Heather Greig Missing Missing in Portland, OR … Possible Runaway

Heather Greig, 17-year-old Cleveland High School student and star athlete is missing.

Heather Greig, a star athlete at Cleveland, who lives with her parents on S.E. 68th Avenue, disappeared after going to her first-period class and hasn’t been seen since, as far as her family knows. (The Bee)

Heather Grieg Myspace profile

Police believe that Heather Greig is a “runaway” and in no immediate danger. However, how many times have we heard that misdiagnosis in a missing persons case? According to her parents, Heather has never run away before and gave no indications.

That’s what makes it so frustrating for Heather’s family, who say she has no history of running away, gave no indication that she was unhappy or wanted to run away, and has no money, cell phone, or car.

“We haven’t heard a word from her,” said her mother, Shannon Greig. “We filed the missing person’s report that first night. … I just want her picture out there. Somebody’s got to have seen her.”

Greig said it’s tough to know for sure, but her daughter might have taken a bag with some clothes and her travel hairdryer with her when she left. But she has no idea where her daughter would go. They’ve posted fliers around the neighborhood, but can’t afford to offer any reward money.

If anyone has information, they are asked to call Heather’s family at 503/775-5272 or 503/774-1450, or e-mail: findheatherg@aol.com. Her parents have become frustrated with th lack of action from the police, as the case is deemed a runaway. If anyone has seen Heather, please let her family and authorities know.

Amber Alert Cancelled For Missing Braddock Toddler

This afternoon, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner was called to Rankin where a body was found matching the description of the missing toddler.

Officials have not confirmed the identity of the body.

Crews had been searching the area for the missing toddler, marking abandoned houses and trash cans as they searched.

KDKA’s Ross Guidotti reports the body was found off of Fleet Street in a wooded area.

Right now, police have not determined if the death was a homicide.

Meanwhile, Allegheny County Police Lt. Bob Downey confirmed that detective teams at county police were visiting and interviewing Megan’s law violators in Braddock and North Braddock.

Saturday, authorities questioned Page’s father, cousin and grandmother’s boyfriend, the only three adult males in the house.

Page’s father has been brought in for a second round of questioning and another polygraph test. (KDKA)

UPDATE II: Body of Missing Pennsylvania Toddler Discovered at Abandoned Playground

An autopsy will be conducted Monday.

Rankin Mayor Nicholas Glova said earlier Sunday that investigators had found the body of a girl about four blocks from where Nyia Page lived. He said authorities were doing everything possible to find out what happened over the past 24 hours.

The body of Page, who was reported missing Saturday, was found in an abandoned playground.

Police gave no immediate details of the discovery. No immediate arrests had been made.

Another child alerted other family members that Page was not in her bed at around 7:30 a.m. Saturday. They searched for her in vain before calling police, according to authorities. (Fox News)

Nyia was found about 3:30 p.m. Sunday along the southeastern slope of the Hawkins Village public housing project. She was last seen alive by several family members about 12:30 a.m. Saturday. Family members reported her missing about seven hours later, said county police Superintendent Charles Moffatt. (Pittsburgh Live)

UPDATE IV: Missing Child’s Father Jailed On Unrelated Charges

The familiar pattern of a person being arrested on an unrelated charge. Could this just be a way of holding a potential suspect as we have seen so many other times in past missing person and homicide cases?

(KDKA) PITTSBURGH There’s still no arrest in connection with the little girl from Braddock whose frozen body was found Sunday.

However, now her father has been jailed on corruption charges involving another child and the Medical Examiner has released information on how Nyia Page died.

Bodies of Missing Rachel Smith and Rachel Crites Found in Car (Suicide – Carbon Monoxide Poisoning)

Two bodies have been found in Virgina in the car belonging to one of the missing teens from Maryland. It appears the sad end has come to the search foe 16 year old Rachel Smith and 18 year old Rachel Crites. What a sad ending and it would appear that they went through on their promise that they had previously posted in their diary:

“Wherever I end up laying, whether buried or cremated, I want to stay with my true love, buried next to her. This is my choice. I’m sorry.”

A sad ending to two girls lives that died way too soon in life.

Loudoun County Sheriff’s spokesman Kraig Troxell says the bodies were found in a dark blue Subaru Outback about 2:15 p-m off Route 9 near the West Virginia border.

Troxell says the bodies haven’t been identified.

The cause of death remains under investigation. Sixteen-year-old Rachel Smith, of Potomac, and 18-year-old Rachel Crites, of Gaithersburg, have been missing since January 19th, when they told their parents they would be attending a movie in Washington.

