Nina “Nenasha” Reiser has not been seen since September 3, 2006. The 31 year old mom, Nina Reiser, dropped her two children off at their father’s home in Oakland’s Montclair District before stopping by the Berkeley Bowl. She was never seen again.
Reiser’s tan 2001 Honda Odyssey minivan was found on Sept. 9 in the city’s Thornhill district with groceries inside. Neighbors first spotted the minivan parked on Sept. 5, the same day she failed to pick up her children from school, police said today.
Since Nina Reiser’s disappearance, her ex-husbands home and property has been searched. However, Hans Reiser is no longer cooperating with the police. He states he does not trust them.
A $15,000 reward has been issued.
The $15,000 reward is being offered by the Carole Sund/Carrington Memorial Reward Foundation, a nonprofit started on behalf of relatives of two of three slain Yosemite tourists.
Doren said today that the reward was “great news.” “I hope that it will make people come out and give police information that they’re looking for.” (San Francisco Chronicle)
Pictures of Nina Reiser, have you seen this woman?

The case of missing Marine Marine Lance Cpl. Lance Hering is all but considered a hoax. As the days went on in searching for the missing Marine who’s parents thought that maybe he had been the victim of foul play, it now appears that they are coming to the reality that their son faked his disappearance. It is being reported that Lance Hering purchased a bus ticket the day after he faked his disappearance.
A California-based Marine who vanished weeks before his scheduled return to duty bought a bus ticket in Denver the day after staging a bogus story about injuring himself during a hike in the Colorado mountains, authorities said Thursday.
Lance Cpl. Lance Hering, 21, bought the ticket using a different name at about 6 a.m. on Aug. 30 as search crews were gearing up to look for him, Boulder County sheriff’s Commander Phil West said.
West, who did not immediately return a call seeking more details, did not say where Hering might have gone or what alias he used. He said the video obtained with help from Greyhound Bus Line officials would not be released because it is considered evidence. (Mercury News)
Although the Marines position is innocent until proven guilty, it is becoming more and more obvious that Lance Cpl. Lance Hering planned and faked his disappearance. What a mess this has become for Hering. Lance Hering will now face the following charges if it is determined that this was a planned hoax to create the image that he disappeared.
- He is wanted on a felony charge of failure to comply with terms of a deferred sentence from a 2004 burglary charge.
- He is also wanted on a misdemeanor charge of conspiracy to commit false reporting to authorities.
- Lt. Esteban Vickers said if it turned out Hering was purposely absent he could be charged with desertion
Video of Hering found
With the aid of a little videotape, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office is on Lance Hering’s trail.
The Sheriff’s Office informed the media Thursday that, with the assistance of Greyhound Bus Line officials, Sheriff’s detectives obtained video footage of Hering purchasing a bus ticket at the downtown Denver bus depot shortly after 6 a.m. on Wednesday, August 30.
At the same time, Sheriff’s deputies were mounting a search effort for Hering in Eldorado Canyon, southwest of Boulder, based upon the claim of Mr. Steven Powers that Mr. Hering had been injured and incapacitated in a fall while hiking the previous evening. (Colorado Daily)

As police continue to search for Nina Reiser, missing for nearly two weeks, a candle light vigil was held Friday night.
Dozens of people attended an emotional candlelight vigil Friday evening for an Oakland mother of two who has been missing for nearly two weeks, as police said for the first time that her estranged husband has agreed to be interviewed by investigators.
Hans Reiser did not attend the candlelight vigil Friday at Montclair Park, which his wife frequents with their children. Authorities said they believe he is in the area because he attended a court hearing in Oakland earlier this week that dealt with the custody of their children, who have been placed with Child Protective Services.
(San Francisco Chronicle)
Even though Nina Reiser’s estranged husband Hans Resier has not been called a suspect, police have wanted to interview him. His attorney now says that Hans Reiser will make himself available for questioning.
Police have already searched Hans Reiser’s home and property ,see array of picture here.

