Three men have been arrested, Letalvis Cobbins, Lemaricus Davidson and George Thomas in connect with the brutal murders of 21 year old University of Tennessee student, Channon Christian and 23 year old Christopher Newsom. Police are saying that the couple was carjacked then murdered.
Officers call the deaths brutal slayings and say they came after the couple was carjacked.
Letalvis Cobbins was picked up in Lebanon, Kentucky. His brother, Lemaricus Davidson, was found in Knoxville.
A third man, George Thomas, was found with Cobbins in Kentucky. (Eye Witness News)

The tragic murders of Christian and Newsom are just horrific.
Police say Newsom was shot and his body was burned when it was found. Officers said Christian was held for a couple of days and raped before she was killed.

3 men in custody after Tennessee couple found dead
Federal agents and Knox County officers raided a house Thursday in Lebanon, Ky., about 180 miles north of Knoxville, where they believed the suspects had family.
Two men were detained, Letalvis Cobbins, 24, and a friend, George Thomas. Thomas was being questioned late Thursday, while Cobbins faced federal charges of being a felon in possession of a weapon, Knighten said.
Cobbins, wanted as a “person of interest” in the deaths, had a gun authorities believe may have been used in the crime, Knighten said.
Meanwhile, Cobbins’ brother Lemaricus Davidson, 25, was picked up at an empty house in Knoxville around 3:30 p.m. EST. Also considered a “person of interest” in the case, a weeping Davidson offered no resistance, Knoxville police spokesman Darrell DeBusk said.
Christian’s body was found Tuesday in a house rented by Davidson, authorities said. (WKRN)
Marshal: Man shot, burned; woman raped
How bad must the sexual assault have been that the Marshal would actually make a point to reference what these 3 animals did? What a senseless act of depravity. There is no punishment that is bad enough for these 3 suspects, if they are convicted of the crimes they appear to have committed.
“They did some really nasty things to this lady,” Knighten said.
Newsom was shot and his body burned, Knighten said. He said he didn’t know how Christian died. (KnoxNews)
UPDATE: 4th Suspect, Eric Boyd, Arrested in the Deaths of Christopher Newsom and Channon Christian

A body was found in Perry County, PA with similar features to that of missing 48 year old Elaine M. Pierson.
A woman’s body with “similar features” to those of a Perry County woman missing more than a week was found yesterday about three miles from the missing woman’s home, state police at Newport said.
Police would not say if the body was Elaine M. Pierson, 48, of Trout Lane, Rye Twp. Pierson was reported missing Dec. 29 and hasn’t been heard from since Dec. 27. (Patriot News)
UPDATE: Officials have now confirmed that the body found was that of missing 48 year old Elaine M. Pierson. They are awaiting dental records for final ID. It is believed that she was a victim of a homicide.
Officials have confirmed that the body found nine days after Elaine M. Pierson was reported missing is the victim of a homicide, though positive identification of the body is still waiting on dental records.
Perry County Coroner Michael Shalonis, who had been Pierson’s neighbor since she built her home in the wooded mountainous area of Rye Township about nine years ago, said he believes the body of the white woman in her late 40s, found just three miles from Pierson’s home, is Pierson. (The Mercury)

Pet DNA samples of murder suspect Kenneth Ray Osburn has been sent to the University of California Davis Veterinary Genetics Laboratory. Osburn is charged with the kidnapping and murder of 17 year old Casey Crowder. Animal hairs were found on Casey Crowder’s clothes. If a match, Kenneth Ray Osburn is going to have a difficult time explaining how his pets hairs got on the clothes of Crowder.
After police found Crowder’s body on Sept. 2, investigators reportedly found what they believed were dog hairs, and possibly cat hairs, on her and her clothes. Osburn owned several dogs, police said.
“I wanted those hairs analyzed,” Deen said in an interview. “I’m not going to leave any stone unturned.”
Arkansas State Police investigator Scott Woodward hand-delivered the samples to the California laboratory on Wednesday, the prosecutor said. UC-Davis houses one of the few testing sites in the country that processes forensic veterinary DNA.
Deen said he expected test results by the end of the year. (NWA News)