Police have confirmed that the car in which the bodies were found belonged to Crites. (WTKR)

UPDATE I: Bodies of Missing Teens Found in Car Confirmed to be Rachel Smith & Rachel Crites

He says authorities later found the bodies of two females in the car’s front seats.

Loudoun County investigators confirmed early Saturday that the victims were 16-year-old Rachel Smith, of Potomac, and 18-year-old Rachel Crites, of Gaithersburg.

Authorities say there were no signs of trauma on the bodies, and the cause of death is not yet known. (ABC7)

Grim Ending Stirs Quest For Answers Md. Teens Found Dead Eluded Searchers; Motivations Unclear

It had been an anxious time for their parents, their neighbors, their friends at Wootton High School — even for people who had never met them and who, through e-mails and Web sites, had worried and prayed and called for them to come home.

“These people just wanted desperately to help,” said Cathy Hodin, who organized search and assistance efforts from her North Potomac home. (Washington Post)

UPDATE II: Police Await Missing Teens’ Autopsy Reports

More will be known about the deaths of two Montgomery County teenagers who went missing two weeks ago after autopsies are completed Monday.

Investigators confirmed early Saturday that 16-year-old Rachel Smith, of Potomac, and 18-year-old Rachel Crites, of Gaithersburg, were found dead in a car Friday near the West Virginia border in Loudoun County, Va. Their bodies were taken to the medical examiner in Fairfax County, Va.

Authorities called the deaths apparent suicides. They said there were no signs of trauma to the bodies. (NBC 4)

UPDATE I: Maryland Teens Die Of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

A preliminary autopsy has determined that the two Maryland teens, Rachel Crites, 18, and Rachel Smith, 16, who were found dead inside their vehicle near the West Virginia border Friday afternoon, died of carbon monoxide poisoning. The Office of the Medical Examiner in Fairfax County made the ruling today, and although the case remains under active investigation, authorities are calling the case an apparent suicide. “The autopsy is not fully complete yet,” Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Kraig Troxell said. However, adhering to the Sheriff’s Office policy regarding suicide cases, Troxell declined further comment. (Leesburg Today)

UPDATE II: Missing Maryland Teens Deaths Ruled Suicides

What a sad conclusion but one that was not expected. The initial distubing note in the teens diary pointed at such a conclusion. However, an ending like this never needed to occur. There were so many other options … rather than suicide. So many indeed.

The Loudoun County sheriff’s office says they probably expired of carbon monoxide poisoning.

The Virginia medical examiner’s office in Fairfax County ruled yesterday on the cause of death based on a preliminary autopsy, Loudoun sheriff’s spokesman Kraig Troxell said. “Although the case remains an active investigation, it appears the two teens took their own lives,” Troxell said in a statement.

The sheriff’s office would not release further details, citing a policy not to disclose information in suicide cases.

Investigators believe that due to Lewis’ failure to cooperate, valuable time was wasted in locating the missing girl, deputies said.

Lewis previously was arrested by the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office in September 1995 and booked with auto theft, felony theft and aggravated kidnapping, deputies said.

Lewis was charged with those crimes after he allegedly kidnapped a woman in Livingston Parish by placing a screwdriver to her throat and forcing her to drive to an unknown location, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

During the drive, the victim escaped by getting out of the vehicle, leaving Lewis to steal her vehicle along with her purse and other personal items, according to reports at the time.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office located the body Saturday afternoon alongside New River Road about 100 yards off La. 936 in St. Amant, authorities said.

UPDATE IV: The body found is now being ID’d as a young white girl.

Is it possible that the suspect they have arrested, Mark Sterling Lewis, gave up the location of Kaitlin as a way of avoiding the “death penalty”.

We do have confirmation that the body found by volunteers is that of 13 year old Kaitlin Aydell. We just spoke with Tim Miller of Texas Equusearch and was notified of the sad news.

In this sleepy bayou village of 900, the missing-person posters have been ripped from storefront windows; the sounds of four-wheelers and other search vehicles were stilled.

About 10 miles away, quiet also permeated the area near New River Bayou in Ascension Parish where Kaitlin’s body was discovered, partially submerged.

Handpicked flowers, bouquets of roses and a pink teddy bear were tied with yellow police tape to a tree near the bayou. (The Advocate)

UPDATE V: Autopsy: French Settlement teen strangled

The 13-year-old girl found dead last week was strangled, the Livingston Parish Sheriffs Office says.
