The question remains that could the case of missing Kara Kopetsky have a connection to that of Kelsey Smith? Could Edwin R. Hall, the individual charged in the murder of Kelsey Smith have any connection to the disappearance of Kara Kopetsky? As police found a body 6 miles from where Kara Kopetsky lived, her parents feared for the worse. As it turned out, the body found was that of Kelsey Smith. Is it a coincidence that Kelsey’s body was found so close to where Kara lived. One does wonder whether there is a connection.
Jim and Rhonda Beckford, like thousands of others across Kansas City, watched with trepidation Wednesday as news unfolded about a body found just six miles from their Belton home.
Theirs, though, was a special brand of fear. Their 17-year-old daughter, Kara Kopetsky, has been missing since May 4. So while the search for Kelsey Smith took place, the Beckfords’ fears mounted.
Tarnished relief came after about an hour, when a Belton police sergeant arrived to tell them it wasn’t Kara Kopetsky. (Kansas City.com)
Smith Murder May Hold Clues in Kopetsky Disappearance
Investigators are saying they can’t rule out the possibility that the kidnapping and murder of 18-year old Kelsey Smith is related to the disappearance of a Missouri girl.

Police consider links to missing teens
When investigators in the Smith case announced Wednesday that a body had been found in Longview Lake Park, Kopetsky’s parents, Jim and Rhonda Beckford, waited nervously until Spears told them the body was that of Smith, and not Kara’s.
”Sitting here, a month later, and then you see somebody that has the same physical characteristics and not less than 30 minutes apart in distance wise and you start associating things,” said Jim Beckford, Kara’s stepfather. ”We didn’t have the resources and the video tape, and we didn’t have proof that Kara was abducted.”
Beckford also noted that his stepdaughter disappeared the same day a tornado struck Greensburg, Kan. The story dominated media coverage in the area.
Spears said most media didn’t give Kopetsky’s disappearance the attention he thought it warranted. (Ark City.net)

18 year old Randle Terry had been missing since Tuesday, May 29, 2007 while swimming in Spring Creek near Riley Fuzzel Road. Volunteer members of Texas Equusearch joined the efforts to help find the missing Terry.
Texas EquuSearch crews used boats to search the water.
“The current is not as strong as I thought it was going to be,” said Tim Miller with Texas EquuSearch. “The waters went down considerably since yesterday, so all we need now is a little bit of luck and a lot of prayers.”
The Coast Guard and local law enforcement agencies searched the area until about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, and then again on Wednesday but found nothing.
Searchers said the water is very murky and about 20 feet deep because of recent rainfall.
The searched turned into a recovery mission by Wednesday afternoon. Volunteers believe Terry’s body is near where he was last seen.
“Normally, they don’t go too far. But, we do realize we’ve got quite a current here,” Miller said.
However, on Thursday the body of Randle Terry was found by members of Texas Equusearch in Spring Creek.
TES crew members have found the body of Randle Terry about a mile from where he went underwater in the creek. We pray that this family can now find the peace and begin to heal as they find ways to deal with this tragedy. We wish to thank everyone for their genuine care and concern to find this young man. A special thank you to all of our members who continue to dedicate themselves for such a tough job. Thank you to all of Randle’s classmates, teachers, family and friends that came to support each other. May you all continue to stay close and keep each other through this difficult time and always. God Bless you all.
This beautiful photo was provided by Carolyn Mitchell. Randle’s family wanted us to share this photo with you all. May You Rest In Peace. (TES)

