerged.

Handpicked flowers, bouquets of roses and a pink teddy bear were tied with yellow police tape to a tree near the bayou. (The Advocate)

UPDATE V: Autopsy: French Settlement teen strangled

The 13-year-old girl found dead last week was strangled, the Livingston Parish Sheriffs Office says.
Jason Ard, chief of operations for the sheriff’s office, would not comment further on the autopsy report on Kaitlin M. Aydell. The parish coroner, Dr. Ron Coe, would say only that he had ruled the death a homicide.

Missing Boat “Lady of Grace” Found in Nantucket Sound, All Four Crew Members are Still Missing

The Coast Guard discovered the missing fishing boat, The 75-foot Lady of Grace, submerged in 36 feet of water in Nantucket Sound. All four crew members, Antonio Barroqueiro, Rogerio Vendura, Mario Farinha, and Joao Silva, are still missing. Due to the frigid water temperatures, it is highly unlikely that there will be any survivors. It was reported from Coast Guard aircraft that debris was floating in the water about 2 miles from the boats last known location.

Coast Guard rescuers said it appeared unlikely the crew would be found alive in the frigid waters, but they would continue the search. The vessel’s lone life raft was found attached to the boat.

The 75-foot Lady of Grace was last heard from Friday night and was supposed to return to New Bedford Harbor early Saturday.

The boat’s last known position was 12 miles south of Hyannis, which is 60 miles southeast of Boston. At the time the boat went missing, the wind was blowing at about 30 to 35 mph with 8 to 10 foot waves.

It appears that there have been previous issues with this fishing vessel in the recent past.

Earlier this month, the Coast Guard had to tow the Lady of Grace after the crew radioed for help, saying they were without power and drifting. (AP)

Rescuers finds missing fishing boat submerged, lifeboat attached

The Lady of Grace’s one life raft was found still in its case and attached to the boat.

The 75-foot dragger was last heard from Friday night. It was supposed to return to New Bedford Harbor at 5 a.m. Saturday after the Coast Guard warned of rough weather, cutting a planned eight-day trip in half.

The crew from another fishing vessel communicated with Lady of Grace by e-mail until 10 p.m. Friday, then contacted the Coast Guard when the other boat failed to reply to the last e-mail.

Coast Guard officials concentrated their search on the area where the boat’s transponder was last heard, about 11 miles north of Nantucket. (WHDH)

UPDATE I: 1 Body Found in Sunken Boat; Search Ends

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) — Divers found the body of a crewman on a sunken fishing boat in Nantucket Sound on Wednesday, and the search for two more men ended because debris in the wreck makes more dives too hazardous.

State police said the divers searched the entire vessel Wednesday except the engine room, which was blocked by debris. The unidentified body was found in a bunk room.

62 Year Old Woman Vanishes Aboard the QE2 … Overboard?

Its happened again, this time aboard Cunnard’s QU2. A 62 year old woman has been reported missing and presumed to have gone overboard.

It was believed the 62-year-old went overboard on Hogmanay during the £2000-a-head cruise.

Officers boarded the luxury liner, which carries 1900 passengers and more than 1000 crew, when it returned to its home port of Southampton yesterday.

The alarm had been raised on Sunday when the woman was reported missing by her husband as the ship returned from the island of Madeira in the Atlantic. The captain of the QE2 did turn the ship around to retrace the route as well as a sea & air rescue was conducted. All to no avail.

A search was immediately launched by the crew, but no sign of the woman was found. (The Daily Record)

Mystery surrounds QE2′s missing woman

The woman, a German national, was reported missing from the 67,000-tonne Cunard liner by her husband on Sunday.

The ship was in Portuguese waters between Madeira and its home port of Southampton at the time.

Erica Bradley has been missing since early November of 2006 in Allendale, SC. Now Tim Miller and Texas EquuSearch have joined he search for the missing 17 year old Bradley.

The search attempts up to this point have turned up pieces of evidence here and there, but none of them led to Erica. Now, as time continues to pass and the trail gets colder by the day, the family says they’re more determined than ever to get answers.

Erica Bradley’s mother Jackie and the rest of the family will leave no stone unturned until they find her.

“I want to see her walk through those doors,” Jackie Bradley told News 12. “It’s been hard not knowing where she’s at.”

The trail has been a hard and long one for the entire family. Erica disappeared November 6 after leaving her job at a local Hardees. Since then, law enforcement turned up clothes, socks and shoes, pieces of hair extensions, and other things in the woods. But so far, those leads haven’t been enough. (WRDW)

With the leads not providing enough clues as to Erica Bradley’s whereabouts, enter Tim Miller and Texas Equusearch volunteers to the help.

“We want to search every square inch…and I truly don’t feel she’s very far away from us,” said Equusearch director Tim Miller.

Miller and his group are combing a few hundred square miles on foot, four wheelers, and with the help of a well-trained sense of smell. Miller says the mild landscape, relatively flat and dry, ill help the mission.

“This family needs closure. This town does,” Miller said. “It’s a terrible loss.”
