12 year old Zina Linnik has been missing since the evening of July 4, 2007 when she was abducted from her Tacoma, WA home by an Asian looking man in an older gray van. A 42 year old sex offender is being held as a person of interest in the disappearance of Zinna Linnik.
The person of interest is a 42-year-old sex offender from Thailand. He’s currently being held for failing to register for an immigration violation and denies any involvement in Zina’s disappearance.
A search warrant reports investigators on Monday found a girl’s undergarments at his home, where he lives alone. He responded to that news by saying he was remodeling the home for his sister.
Investigators also seized a gray van to search for evidence, and the man admitted he had recently changed the license plate. (FOX News)
According to reports, a tip has lead investigators to the Tiger Mountain area where they are presently searching. It appears that the tip to search this area did not come from the man in custody.

19 year old, San Diego State University student Donna Jou has been missing since June 23, 2007. Donna Jou was last seen at a party held at a Los Angeles home rented by John Steven Burgess. Burgess is a registered sex offender.
Investigators believe Burgess, a registered sex offender, picked Jou up on a motorcycle earlier that day near her Rancho Santa Margarita home, Amormino said.
Jou met the man on the Web site Craigslist.org, Amormino said.
The day after Jou left for the party, her mother received a text message from Jou’s cell phone saying she was coming home, Amormino said.
Jou, however, never arrived. (San Francisco Chronicle)
Men Sought In Case Of Missing Teen
Police said they are looking for a man named Kyle who is also known as Skinny Puppy. One of Jou’s family members identified him as the man who rode away with Jou on June 23, according to authorities.
The other man they are looking for is John Steven Burgess, a registered sex offender who rented the house where Jou was last seen.
Family members are very worried about Jou’s well-being.
Sex Offender Sought for questioning in the disappearance of Donna Jou
On Friday, Sheriff’s investigators narrowed their search to John Steven Burgess, a convicted sex offender who calls himself SinJin Stevens. He drives around in a blue 1998 Ford Ranger pickup with the vanity plate SINJIN 1 – and a 1981 Yamaha motorcycle with license plate of 14X1224. He disappeared the same day Donna did – and authorities want to talk to him.
“He’s wanted for questioning in the disappearance of Donna Jou,” Sheriff’s spokesman Jim Amormino said.
Burgess, who was convicted of lewd and lascivious acts with a child and of sending harmful material to a minor using the Internet, never registered as a sex offender. A warrant has been issued for his arrest. (OC Register)

35 year old Rachel Holt is charge with raping a 13 year old boy 28 times. She was sentenced to a maximum of 25 years for the offense. Holt’s defense attorney complained that the sentence was too long as compared to other such cases. Maybe that’s part of the problem Mr. Defense attorney. If harsher sentences were handed down to teachers that committed these acts maybe it would act as a deterrent.
Holt’s attorney, John S. Malik, said the sentence was much longer than what teachers convicted in similar cases got. He reviewed 40 such cases and found the average was 18 months to two years.
In her brief comments to the court, Holt apologized “to everyone who suffered” as a result of her actions, including the victim and his family.
“I hope you can forgive me,” she said. “I know what I did was wrong.” (FOX News)
Teacher charged with raping student 28 times
(CNN) — A Delaware schoolteacher was charged Tuesday with 28 counts of raping a minor after she allegedly engaged in a weeklong sexual relationship with a 13-year-old student, police said.
Rachel L. Holt, a 34-year-old science teacher at Claymont Elementary School, faces additional charges that she allowed a 12-year-old friend of the victim to watch them have sex at her home, and that she gave both boys beer, New Castle County acting Police Chief Scott McLaren said.

Sex offenses my minors have increased drastically since a new study came out and they are typically more violent in natures.
The number of children under 18 accused of forcible rape, violent and nonviolent sex offenses rose from 24,100 in 1985 to 33,800 in 2004, the AP’s analysis found.

As the search goes on for Madeleine McCann, a witness is guilt ridden for not reporting what she had see. At the time the witness just did not realize the importance of what she had seen.
The vital witness, a close friend of Kate and Gerry McCann, was on her way to join Madeleine’s parents for dinner at the tapas bar when she saw a man with a blonde girl wrapped in a blanket.
The scene is eerie. On the night Maddie was snatched, she saw a man with a blonde girl wrapped in a blanket. She was wearing “distinguishable” pink pajamas, the woman has told police. At the time she thought it was odd, but only realized to her horror too late that it was probably Madeleine.
The man is white, 35 to 40 years old, of medium build and 5ft 10in. He has short hair and was wearing a dark jacket, light beige trousers and dark shoes.
The suspect in the Madeleine McCann disappearance, Robert Murat, did according to The Suns front page headlines, have kiddie porn on his computer. More HERE.
Ever since Madeline went missing, child pornography and paedophilia have been the tabloids’ main line of speculation.
No meaningful debate on “every parent’s worst nightmare” has been had in the past two weeks. There have been no calls for a paedophile amnesty, a period of grace in which anyone with child porn on their PC or in their locker can contact the authorities and explain how they came by it without fear of being branded and charged. The police could then trace the material to source and catch the evil profiteers.
What we have is finger-pointing and the news that Robert Murat “visited a string of depraved sites”. And this is Murat who lives “yards” from the holiday flat where Madeleine was snatched. Or Maddie, as the Sun insists on calling her.

