That is correct, FBI agents not only working along side and advising local police from Trinidad, but also helping in the search and actually finding the missing body of Balram Maharaj. FBI agents coming to the aid at the request and physically searching in an island in the Caribbean to help find a missing person. The FBI accomplished their goal and provided closure to a missing persons case on a Caribbean island. Seems the FBI is allowed to search and provide more than just advice and observe in missing person cases; they did in Trinidad and it paid dividends.
Balram Maharaj has been missing since April 6, 2005 when he was snatched from the Samaan Tree Bar in Aranguez.
Maharaj, 62, a Trinidadian now resident in the US and a US war veteran, was snatched from the Samaan Tree Bar in Aranguez on April 6.
According to police reports, Maharaj, who was here on a two-week vacation, was approached by an armed man who bundled him into a waiting car.
A $3-million ransom demand was subsequently made for his safe release.

The United States government also provided a reward for information and the safe return for Balram Maharaj.

Carlie Brucia verdict has just been announced … Guilty on all charges … Jurors deciding fate of Joseph P. Smith, accused of kidnapping, raping and killing Carlie Brucia
A jury reached its verdict Thursday in the murder trial of a former mechanic charged with kidnapping, raping and killing Carlie Brucia, whose abduction was caught by a security camera.
CNN: Conviction in taped abduction case
Joseph Smith was found guilty Thursday of kidnapping, raping and killing 11-year-old Carlie Brucia in a case that made worldwide news when the police disseminated a videotape of Smith abducting the girl outside a car wash.
Jurors deliberated briefly before delivering their verdict after the prosecutor, in closing arguments Wednesday, said a “mountain” of evidence pointed to the guilt of the former auto mechanic.
With the mountain of evidence against Smith and the shameful and disgusting acts he did to this poor innocent child; no penalty he receives is vindication to what he did. Thank the jury for not seeing through any of the pathetic attempts of smoke screens by Smith’s defense attorneys. GUILTY, GOOD RIDDANCE.
Earlier Wednesday, Tebrugge played a videotape of Smith’s brother, John, asking about reward money in an effort to discredit the brother’s testimony.
John Smith tearfully told jurors that his sibling had confessed to “rough sex” with the girl and to killing her, and then told him where the body was. After the prosecution began its closing argument, Carlie’s mother, Sue Schorpen, left the courtroom in tears. She rarely attended the trial.
Carlie Brucia, rest in peace and God bless the family.

According to the AP David G. Ludwig, who allegedly killed Michael F. and Cathryn Lee Borden, and Kara Beth Borden spotted at Pennsylvania truck stop Monday morning, but were not caught.
LITITZ, Pa. – A missing 14-year-old girl and an 18-year-old man who allegedly murdered her parents were spotted at a central Pennsylvania truck stop Monday morning, but were not caught, police said.
A worker at the truck stop told The Associated Press the girl appeared to have been crying.
From the reports by witnesses who positively identified Kara Beth Borden at the truck stop; it appeared that Kara Beth Borden had been crying which could show the danger that she may be in. She may have taken against her will rather than as some have speculated that she may be a willing participant in running off with David G. Ludwig.
Lititz Police Chief William Seace said Monday afternoon that Ludwig and Kara Beth, who is believed to be Ludwig’s girlfriend, had been “positively identified” at a truck stop in Lamar, about 90 miles from the Borden home.
Amanda Workman, the shift manager at the Subway sandwich shop at the truck stop, said she sold the couple an Italian sub at about 9 a.m. Monday, and thought they matched a radio description she had heard earlier.
“Her face was all puffy, her eyes were puffy,” Workman told The Associated Press. “You could tell she was crying.”
She said they paid cash and had apparently made another purchase from a different part of the truck stop.
“They were really shady. They didn’t want to talk a lot. They just ordered their sandwich and left,” Workman said.
Borden had her hair in a ponytail and appeared to be crying, Seace said. Ludwig has cut his hair to a length of about one inch, he said.

Alinda Miller has not been seen since November 7, 2005. Alinda Miller was kidnapped by her husband Ronald Joseph Nelson Monday morning, who broke in to her house that she shared with her father.
Metro police are still looking for a woman they believe was kidnapped and is in danger. Police say Alinda Miller was taken by her husband Ronald Joseph Nelson Monday morning. She hasn’t been seen now since Nov. 7.
Police say Alinda Miller was at the home she shares with her father when her husband, Ronald Joseph Nelson, a parolee, broke in through a sliding glass door. A friend staying at the home fled and called police.
Alinda Miller is listed as an endangered person and there are warrants from the D.A.’s office for Ronald Joseph Nelson’s arrest.
Lt. Snodgrass said, “We have listed her as an endangered missing person. We have requested warrants from the D.A.’s office for his arrest. If he shows up in another state and gets checked out by police, they’ll come up hot on the computers.”
But police believe that Nelson and Miller are still in the valley. If you see either Nelson or Miller, or know where they are, you are asked to call Metro Police at 229-3111.
Police say Joseph Nelson did have an ankle bracelet for his house arrest. However it did not have a global positioning system, or GPS, which would help police locate him now.

Father asks for help in finding kidnapped son, Erik Buran, as warrants issued for kidnapping.
A Reno father is asking for the public’s help in finding his 4-year-old son believed abducted by his mother in April. Lyon County issued a warrant June 27 charging Karen O’Grady, 49, with felony kidnapping in the abduction of her son, Erik Buran, on April 25. According to father, Robert Buran, he and his ex-wife have shared joint custody of Erik since their divorce in 2001. Buran had Erik three days a week, and O’Grady had him four days. Just before the abduction, Buran had filed for sole custody of his son and had lodged a complaint with Child Protective Services alleging O’Grady’s boyfriend physically abused Erik. Since then, a Reno judge awarded Buran sole custody.
Erik is listed as missing by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Nevada Child Seekers, Child Find of America and the Vanished Children’s Alliance.
Texas Missing Persons Clearinghouse Online Bulletin -Poster
• Erik Buran is 4 years old, 3 feet, 6 inches tall, with bluish-grey eyes and sandy blonde hair.
• Karen O’Grady is 49 years old, 5 feet 4 inches tall, with blue eyes and brown hair. She also uses the last names of Akers, Buran and Ligon.
• Anyone with information about their whereabouts or about a motor home O’Grady or her companion purchased just before they disappeared is asked to call the Lyon County Sheriff’s Department at 577-5096.

Project Jason: Voice for the Missing has an amazing piece on Erik Buran and has been following the story since the beginning. They bring up a rather perplexing issue when it comes to Amber Alerts, although it seems that rules were bent when it came to missing teen, VCU freshman, Taylor Behl. It would seem to me that when it came to the safety of a child no rule is beyond breaking. Why no Amber Alert issued is sad. This program was set up to alert people and help find children, not create frustrating road blocks.
I want to remind you of the post I made on September 16th, entitled “Rules Meant to be Broken?”. This post outlined the State of Virgina’s Amber Alert criteria, admittedly broken for Taylor Behl. As of news stories today, police still state they have no evidence of foul play in her case. The State never responded to my letter, which asked how they were able to do this for Taylor. In Nevada, Robert Buran has been told that Erik does not meet their criteria because it is a case that involves parental abduction. Robert tells me that his research shows that since the Amber Alert began in Nevada in July of 2003, 15 Amber Alerts have been issued. 9 of those 15 were cases of parental abductions, with one being issued by the jurisdiction that tells Robert “no”.
