“All missing-persons cases are serious, especially those involving juveniles,” Nelson said. Richmond police have investigated roughly 100 missing-persons cases this year.
Police were quick to make the following comment with Monica’s case as compared to the other much publicized Richmond missing teen, Taylor Behl.

As the investigation inti the the missing VCU freshman Taylor Behl continues, her mother, Janet Pelasara, said Wednesday that the time had come to remove Taylor’s belongings from the Virginia Commonwealth University dorm. Janet Pelasara went on to say, “it was time because when Taylor is found, she will not be attending VCU. I’m taking her home with me.”
RICHMOND, Sept. 21 — Police are still searching for missing college student Taylor Marie Behl, but her mother said Wednesday that the time had come to remove her belongings from the Virginia Commonwealth University dorm where she lived for just two weeks.
“It was just what we had to do,” said Janet Pelasara, who stayed behind at her hotel here while her brother and attorney packed her daughter’s things. “It was time because when Taylor is found, she will not be attending VCU. I’m taking her home with me.”
Students eyed Peterson and Behl’s uncle, Jeff Pelasara, as they stacked the boxes and bags into the vehicle. A scruffy teddy bear was carefully set on the dashboard.
It appears that another missing girls family seems to be disappointed in the actions of the authorities. As in the case of the Natalee Holloway initial investigation, it appears that Taylor Behl’s family is none too happy with the Campus security holding on the the case so long.
Pelasara said the family is disappointed that campus police officials “held onto the case until it was beyond their capabilities.” City police assumed the lead role in the investigation Sept. 15.
“She has not been found, but it’s not because of a lack of a effort,” said Ann Buckley, a spokeswoman for campus police.
Behl was last seen about 10 p.m. Sept. 5 after a late-night dinner at a cafĂ © near her dorm. She left her dorm room after she found her roommate there with a boyfriend.
People with information about Behl’s whereabouts are asked to call 8-7-7-2-4-4-H-E-L-P.

Just when one thought some things in the investigation of the disappearance of Taylor Behl could not get any more strange comes this piece of information. It appears that Ben Fawley, the 38 year old amateur photographer and “person of interest” in the investigation filed a police report claiming he had been abducted and robbed just hours after Behl was last seen on the night of September 5.
A 38-year-old amateur photographer — one of the last people to see missing Virginia Commonwealth University student Taylor Behl — filed a report with police claiming he had been abducted and robbed just hours after Behl was last seen on the night of Sept. 5.
The photographer told Richmond police that he was walking in an alley near Franklin Street and Monument Avenue at 5 a.m. Sept. 6 when he was “robbed by an unknown number of people,” according to a Richmond Police Department incident report obtained last night by The Times-Dispatch.
Ben Fawley’s attorney then went on to describe the attack against his client.
The photographer told police that he was hit in the stomach by “an unknown object” before being pushed down and having a bag placed over his head. “He was then put into a vehicle and driven to an unknown location and pushed out of the vehicle onto a dirt road,” according to the report.
Then conveniently enough Ben Fawley went on to state in his report that he was “unable to provide any details as to the location where he was pushed out of the vehicle,” and that “he needed medication for a bipolar disorder and had been drinking before the alleged attack”.
Once again defense attorney, Chris Collins, was quick to add that, “the attack has ‘nothing to do with the other matter’ involving Behl’s disappearance”. Rather interesting just like this had nothing to do with Behl’s disappearance either? Trouble just seems to find Ben Fawley.
Also it another rather bizarre twist in this investigation according to the police,
Monday there was an arrest of a Richmond man on drug-possession charges. Police believe that man’s scent was detected by a bloodhound brought in to sniff Behl’s Ford Escort, according to sources close to the investigation.
Originally the Sheppard Street apartment man who was arrested stated he did not know Taylor Behl or been in her vehicle; however, that seems to be incorrect.
The man, who was interviewed by police, told Times-Dispatch columnist Mark Holmberg that he told police he did not know Behl and had not been in her car.
Investigative sources said the Sheppard Street man is a skateboarding friend of another acquaintance of Behl’s. The acquaintance’s Nissan Altima was impounded by police for investigation this week. Police also interviewed him.

The investigation in to the disappearance of VCU freshman Taylor Behl took a strange twist yesterday. The 38 year old amateur photographer, Ben Fawley, who has been rumored to have had a relationship with Taylor Behl was linked to a child pornography investigation according to court documents as reported by NBC4.
The investigation into a missing Virginia Commonwealth University freshman from Vienna took a new turn Wednesday.
Police filed unrelated charges against a person questioned in the student’s disappearance.
Police searched the apartment of 38-year-old photographer Ben Fawley as part of a child pornography investigation, according to court documents. According to the search warrant, investigators went to Fawley’s apartment looking for images and documents related to child pornography and the distribution of child pornography. Investigators said they took away at least five computers and an assortment of computer equipment.
Chris Collins, Ben Fawley’s attorney, has stated that his client did see Taylor Behl the day that she disappeared but had nothing to do with Taylor’s disappearance. Collins also states that the child pornography charge has nothing to do with the Taylor Behl investigation. Oh boy, I guess Attorney Collins has quite his hands full defending Ben Fawley. As per the defense attorneys, they are always innocent and the alleged implicating evidence always belongs to someone else.
His lawyer, Chris Collins, said that there are indications that Fawley and Behl had an intimate relationship. Collins said that Fawley saw Behl on the day she disappeared but had nothing to do with the disappearance. He also said the pornography investigation has nothing to do with Taylor Behl.
“It’s my information that those were found on computers from an ex-roommate,” Collins said. “And I don’t know any of the details of the case or what the government is planning on doing with it. I do know it’s got nothing to do with Taylor Behl.”
