The search continues in Narragansett Bay for the three missing students who were last seen leaving a party and getting into a row boat in the early morning hours. They have not been seen from since.
The missing students — Daniel Donahue, 20; Geoffrey Wilkes, 18; and Fandia Shloul, 21 — left a small off-campus party early Monday morning and launched a borrowed row boat in heavy fog.
Search and dive teams have continued their efforts to locate the missing students to no avail. The Coast Guard called off a rescue effort on Tuesday.
The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management is leading the search with help from the State Police and Narragansett authorities.

Coast Guard ends search for missing R.I. students
NARRAGANSETT, R.I. — The Coast Guard called off its search Tuesday evening for three University of Rhode Island students who disappeared after taking a row boat out on Narragansett Bay.
The halt came after two days of efforts by federal, state and local officials to find Daniel Donahue, 20, Geoffrey Wilkes, 18, and Fandia Shloul, 21.
Even though the searches have been called off, the three students have not been declared dead. However, if they remained in the water for any period of time the chances of survival are slim at best.
More than 175 people had participated in the rescue attempt by late Tuesday afternoon using seven boats and three helicopters. Martin called it the largest search conducted in Rhode Island waters in at least 15 years.

The Coast Guard is searching Narragansett Bay for three young adults, at least two of them college students on spring break. They are believed to have disappeared in a row boat according to reports. So far the search has turned up a rowboat, an oar, ball cap and sandal. No one as of yet has been found.
A security guard at the University of Rhode Island’s Narragansett Bay Campus heard people talking off shore about 2:30 a.m. but didn’t see anyone through the fog, URI President Robert Carothers said Monday.
About 30 minutes later, the guard heard what he thought was a moan from the same area and called the Coast Guard, Carothers said.
The search turned up a row boat just off the pier where the university docks its research vessel, Carothers said. Coast Guard officials said searchers also found an oar, ball cap and sandal.
“We’re all hoping that whoever is involved in this is on the shore,” Carothers said.
Because the university is closed for spring break, it’s difficult to track down students, he said.

Shelby County firefighters used a sonar device to search for James Crook, his son, David Crook and friend Hilbert Bradley. They have been missing since Tuesday when they went fishing in the area of the Blakeley and Apalachee rivers.
Search teams have recovered life jackets, ice chests and a gas tank from Blakeley and Apalachee rivers, items that friends and family said they recognized. That debris is evidence that the men had an accident in their 12-foot boat Tuesday, authorities have said.
In an accident, the missing men would have had to fight cold water, strong winds and possibly hypothermia, Miller said. Under those conditions, the chances of survival have decreased, he said, but they could still be alive.

Three missing fishermen apparent victims of boating accident
“We’re convinced there has been a boating accident,” said Ken Eslava, of the Daphne Search and Rescue Team.
On Thursday, the North Baldwin Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team searched the Apalachee River with a dog trained to locate human bodies.
Divers also probed the bottom of Blakeley River for possible remains of the boat or the missing men, said Rick Miller, a spokesman for the Alabama Marine Police.