It has been a little over 6 months since 15 year old, Bonny Eagle High School sophomore Coreen Wiese went missing on November 8, 2006. Just recently a 6 months vigil was held for missing Coreene Wiese.
During the search for the missing teen suicide notes were found as well as possible sighting of Coreen Wiese. On late Friday night a body was found floating in the Saco River that is being speculated as being that of the missing Coreen Wiese. A group of teenagers found the body around 11:55pm on Friday night about 6 miles downstream from where Coreen Wiese was reported last seen. It looks like this case has come to an all to sad end.
The family of missing teenager Coreen Wiese is awaiting word on whether the body of a female found floating in the Saco River late Friday night is that of the 15-year-old girl.
State medical examiner Dr. Margaret Green-wald plans to perform an autopsy on the body this afternoon, according to her office.
“The hope is a positive identification will take place at this time,” said Stephen McCausland, spokesman for Maine’s Department of Public Safety.
A woman answering the phone at the Wiese home identified herself as a family member and said the girl’s parents would have nothing to say before the autopsy.
The woman added that everyone in the community probably can understand how the family must feel about “not knowing.”
The Maine Warden Service said that after the body was found, it canceled a search for Wiese that had been scheduled for May 20. (Portland Press Hearald)

UPDATE I: Today’s announcement, the body of a girl found in the Saco River early Saturday is Coreen Wiese.
“We now know that the body found in the Saco River is our beloved daughter Coreen,” Wesley and Cynthia Wiese said in an e-mailed statement after the body was identified by the state Medical Examiner’s Office today.
“We are deeply saddened with her loss, she is loved and missed by all. We wish to thank the community of Buxton, all of Coreen’s family and friends, the media, and law enforcement personnel that have been so helpful with the search for Coreen during the past 6 months. Because of all your help and God’s will we are able to bring Coreen home.” (Maine Today)
Body found in river identified as that of missing teen
The Maine Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that the victim was Coreen Wiese of Buxton, a student at Bonny Eagle High School.
Preliminary identification was made by comparing orthodontic work, while confirmation came through DNA tests at the Maine State Police Crime Laboratory.
The autopsy Sunday revealed no significant injuries prior to death and the medical examiner concluded that the findings were all consistent with drowning. A ruling on the manner of death was deferred pending results of toxicology tests and further investigation. (Boston Globe)

Search and rescue workers continue to look for missing persons and possible survivors in Greensburg, KS after severe weather and tornadoes desimated the town on Friday and over the weekend. At least 8 people have died in the Greensburg area from the violent weather; however, authorities are still optimistic that they will find survivors and continue to call it a “search and rescue” mission.
GREENSBURG, Kan. (AP) — Searchers went back to work Sunday looking for anyone who might have been trapped since a tornado wiped most of this south-central Kansas town off the map. “At this point, it’s still a search and rescue mission,” Kansas state trooper Ronald Knoefel said. “We don’t want to give up hope.”
Maj. Gen. Tod Bunting, the state’s adjutant general, said officials did not know how many people are missing.
“A lot of people have gone to other places and it’s difficult to track them down,” he said.
At least 10 people were known dead from weekend storms. Eight of them were in the Greensburg area and two others died elsewhere in Kansas – one during the Friday night storms that hammered Greensburg and one in a second round of storms late Saturday, state officials said.
The storms in Kansas were parts of a weekend of violent weather, with tornadoes also dashing across other parts of the Plains states late Saturday. And on Sunday, the National Weather Service posted a new tornado warning for south-central Kansas, saying a funnel cloud was spotted near Corwin, 65 miles southeast of Greensburg.
The Greensburg, KS area has just been destroyed as almost every thing in the town was destroyed. The town has literally been wiped off the map. Check out the video of the damage and devastation caused by the tornado.
Hewitt estimated 95 percent of the town of 1,500 was destroyed and predicted rescue efforts could take days as survivors could be trapped in basements and under rubble.
“This is one of the most devastating tornadoes we have had in Kansas,” said U.S. Rep. Jerry Moran.
At a shelter in neighboring Haviland, Cheryll Behm said her home in Greensburg is probably repairable, unlike the rest of the town.
“I am concerned Greensburg never will be built,” said Behm, a nurse’s aide at the Greensburg hospital. “There is no place to go back to work to. All of Main Street is gone.”