Three year old British toddler, Madeleine McCann, disappeared from the resort that her family was staying in Praia da Luz, Portugal. Police have initially speculated that she was abducted by a pedophile. Time is of the essence and the clock is running to save this child from a sexual predator.
Police searching for a British toddler abducted during a family holiday in Portugal, fear she has been taken by a paedophile.

Pedophile seized British toddler, say Portuguese police
Police searching for a British toddler abducted while on holiday in Portugal fear she has been snatched by a pedophile.

Police believe that Madeleine is still alive and being held 2-3 miles from where she was abducted.
Madeleine was taken from the ground-floor apartment at the Mark Warner Ocean Club holiday village between 9:30pm and 10pm. Mrs McCann found that the outside shutter and window to Madeleine’s room had been opened and her daughter was missing shortly before 10pm local time.
Detectives searching for Madeleine have said they are convinced the child is still alive, that they know the “prime suspect” and that she is being held close to the resort. Police also said they had an artist’s impression of the suspect, which they were not releasing for fear of endangering Madeleine’s life. (The Scotsman)
There are numerous media reports of the police drawing heavy criticism for the manner in how this case was initially handled.
UPDATE I: Portuguese police under fire over missing UK girl, 3
But there were recriminations in the Portugese media over the police’s handling of the investigation in the first few hours after Madeleine’s disappearance.
The Portugese daily newspaper, Diario de Noticias, claimed that border police were not told that a child had been kidnapped until about midday on Friday, more than 12 hours after Madeleine was reported missing.
As a member of the EU, Portugal has no border controls with Spain, and motorists can cross from one country to the other unchecked.
The newspaper claimed that proper procedure would have been for Portugal’s Judicial Police – the local equivalent of CID – to have tipped off the country’s Borders and Aliens Service as soon as they knew that a child had been kidnapped.
Another paper, Correio de Manha, said the main border crossing from the Portuguese Algarve to Spain had no special controls in place whatsoever until Saturday afternoon. (NZ Herald)
UPDATE II: UK girl’s parents pray for her return
VIDEO of parents plea for safe return
Gerry and Kate McCann attended church in the Praia da Luz holiday village, where their daughter Madeleine disappeared on Thursday night from the family’s villa apartment.
“Please continue to pray for Madeleine,” Kate McCann said as she and her husband left the church in a statement to reporters waiting outside.
“From today’s service the thing we are going to take from this is strength and courage and hope, we continue to hope for the best possible outcome from this for us and for Madeleine,” her husband added.
UPDATE III: Balding man seen dragging blonde girl towards marina
Portuguese police investigating the abduction of Madeleine McCann are hunting for a balding man who is believed to have been seen dragging a girl to a marina in a town close to where she disappeared.
Detectives have not identified the man but have said that he is a suspect in the kidnapping of Madeleine from a holiday apartment on the Algarve on Thursday night
A police artist’s impression of a balding man who was seen with a blonde girl similar to Madeleine shows just the back of his head. He is described as being white, 5ft 11in and is understood to have been wearing white trousers. The man is believed to have been seen dragging the girl on a road leading to a marina in the town of Lagos, about 5 miles (8km) from Praia da Luz. Another witness is reported to have seen a girl struggling in the back of a car on a road leading from Praia da Luz. (Times on Line)

Finally there is justice for Julie Popovich. Adam Saleh was sentenced to 38 years to life for the attempted rape and murder of Julie Popovich. Julie Popovich has originally went missing on August 11, 2005.
“Today we received justice for Julie because a very dangerous man is being removed from society,” Popovich?s mother, Peggy White, said yesterday. “But I encourage young women to beware of the predators because they are out there waiting.”
The judge called Saleh a “shark” who might prey on other women if he is ever released. He sent Saleh, 20, to prison for the maximum sentence of 38 years to life and labeled him a sexual predator.
The jury of six men and six women found Saleh, an auto mechanic, guilty of murder, attempted rape, kidnapping and tampering with evidence for the 2005 slaying of Popovich, 20.
They acquitted him of aggravated murder charges, sparing him a possible prison sentence of life without parole. Jurors deliberated about seven hours over two days. (Columbus Dispatch)
Finally, a sex predator being treated and called for what they really are.
The judge called Saleh a “shark” who might prey on other women if he is ever released.
Hogan told Saleh: “I have come to the conclusion that you, sir, are a shark and I hope the Department of Rehabilitation and Correction never lets you out, because I am convinced that once you are out you will find a way to behave the same way again.”

