As Randolph, VT lay 12 year old Brooke Bennett to rest there are further investigations into the death of Brooke. Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 9, 2008 as the small town in Vermont paid their respects to 12 year old Brooke Bennett and tried to make sense out of the senseless.
Brooke Bennett, Rest in Peace
Thousands of miles away in Texas, Federal authorities were searching a landfill in San Antonio where they believe a laptop or hard drive owned by Brooke’s former step-father Raymond Gagnon containing evidence related to Brooke Bennett’s disappearance and death last month may be located. Raymond Gagnon has already facing obstruction of justice charges in the Brooke Bennett case and separate charges of child porn in AL.

Erik Vasys, a spokesman for the FBI’s regional office in San Antonio, Texas, said Friday that authorities are searching through trash and other waste at the Allied Waste Services Landfill off of Interstate 10 East.
That San Antonio landfill may be the dumping site for trash from a local apartment rented by Raymond Gagnon, Bennett’s former stepfather who is facing charges in Alabama for possession of child pornography.
The 40-year-old Gagnon allegedly instructed his landlord last month to throw away a safe containing a computer stored at his apartment that police say contained volumes of child pornography, including sexual photos of an underage female witness involved in Bennett’s disappearance.
“We are working to locate a hard drive or laptop computer that was disposed of at the instruction of Mr. Gagnon,” Vasys said early Friday afternoon. “Based on information we have received, this landfill is the dumping site for trash from his apartment.”
FBI Searches Texas Landfill For Safe That May Contain Child Porn
Gagnon rented a room in San Antonio from Kevin Grosenheider, who according to an affidavit told authorities he threw the safe into an apartment complex garbage bin near his home at Gagnon’s request.
Grosenheider is quoted in an affidavit as saying he didn’t know what was in the safe “but assumed it was child pornography.”
Federal prosecutors said Gagnon tried to access his ex-stepdaughter’s MySpace account “on or about” June 26 from a library computer in Cullman, Vt.
Authorities search landfill for safe
An FBI spokesman says investigators have searched for the safe over the past week.

24 year old Holley Wimunc was reported missing Thursday morning, July 10, 2008 when she failed to show up for work at Womack Army Hospital at Ft. Bragg. Fayetteville police were dispatched to Wimunc’s apartment home on Thursday morning at the Morganton Place Apartments on Morganton Road near Bonaza Drive to find her apartment smoldering and a strong odor of gasoline. Holley Wimunc was not found at the scene and is considered a missing person.
Missing Lt. Holley Wimunc
When officers arrived on the scene it was determined that there was evidence of an arson,” Fayetteville Police Lt. David Sportsman said.
Investigators say two bedrooms were burned and a back window was broken out. Wimunc was missing, but her car was still in the parking lot.
All signs in this case point to a terrible situation. A missing 24 year old woman, a burned apartment of which the cause was arson, a messy divorce, reports of domestic violence and a retraining order in which according to documents claim that Holley Wiminc’s husband threatened her and threatened to commit suicide.
In a court filing for a protective order, Wimunc said that in May her husband had knocked her down, held a loaded gun to her head and then threatened to commit suicide, WRAL reported.
The court documents indicate that John Wimunc is a Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune, the station reported.
According to court documents, Lt. Holley Wimunc was going through a divorce with her husband, Marine Corporal John Wimunc. Holley Wimnuc previously had taken out a restraining order against him. documents report that on occasion, Corporal John Wimunc held a gun to his wife’s head and threatened to killer her.
The Fayetteville Police Department identified 24-year-old Holley Wimunc, a second lieutenant at the Womack Army Hospital at Fort Bragg, as missing and endangered Friday. A smoldering blaze was found Thursday morning at her apartment by a concerned colleague after Wimunc failed to show up for her nursing job in the military hospital’s maternity ward.
Authorities quickly ruled that the fire had been intentionally set with the help of an accelerant, Lt. David Sportsman, spokesman for the Fayetteville Police Department, told ABC News in an interview Friday. Investigators spent Thursday contacting Wimunc’s family and friends, hoping she’d intentionally taken off. Wimunc was nowhere to be found, and authorities identified her Friday so the public could possibly help in the investigation. (ABC News)
Soldier Missing After Apartment Fire
Wimunc was gone, but her car was still in the parking lot, police said. They towed the car — a white Dodge — to a site where it could be examined.
Houp said taking the car was a precautionary measure.
“We don’t want to leave any stone unturned,” he said.
Investigators with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies waited at a police command post outside the building most of the day for warrants to search the apartment. They entered the apartment about 7:15 p.m.
Another Fort Bragg soldier is under investigation, as her apartment is found destroyed by an allegedly set fire, and she is nowhere to be found.