Oakland Police Search Husband’s Home for Missing Wife
San Francisco (KCBS/AP) — Oakland police and a cadaver dog from the Alameda County sheriff’s office are searching the home of a software developer whose estranged wife hasn’t been seen for ten days.
Law-enforcement officials received a warrant to search the home of Hans Reiser in the city’s Montclair District.
Police issued a bulletin on Monday that said the woman is “at risk” and could be a victim of foul play. The children have been placed with Child Protective Services.
Hans Reiser has not been termed a suspect in her disappearance, and police have yet to speak to him.
Man’s home searched — wife is missing
A dog that can smell a cadaver searched a crawl space underneath the six-room home, located on a winding street off Skyline Boulevard in a steep wooded canyon, as well as the backyard and neighboring yards. Also on scene were agents with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency. The Reisers, who acquaintances said met through a Russian dating service, frequently traveled to Russia.
Looks like another terrible, contentious divorce that may have gone terribly wrong. The words back and forth and accusations during this divorce have been awful.
The Reisers married in 1999 and separated in May 2004. Nina Reiser filed for divorce three months later, citing irreconcilable differences and saying their children “hardly know their father” because he’d be out of the country on business for most of the year, records said.
Nina Reiser, who is trained as an obstetrician and gynecologist in Russia, was granted custody of the children. The couple’s divorce has not been finalized.
Nina Reiser accused her husband of subjecting their son, then 4, to violent video games and movies, causing him to have nightmares.
“This is an activity that Hans does almost obsessively to relax,” Nina Reiser wrote in her divorce filing. “Hans believes a child should ‘know the real world’ and sees nothing wrong with this behavior. He doesn’t seem to grasp that children are not little adults.”
Hans Reiser, in turn, denied that movies were to blame for their son’s nightmares and accused his wife of having an extramarital affair with Sean Sturgeon, a former friend of his, and that Sturgeon was a danger to the children. In an interview Wednesday, Sturgeon, 42, of Oakland denied having been a threat to the kids. Sturgeon said he became romantically involved with Nina Reiser only when her husband made it clear that the couple were through.
Nina Reiser’s boyfriend seems to be casting suspicion on Hans Reiser.
Nina Reiser’s boyfriend, Anthony Zografos, said he wasn’t surprised that police were investigating Hans Reiser. “(He) is really the only person I know who dislikes her. They really don’t get along.”
(SF Chronicle)
No clues in Oakland house search
Husband Hans Reiser, 43, was not at the house, where he grew up with his parents. His mother, Beverly Palmer, was home. Wiley said she was “very cooperative” and had left to stay with friends.
Wiley said police know where the husband is, but have not been able to contact him. He would not elaborate. Police broadcast radio alerts to officers to look out for two cars the husband has access to.
Reiser has hired an attorney, but has not been named as a suspect in his estranged wife’s disappearance.

Authorities are reporting that an unidentified 37 year old woman has been reported missing from a Carnival Cruise Line ship that was going on a 4 day cruise from Key West, FL to Mexico.
The Miami-based cruise line said relatives last saw the woman Saturday night, but did not report her missing until Monday, when the ship returned to Miami. FBI spokeswoman Judy Orihuela said, however, that she was not aware of any delay in reporting the disappearance.
(Washington Post)
What is going on during these cruises? This now makes 3 people that have gone missing in 5 months aboard a ship this year. Carnival Cruise is stating that they do not believe foul play was involved in the disappearance on the “Imagination”. The latest in a line on non-foul play missing persons.

Daniel DiPiero, fell off a cruise ship to the Bahamas after a night of heavy drinking with friends.

Elizabeth Galeana, 22, of Naples, Fla., apparently fell off a cruise ship in July and drowned

Cruise passenger missing; foul play not suspected
Her family last saw her in her room at 1:30 a.m. Sunday, when the ship was at sea.
“We do not suspect foul play,” FBI spokeswoman Judy Orihuela said.
Such incidents have drawn heightened attention since the unsolved disappearance last summer of George Smith IV from a Royal Caribbean International ship. Smith’s widely publicized case led to congressional hearings on how cruise lines handle the investigation and reporting of shipboard crimes.
In a statement, Carnival said the Ohio woman had been traveling with family members, who last saw her early in the morning on Sunday, several hours after the ship had sailed from Calica, Mexico, which is near Playa del Carmen.
Coast Guard spokesman Dana Warr said Monday that there were no planes or vessels launched to search for the woman because it had been nearly 36 hours since anyone had last seen her.
“We did notify the Mexican Rescue Coordination Center,” Warr said, and sent a radio message to mariners in the area where Imagination sailed Sunday.
The message asked fishing, cargo and other vessels to call the Coast Guard if they see anything unusual. The area is about 400 miles from Miami, Warr said.

Carnival: Passenger Missing From ‘Imagination’
According to CBS4′s Gary Nelson FBI officials do confirm the victim was on the ship at its last stop in Mexico. They are unsure how the woman dissappeared and don’t know if she jumped off or fell off the ship.
The Coast Guard was alerted about the man overboard report around 9:30 a.m. Monday when the Imagination tied up in Miami, O’Neil said.

I recently had the opportunity to attend the Texas EquuSearch fund raiser in Houston, TX (HOGS & HORSES). So much has gone on since I got back that I had failed to mention the great event and the tremendous people that took part. Hats off to Tim Miller and the TES gang for the tremendous and selfless job that they do.
The food, the people, the preparation and the giving were all a major part of the event. Tim Miller and the Texas EquuSearch volunteers give so much of themselves to the cause of “Missing Person’s.” Such an event like Hogs and Horses is just a nice opportunity to give back to TES and help fund raise for a great cause. For those interested they can donate to Texas EquuSearch, a non-profit with 5013c status HERE.
Texas EquuSearch came to the forefront of many people’s attention with their search efforts for Natalee Holloway in Aruba. However, they have done so many more searches prior to Natalee’s disappearance and after.
Texas EquuSearch is always ready for the call as Missing Persons knows no time frame. As the event took place at the very end of the day, a double AMBER ALERT was called in on two missing children. Luckily they were both found later unharmed. The very next day when Tim Miller was driving me to the airport a call came in to report a missing man last seen on his boat fishing. To keep up with the many cases is next to impossible. To make the effort to help the many families in need is an act of kindness and caring that is without limits.
Take a look at the event through the many pictures. Thank you Tim Miller and Texas EquuSearch for invited Scared Monkeys to Hogs and Horses. The people were salt of the earth … next time just remind me that I am supposed to have a speech ready.
What is a barbecue fund raiser without the hardworking crew preparing the brisket?
The Event, display tables
more to follow …