Ex-Boy Scout official, Charles Bickerstaff, has been charged with 4 counts of criminal sexual abuse and 4 counts of criminal sexual assault. He is accused of sexually assaulting a 16 year old boy.
DIXON, Ill. (AP) — A former regional Boy Scout official has been charged with sexually assaulting a 16-year-old Scout at least four times since July.
Charles Bickerstaff, 56, of Dixon, was charged with four counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and four counts of criminal sexual assault, Lee County Correctional Officer Larry Schremp said Sunday. Bail was set at $2.5 million at a hearing Friday, and Bickerstaff remained in custody Sunday.
Bickerstaff retired last year as district executive for the Blackhawk Area Council, covering northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin, of the Boy Scouts of America. He recruited and trained volunteers and helped organize fundraisers.
The boy alerted authorities to the alleged abuse in late April, and investigators discovered journals in Bickerstaff’s house that detailed facts supporting the boy’s account, Lee County Detective Sgt. David Glessner said.

As much as the defence attorneys of Steven Avery wanted to sling mud on the wall to see what stuck, as much as they wanted to state that their client Avery was framed … THE VERDICT IS IN … GUILTY!!!
Steven Avery was convicted of first degree murder of 23 year old Teresa Halbach. Avery faces a mandatory life in prison term for his heinous actions. May he rot in hell as well.
The jury convicted Avery of first-degree intentional homicide and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was acquitted of mutilating a corpse. The panel deliberated over 3 days and heard a month of testimony.
Halbach disappeared Oct. 31, 2005, after going to the salvage yard in rural Manitowoc County to photograph a minivan that Avery’s sister had for sale through Auto Trader Magazine. Avery called that morning to request the photo, testimony showed. (Fox News)

It is paramount that we know the location where sex offenders live in the United States. All too often we let these predators slip through the crack and melt into society, only to offend again. It should be mandatory upon their sentencing and parole that they “must” register. This is and should never be an option. More attention should be given to sexual predators as its only a matter of time before they strike again and escalate the assaults.
Annual registration is required for 10 years for people convicted of kidnapping, luring a child, indecent assault, incest and promotion of a child for prostitution and six similar crimes.
Rape convictions and convictions for eight other types of crime, including those convicted of a sex crime while classified as a sex offender, are sexually violent predators who must report quarterly to state police for life.
Offenders must file a report with state police within 48 hours after changing their address, workplace or school they are attending, or after leaving prison.
Sexual offenders moving into the state or leaving the state must notify state police within 48 hours. (Daily Courier)
Why do we let sex offenders off the hook? Their movement from state to state falls under the radar when they fail to re-register in their new locality. It is obvious that not having an updates registry can lead to tragedy. We need to look no further than the heinous abduction, rape and murder of Jessica Lunsford. We need to know where these people are. It is not about their rights. This is about the rights of innocent and unsuspecting children. Innocent people’s rights should not be trampled by animals.
States don’t know where to find at least 60,000 sexual predators because the offenders fail to report their address to police, a national children’s advocate said.
There is no doubt that sex predators non-compliance in registering should be considered a felony. Non-registration should result in a trip back to prison, no questions asked. A sex predator’s non-registration should be considered intent to commit another act. It is actually shocking the number of states who just seem not to care about protecting children and adults against sex predators. What are these politicians thinking? Are they pandering to the sex predator vote?
Unlike Pennsylvania, where noncompliance is a felony, there are 25 states where it’s a misdemeanor. Allen notes there are about 26,500 offenders in Ohio, 24,000 in New York and 11,000 in New Jersey.
Pennsylvania notifies neighbors when a violent predator moves in or enrolls in a college or university after serving a prison sentence. Some states rely on offenders to do that, Allen said.
The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children estimate there are a staggering 603,000 registered sex offenders in the US. There is at least another 100,000 that are non-compliant. A new Special Analysis Unit has been created by NCMEC
to search databases, analyze information, and help identify and locate
these fugitives.
The question remains as to why so many states do not take sexual predators serious. Why have they not passed harsher penalties for those that have offended? Especially when they know there is such a high percentage of those that will repeat and in doing so trying to hide from their past actions by not registering. The following state laws are a disappointment, to say the least.
There are 25 states where noncompliance with one or more registration duties may be treated as only a misdemeanor: Alaska, California, Colorado, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
- In four states, when a sex offender moves from one state to another state, the responsibility to notify the new state is placed solely on the offender himself: Delaware, District of Columbia, Kansas, and Utah.
- In eight states, the law is ambiguous as to whether the state or the sex offender must notify a new state when the offender moves: California, Kentucky, Montana, New Jersey, North Dakota, South Carolina, South Dakota and Tennessee.
- In only seven states, when a sex offender fails to register, it is mandatory for parole to be revoked and the sex offender to be returned to prison: California, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, North Dakota, and West Virginia. (NCMEC)
In July of 2006, Congress passed the Adam Walsh Child Protection and
Safety Act. Politicians, stop dragging your heals. This is about protecting the publics safety and children. This is nothing to politicize. This is problem that needs to be addressed NOW! When dealing with sex predators, you are either with us or against us. There is no middle ground.