UPDATE II: Charred human remains found in Onslow on the south end of Camp Lejeune
Authorities are reporting a grisly discovery in what they suspect may be the body of missing Army 2nd Lt. Holley Lynn Wimunc. The remains discovered appear to have been burned and mutilated.
SNEADS FERRY, NC (WTVD) — Onslow Sheriff’s investigators and military authorities are investigating charred human remains found near Camp Lejeune.
Onslow County Sheriff Ed Brown said the human remains were found Sunday in a shallow grave off Old Folkstone Road in Sneads Ferry. Sneads Ferry is on the south end of Camp Lejeune.
Investigators believe someone set a fire in the area in an attempt to cover up a crime.
Neither the Onslow County Sheriff’s Officer or military authorities have confirmed whether this is connected to the disappearance of Fort Bragg soldier Holley Wimunc.
Charred remains found near Camp Lejeune
“We did in fact find human remains in what appeared to be a shallow grave. (The remains) are being guarded now by law enforcement officers. The crime scene will be processed first thing tomorrow morning,” Hudson said.
Remains found near Lejeune may be missing soldier
“There was physical evidence that indicated the body had been there for a substantial period of time,” Hudson said.
The body had been burned prior to the brush fire, Hudson said. There is reason to suspect it is Holley Wimunc, Hudson said, but he would not specify why. He said investigators left the body in place under guard Sunday night and plan to examine it closer today.
He would not discuss whether investigators have a suspect or suspects.
The Jacksonville Daily News, citing unnamed sources, reported Sunday that investigators found “bladed weapons” near the body and that it was mutilated.

15 year old Jeffrey Blake Stone had been missing since March 24, 2008 when he disappeared from his home Attalla, AL. Now comes the grizzly find … the body of 15 year-old Jeffrey Blake Stone was found in a freezer. The sad news of the discovery of Jeffrey Blake Stone’s body was only made worse by the manner in how he was killed. It appears from all accounts that Jeffrey Blake Stone was murdered as a thrill kill by Nathaniel Wayne Lee and Troy Andrew Smiley.
“It appears this senseless murder of this 15-year-old had been planned for weeks,” Sheriff Todd Entrekin said.
“And once they got him over there, they executed their plan for no other reason than to get the rush from killing somebody.”
Entrekin said it is believed Stone, who had been reported missing on March 24, was killed the day he went missing.
What is this world coming to? What a senseless murder.
Stone was reported missing in late march. Two young men are being questioned by deputies, and charges are expected later today.
The Etowah County Sheriff says the body was found in a chest-type freezer at a home in the Littleton community.
Investigators say they believe Stone was killed and initially buried somewhere else, and then moved to the freezer sometime last week.
The freezer found just down the road from where Stone lived.
Two Etowah County men have been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Missing Jeffrey Blake Stone
Nathaniel Wayne Lee, 19, of 1176 Littleton Cut-off Road, Attalla, and Troy Andrew Smiley, 22, of 1084 Anna Drive, Attalla, have been served with warrants and are being held in the Etowah County Detention Center.
No bond was set.
Stone had been missing since March 24, and it’s believed he was killed that day. Stone was fatally shot.
Investigators received a new lead Tuesday morning that pointed them to a shallow grave on a logging road, Sheriff Todd Entrekin said. He said evidence at that site prompted investigators to obtain a search warrant for a home not far from where Stone lived with his father and stepmother, Jeff and Lynn Stone.
Etowah Thrill Kill Arrests
Wednesday night: 19-year-old Nathaniel Wayne Lee and a 22-year-old Troy Andrew Smiley are in custody, charged with murder. Detectives say the pair lived just down the road from the Stone family, where they did not work, but instead the Sheriff says they “smoked dope together” and hatched a plan to kill someone: just for the rush of killing, according to the DA. “For a 15-year-old child to be taken out of the world for two folks to have a thrill is just very disturbing to me and I think I speak for all the investigators in the Sheriff’s Department as well,” Harp said.