32 year old Mary Winkler has been charged in the shooting death of her husband Matthew Winkler. She is presently awaiting trial. Now her family is coming out and discussing the tumultuous marriage of Mary and Mathew Winkler. According to her alleged confession, “she snapped”. The family claims that Mary Winkler was abused, physically, emotionally and sexually.
VIDEO
Mary Winkler’s father, Clark Freeman, says Matthew Winkler abused her physically and mentally. He says the abuse became more apparent during the last three years of their marriage.
Freeman says, “I saw bad bruises, the heaviest of makeup covering facial bruises. So one day, I confronted her.”
Friends also say even though Winkler didn’t talk about the abuse, her growing fear of her husband was obvious.
Rudie Thomsen says, “One Sunday, Mary came into the church and I looked at her and she had a black eye.” (ABC 24 My Eye Witness News)
Mary Winkler’s Family Talks for the First Time About Why She Shot Her Husband
In an exclusive interview with “Good Morning America,” Winkler’s family said she killed her husband because she was abused.
“Physical, mental, verbal,” said Clark Freeman, Winkler’s father. “I don’t know how she took it. She’s a stronger individual than I am.”
Freeman says the abuse became more apparent the last three years of Winkler and Matt’s marriage.
“I saw bad bruises. The heaviest of makeup covering facial bruises,” Freeman said. “So one day, I confronted her. I said, ‘Mary Carol, you are coming off as a very abused wife, very battered.’” (ABC News)
UPDATE I: Winkler’s Sisters Speak Out
Mary Winkler’s family wants everyone to know she’s a loving mother who was trapped in an abusive relationship. Her sisters Tabitha Freeman and Amanda Miller appeared on ABC’s Good Morning America to speak about Mary.

“Michelle Young is my daughter; we are shaken and heartbroken at the tragic loss of Michelle. She’s the wife, sister, a granddaughter and most importantly, the mother of my only granddaughter, Cassidy,” Fisher said.
The mother of murdered Michelle Young, Linda Fisher, made a plea and spoke out for the first time in the case of her murdered daughter.
“I’m asking for anyone who has seen or heard anything, as trivial as you might think it is, anything, to please come forward, and help find the person who murdered our daughter. I also want to thank or take the opportunity to thank everyone who has given their love and support to us during this horrible time…I have great faith in the police that they will help find the person who is responsible for taking our Michelle away from us. I love her, I love my Michelle and she’s gone.” (NBC 17)
Hear the mother’s emotional comments here. If anyone has any formation, no matter how rival you think it is, please come forward to bring justice for this family.
To date there have been no arrests made; however, police believe that the murder of Michelle Young was no random crime or act of violence. There was no sign of forced entry at the home.
Part of the 911 call can be heard here.

Michael Keith Moore has been charged with the murder of disappearance of Rachel Cooke. Rachel Cooke has been missing on January 10, 2002. I had the opportunity to meet Robert Cooke, Rachel’s dad in Aruba searching for Natalee Holloway. We were actually roommates in Aruba and discussed his daughter’s disappearance back in July of 2005. My heart goes out to Robert, his wife and their family that they may get justice for Rachel.
The document obtained by KXAN charges Moore with killing Cooke by “striking her with a hammer, by suffocating her, by some manner and means unknown, or by a combination of these acts.”
These type of filings are usually presented when the person suspected of the crime has agreed to plead guilty. But that is not what happened. (KXAN)
Moore pleaded not guilty even though he had previously agreed to plead guilty to the crimes but double crossed District Attorney John Bradley
Bradley is not happy. He was promised a guilty plea by Moore, only to be duped by a not-guilty plea at the last minute. Why it happened is anybody’s guess.
(Michael Moore)
However, seeing that Michael Keith Moore having already been convicted to 3 life sentences it is not all that difficult to understand why this piece of human debris would do such a thing. He has previously been convicted of killing Christina Moore. Michael Keith Moore had contacted the Willaims County Sheriff’s department and told them things regarding Rachel Cooke’s murder that only the killer would know.
As the sheriff points out, it was Moore who called them in August, wanting to confess details that…
“Only the person that was involved in the abduction and obviously the slaying of Rachel Cooke could have known,” Williamson County Sheriff James Wilson said.
So what’s next? Did Moore pull a fast one on the DA or did he set himself up for an even harsher penalty by mocking the system and the authorities? Two things they’re sure of…
“His confession was in all likelihood true,” Wilson said.
Hopefully the DA will file charges against Moore and ask for the death sentence, something he has so richly earned and deserves. (Check out his criminal past)
Rachel Cooke’s Parents Speak Out
Her father told KXAN that he couldn’t believe Moore would put them through this situation and string them along.
“We feel like we were being victimized a second time. But we’ve developed a new motto today, and that’s, ‘We’re not done yet,’” Robert Cooke, Rachel Cooke’s father, said.
“He has decided to play with us a little bit, but we’re still here. We’re not going away,” Janet Cooke, Rachel Cooke’s mother, said. (KXAN)
Why Moore May Have Changed His Plea
District Judge Jon Wisser says he’s seen people confess for all sorts of reasons.
“Maybe they just want to get out of jail. Maybe they want to get in front of the television cameras again,” Wisser said.
This is what Williamson County Sheriff James Wilson says about Moore’s confession.
“It was pretty obvious that he had to have been there, had to have been in the location,” Wilson said on Thursday. (KXAN)

