After recent dental records confirmed that the remains that were found in Tillicum, WA as those of Adre’anna Jackson; Lakewood police are now being criticized for their searches.
Police conducted an extensive search last December in Lakewood for a missing ten-year-old girl.
But they were criticized at a community meeting last night for failing to search the empty lot where the girl’s bones were found this week.
Police Chief Larry Saunders says the overgrown lot about two miles from the girl’s home was not searched four months ago because it was not considered a very likely spot to find her. Tracking dogs showed no sign she might be there.
In hindsight, Saunders told the Lakewood meeting he wishes police had searched the lot.

The FBI is also been brought in to help investigate the death of Adre’anna Jackson.
Detectives continued to search the area for more bones and other evidence Wednesday. FBI investigators set up a grid to make sure their evidence recovery team scours every square inch of the footfall field-sized vacant lot where the bones were found, KIRO-TV reported.

Police said skeletal remains found Tuesday in Lakewood are those of Adre’anna Jackson, the 10-year-old girl who disappeared last December.
At a news conference, Lakewood Police Chief Larry Saunders said the remains were positively identified Wednesday and the parents of the girl have been notified.

Remains are those of missing 10-year-old Lakewood girl
Pierce County officials have identified the skeletal remains found recently in Lakewood as belonging to Adre’Anna Jackson, a 10-year-old girl who went missing in December.
Dental records confirmed the match, the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office said today. Neither the cause nor manner of the girl’s death has yet been determined.
Police are scouring the 3-acre vacant field in which the remains were found in the Woodbrook neighborhood of Lakewood, and may be searching for clues there for several more days, said Lakewood police Lt. Bret Farrar.
He said it was too early to assume that Jackson was murdered and placed in the field. Accidental death is also a possibility, he said.

Hundreds of mourners gathered at the Fourth Street Church of Christ in Selmer, TN for the funeral of Matthew Winkler.
The news media were not allowed inside the church, but those who attended the service said the minister was eulogized as a devoted husband and father.
Barbara Letson of Decatur, Ala., said Eddie Thompson, one of two people leading the service, didn’t mention Mary Winkler by name or describe what happened.
There has still been no motive as to why this tragic crime took place. Mary Winkler, the wife of the murdered pastor has allegedly confessed to the crime. However, this has not yet been confirmed. Church members stated that they had never seen any problems between the two.
Church members have said they saw nothing but a loving relationship between Matthew Winkler, a third-generation minister described as outgoing and full of charisma, and Mary Winkler, described as reserved but kind.

In late breaking news, the wife and family of the slain Tennessee pastor were found this evening in Alabama.
Thursday night, the woman and the girls were found in Orange Beach, in southern Alabama, when a police office spotted their van parked on the side of the road and pulled over to help.

Mary Winkler “hasn’t been arrested,” Johnson said. “We want to talk to her and find out what she knows” about the slaying of her husband.

Sally Blackwell, 53, had been missing since Tuesday morning when she didn’t show up for work. The woman had recently complained of threats that had been made against her.
A Child Protective Services worker whose body was found Wednesday in rural Victoria County had spoken of threats made to her at work, according to police and her family.
Tina Taulbee said her stepmother had spoken of threats she’d received as a program director for CPS. The agency investigates reports of abuse and neglect of children, and, if necessary, places them in foster care.
“In the 15 or 16 years she has been there, this is the first time she was actually scared,” Taulbee said.