A typhoon in the Philippines has capsized a ferry where 700 people are missing and feared dead. To date, 28 survivors have been rescued; however, hundreds are still missing. The Princess of the Stars ferry left Manila on Friday en route to Cebu when contact was lost.
820 missing as ferry capsizes in typhoon
- Ferry leaves Manila on Friday
- 626 passengers and 121 crew on board
- Engines failed Saturday afternoon
- Radio contact lost soon afterwards
- Rescuers reach ship on Sunday afternoon
The ferry was en route to Cebu from Manila when it capsized on Saturday
Coast guard chief Vice Adm. Wilfredo Tamayo said 28 survivors of the ferry disaster had been found. Manila’s DZBB radio said the survivors, including four crewmen and three women, drifted at sea for more than 24 hours wearing their life jackets, reaching Mulanay township in eastern Quezon province late Sunday.
Coast guard frogmen who managed to get to the stricken ship got no response when they rapped on the hull with metal instruments, then had to give up late Sunday due to the strong waves. The ship carried more than 740 passengers and crew.
Update I: 800 missing as typhoon Philippines ferry … 32 survivors recovered.
The recovery brought to 32 the number of survivors recovered from the sinking of the Princess of the Stars Saturday off the coast of Sibuyan Island in the central Philippines.
On Sunday, four survivors were found in San Fernando town on Sibuyuan island.
The 24,000-tonne ferry sank after running aground due to huge waves and strong winds spawned by Typhoon Fengshen, which left at least 152 people dead.
Scores drowned and missing as typhoon lashes Philippines
UPDATE II: Divers retrieve bodies from Philippine ferry
While the divers have only found bodies so far, officials were not willing to give up hope of finding more survivors among the more than 800 people missing since the seven-story ferry listed and went down in a half-hour or less Saturday.
“There is a slim chance that we can still find survivors” insided the ferry, coast guard Lt. Cmdr Rogelio Villanueva said. “As the days pass, indeed the chance is getting slimmer.”

7-year-old Randy Sylvester Jr. and his 3-year-old sister, Denim Sylvester had been missing since Fathers Day, June 15, 2008. Several searches had been conducted including help from the volunteer searchers of Texas EquuSearch.
However, today there is sad news to report out of Pasadena, TX. Police have found the charred remains of Randy and Denim Sylvester. Their remains were found packed in a wooden chest and a suit case and left in a wooded area about 5 miles from their Pasadena, TX home. Randy Sylvester Sr. had led police to the area on Friday night. Sylvester Sr. had been a suspect in his children’s disappearance from the outset.
Pasadena police Capt. A.H. Corbett told reporters Saturday that the children’s father, Randy Sylvester Sr., led searchers to the remains shortly before midnight Friday after a week of misleading statements of where the children were located. Sylvester is still jailed on an assault charge in an alleged attack on the children’s mother, Jerilynn St. Cyr, on Monday night.