A search is under way for missing 26 year old Steven Coble who is reported to have fallen overboard out of a small aluminum boat or a canoe while fishing.
Rescue crews were searching the ocean off Hull, Mass., early Friday after two men were reported missing after they took a boat out on the water in the middle of the night. Hull, MA police and fire crews set up a rescue staging area near Gunrock Beach where they were searching for a 26-year-old man identified as Steven Coble.
According to authorities the boat capsized and one man swam toward the breakwater off Driftway Avenue. To make matters worse the water temperature this time of year is about 39 degrees.
Brad Turner, 19, of Rockland, MA, was rescued and was expected to survive. He said that he and Coble, his cousin, had taken a canoe out on the water and Coble fell in. Turner was found clinging to some rocks at Reef Point. The cousin was not wearing a life jacket. (The Boston Channel/Yahoo News)
Update: Still no sign of boater missing off Hull: Search suspended pending sighting or further information
HULL – The family of a Hull man missing after a canoe accident is hoping for the best, but after a day without a sign of him, the inevitable began to sink in. ‘‘We’re hoping he is safe, but no matter what happens we want him back, we want to get him home,’’ said Melissa Welch, sister of Steve Coble, 26.
Brad Turner, who was found some 65 yards off shore on a jetty described what happened.
Coble and his 19-year-old cousin, Brad Turner of Rockland, went for a fishing trip in a canoe Thursday at about 11 p.m. after a day in which temperatures rose to nearly 60 degrees.
What started as a lark has turned into a tragedy. ‘‘It’s devastating. It’s horrible,’’ Welch, Coble’s sister, said.
Authorities were alerted to a problem at about 2:30 a.m. Friday when an Atlantic Avenue resident called the police and said he had heard screaming across the water from his house.
Rescuers found Turner, soaked to the bone and shivering, on a jetty of rocks more than 65 yards from the shore.
Wayne Turner, Brad Turner’s uncle, said his nephew and Coble were past the jetty when a wave capsized the canoe.
‘‘Brad said that when they went out the water was like glass, but when you get past the jetty, the currents kick in and it got choppy,’’ Turner said.
He said the men were a couple of hundred yards from shore when the canoe went over.

The North Carolina Tar Heels cap of Scot Radel was found in the Mississippi River. Upon the discovery of the cap, the parents of Scot Radel called off the search for the missing 21-year-old from Owatonna, MN.
The student’s father, Allan Radel, confirmed that the baseball hat found in the river matched the North Carolina Tar Heels cap worn by his son when he disappeared nearly two weeks ago.
The father says now the scope of their search will change from finding the man to looking for a body.
But Allan Radel says investigations into how his son fell into the river will continue. Radel says he believes Scot was the victim of foul play.

Searchers for the hat belonging to Scot Radel around 11 a.m. near a Mississippi River dam. Radel’s father confirmed that the hat was his son’s.
Police Chief Dennis Ballentine said he believed Radel’s body was also the river, but a search with an underwater camera was put off because of unsafe ice.

The family of Jennifer Kesse also got some helpful tips this afternoon in a telephone call from Beth Twitty, mother of missing Natalee Holloway in Aruba.
The family is also getting help from the mother of Natalie Holloway. Holloway is the Alabama girl who disappeared in Aruba last year. Her mother, Beth Twitty, recently called Jennifer Kesse’s mother to offer some advice. She told the Kesses to think of the search as job and don’t give up hope.
Jennifer Kesse’s mom, Joyce Kesse, made the following statement as any caring parent would.
“This is our new job and our new jobs are to find our daughters and each week we will make a strategy of what we want to accomplish that week and each night when we go to bed, we at least we’ll know what we are going to do the next morning.” (WFTV)

A tip that investigators received Sunday night in the disappearance of 24 year old Jennifer Kesse lead to the search of an apartment in Orange County.
Sunday, investigators received a tip from a woman who said Kesse was being held in an apartment unit located at 1414 40th Street in Orange County.
“We had information that she was seen there and that she was alive and she was being held against her will,” Orange police Sgt. Richard Ring said. “Detectives working the case interviewed that person and that person apparently gave them enough information to make them concerned.”
(Local 6)
The search turned up negative.
SWAT Team Conducts Raids In Search for Jennifer Kesse
Despite two SWAT team raids that turned up nothing, Orlando police and the parents of Jennifer Kesse said the search for the 24-year-old is moving forward. The SWAT team moved in Sunday night on two houses on 40th Street, near Rio Grande Avenue.
But word that Kesse was being held in a boarding house a few miles from her condo turned out to be false. Police said it was a solid lead that brought them to the boarding house along Orange Blossom Trail.
There is a $115,000 reward.
The Kesses said the publicity from Sunday’s raid also sent more leads pouring into Crimeline (800-423-TIPS).