Jason Young, the husband of murdered and pregnant Michelle Young was ordered by a judge to provide investigators with fingerprints, blood samples and other forms of evidence. Jason Young has been named a suspect. The case somewhat resembles the Entwistle murder where the wife was found murdered in her home, husband was not present. However, in that case, sadly, the young child was killed as well.
Young, 32, is named as a suspect on the order, however, he was not required to make a statement, nor was he subject to interrogation, according to Willoughby. Detectives had already seized his car as part of their investigation.
Young has not been charged with anything. A call to his attorney for comment was not returned Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Sheriff’s office, Jason Young complied with the order and went to the City-County Bureau of Identification.
According to the North Carolina general statutes, sheriff’s investigators can use a nontestimonial order to obtain an array of material evidence including fingerprints, palm prints, footprints, blood specimens, hair samples, voice samples and photographs.
Willoughby said the order is less intrusive procedure than a search warrant that requires a lower standard of proof.
“A search warrant requires probable cause, but with a nontestimonial order you are only required to have reasonable suspicion to suspect some person,” Willoughby said Wednesday. (News Observer)

The body of Michelle M. Young, 29, was found in her home outside of Raleigh, NC dead. Young was formerly a cheerleader, Michelle Fisher, at Sayville High School in Long Island. Michelle Young was four months pregnant. Cassidy, her 2 year old daughter was by her side when Michelle’s body was found unaware that her mother was dead.
The Wake County sheriff’s office is treating the incident as a homicide and authorities have recently begun speaking with Jason Young, the husband, who was away on a business trip the day her body was found, according to the Raleigh News & Observer.
“It was a violent death,” Phyllis Stephens, a spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office told the newspaper. The reported cause of death was blunt force trauma. (News Day)

Slain Mother Laid To Rest; Case Draws National Attention
Family members and friends Thursday gathered for the funeral of a young mother who was found dead in her Raleigh home.
Flowers draped the casket and the song “Isn’t She Lovely” played during the service. But friends of Michelle Young said it did not do their friend justice. (WRAL)

It is a mystery as to who murdered Michelle Young in her home. Investigators search the crime scene and interview witnesses. Authorities think Young was murdered sometime between midnight to about 6:00 AM Friday morning.
“It’s a mystery. That is what’s so gripping about it,” Van Susteren told WRAL Thursday evening. “People are supposed to be safe in their homes, but they’re not, as demonstrated by this woman.”
Investigators said Young had been at home with friends until about 10:30 p.m. the night before her body was found. Her husband, Jason Young, told authorities he was out of town on business when his sister-in-law, Meredith Fisher, found his wife’s body.
Fisher told authorities she had received a call from Jason Young asking her to go to his house to pick up something. Authorities said it was a fax.
Slain Woman’s Husband Comes Under Scrutiny
Jason Young, 32, was responding to a court order that allows authorities to take physical evidence from someone close to a criminal case. He arrived with attorney Roger W. Smith Jr. at the City County Bureau of Identification at the Wake County Public Safety Center.
Young’s wife, Michelle Young, 29, died last week from blunt force trauma, according to preliminary autopsy reports. She was also about 20 weeks pregnant with her second child at the time.
Under law, the basis for the non-testimonial order is when “there are reasonable grounds to suspect the person named or described in the affidavit committed the offense.” Detectives can collect blood samples and DNA samples as well as fingerprints, Wake County District Attorney Colon Willoughby said. David Sleigh, Defense attorney for Brian Rooney who is accused of sexually assaulting and murdering Michelle Gardner-Quinn is requesting DNA samples.
BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) – The attorney for Brian Rooney, the man accused of sexually assaulting and then killing a University of Vermont senior, wants extra samples of DNA evidence preserved for independent testing.
Defense attorney David Sleigh is asking a judge to order the Vermont Forensic Lab to save at least three copies of all DNA samples and to ask for special permission to run tests if a sample is too small to be divided.
Attorney Sleigh is arguing that the defense is entitled to DNA samples to independently test the evidence that the state has. The defense can play all the legal games they want, Brian Rooney and the DNA evidence that the prosecution has will prove his guilt. Sure Rooney is entitled to a defense, that does not mean that he is not guilty. The evidence will show that to be a fact.
Deputy State’s Attorney Justin Jiron filed papers objecting to the request to divide samples into thirds. Standard lab protocol calls for dividing the samples in half.
“The defense motion does not indicate a reason for departing from the protocol,” Jiron wrote. “A requirement that all evidence be divided into three or more parts is unduly burdensome.” (Rutland Herald)