52 year old Mark Ginn had been missing since April 14, 2008. He was last seen driving a 1996 bronze Jeep Grand Cherokee with license plate number 255 HEN. The FBI became involved in the case and was searching for Ginn.
WLBT has learned why the FBI is involved. Sources confirm there is an ongoing investigation concerning Ginn’s employment with BankPlus in Byram.
The probe is focused on suspicious activity at the bank. BankPlus officials would not comment. However, an official with the Byram branch earlier said that they could neither confirm nor deny any money is missing from the bank and they are cooperating with authorities.
Search Continues for Missing Byram Man
Ginn: Missing person or fugitive?
Not long after that, Ginn vanished.
Footage from a local Home Depot showed him buying a hose and duct tape, which led to initial speculation he planned to use these items to use his car to asphyxiate himself.
Authorities have since wondered if he made the purchases to trick them into thinking he committed suicide.
A week after Ginn vanished, the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department enlisted help from the FBI, which investigates embezzlement and other crimes against banks insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.
The department also received help from the U.S. Marshals Service, which specializes in searching for fugitives.
Rumors swirled that Ginn may be on the Caribbean island of Barbados, but if authorities know where he is, they aren’t saying.
They believe Ginn is alive and have publicly ruled out foul play.
UPDATE I: Ginn Missing Person Case May Now Be Classified As Criminal Investigation
WLBT has learned a Jackson business owner may be the victim of some fraudulent loan activity by Ginn. As WLBT first reported, the FBI is investigating suspicious transactions at the bank where the 52-year-old Ginn was employed.
Sources tell us Warren Logan, the owner of this business, Graves Auto Electric on Highway 80 West, recently discovered two separate 50-thousand dollar loans on property he owns…loans he apparently did not seek.
UPDATE II: Vehicle of Mark Ginn Found Sunday with Body Inside
The 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee belonging to missing 52 year old Mark Ginn was found Sunday be two people in a rural area north of Hinds County.
After 34 days with no sign of Mark Ginn or his vehicle, the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department receives a surprising phone call. Two people found Ginn’s 1996 bronze Jeep Grand Cherokee in a heavily wooded area on private property near the intersection of Johnson Line and Cox Ferry Roads. That’s in rural Hinds County, 11 miles west of Flora. A body was inside the vehicle. Sources tell WLBT, the body was wearing the same clothes Ginn was last seen in. The Sheriff’s Department can not confirm if it is Ginn until a medical pathologist identifies the body.
The jeep was found less than 20 miles away from where Ginn was last seen driving in Clinton. He had undergone open heart surgery two weeks before his disappearance. Those close to Ginn feared it may have been a factor.
An unidentified body was also found in the vehicle. Hinds County Sheriff’s Department Captain Steve Pickett said the body is now at the State Crime Lab where a medical pathologist will make the identification.
UPDATE III: Autopsy May Determine If Body Is That Of Mark Ginn
Even though the body has not yet been positively identified, it looks like the family considers it strictly a formality. Funeral arrangements have been made for Mark Ginn after finding his vehicle with a body inside. Family members obviously feel that it is Mark Ginn.

15 year old Kaelin Rose Glazier had been missing for 12 years. Kaelin Glazier was a sophomore at South Medford High School in Ruch, OR and was last seen November 6, 1996 at the home of Billy Simmons of Ruch, OR. Billy Simmons, according to police remains their primary suspect. Billy Simmons was the last person to see Kaelin alive. Detectives have him listed as the main person of interest. As of now no arrests have been made.
12 years after her disappearance, Glazier’s remains were found by a man working on his property, and Oregon Medical Examiner Dr. James Olson says she was a homicide victim.
The investigation had stagnated. Several retired “cold case” investigators who worked the case over time have returned to assist.
“These folks had a personal interest in this case,” Winters said. “We are going to be open-minded and see where it leads, but Mr. Simmons has always been our person of interest.”
He has not been arrested in the case.
Simmons has said police have contacted him several times but that he maintained his innocence.
Kimberly Cruz described conflicting emotions upon learning her daughter had been found.
“It is not a happy occasion when you learn your daughter was killed,” Cruz said. “But it is a relief to not have to keep searching for the truth. I am grieving and relieved at the same time.” (KOIN News)
