An Amber Alert has been issued for 29-day-old Brayn Dos Santos Gomes who was abducted with his mother, Maria Fatima Ramos Dos Santos, on Friday afternoon by a woman driving a black SUV. The mother was released by the abductor south of Fort Myers; however, the new born was not.
Ramos was released south of Fort Myers shortly afterward but the woman kept the baby, Florida Department of Law Enforcement spokesman Larry Long said Saturday. An Amber Alert was issued for the infant.
Police said the woman could be heading to Miami or Tampa in two-door SUV, which has window tint that is peeling. (AP)
Description of the abduction:
The mother and Brayn, as well as another woman and a baby, were approached by the woman in the SUV while walking along a road Friday, police said. The driver asked for directions to a neighborhood. The women, who did not know the driver, agreed to give directions and entered the vehicle with their children, police said.
The women showed the driver the neighborhood, and she drove the two mothers and children back toward where she picked them up, police said. The driver then forced one mother and child out of the car, and made off with Ramos and the baby, who was born Nov. 3, police said. (Herald Tribune)
Police: “We’re looking for someone who is very cunning”
“We’re looking for someone who is very cunning,” Mike Carr, a sergeant with the Fort Myers Police Department, told a 4 p.m. press briefing. “She already had a baby seat, a diaper bag and no child. She was prepared to do this.”
Police had a computer generated composite of the suspect, but were not satisfied it was an accurate depiction, Carr said.
“We’re trying to get a sketch prepared by a forensic artist,” he added. (The News Press)
Police are investigating a rather unsusal lead. The kidnapper used one of the abducted woman’s cell phones and placed a call that was recorded.
Investigators are still trying to assess the significance of the tape recording they believe holds the kidnapper’s voice.
In an unusual turn of events, investigators were able to determine that the kidnapper used the phone of one of the abducted women to make a telephone call. She pretended to call her mother, Carr said. But, the call was actually made to an area business, he added.
While the kidnapper pretended to have a conversation, an answering machine at the business recorded her voice.

What the hell is going on in this country? Since when do we parole convicted child murders? What the hell is the justice and parole departments thinking? What is the end result? Another murder!!!
Indiana State Police confirmed that the body of 16 year old Stephanie Faye Wagner was found Wednesday night after she had disappeared on Tuesday night after leaving work.
Danny R. Rouse, a 51-year-old convicted child murderer, has confessed to the murder and brought police to the body of missing 16 year old Stephanie Wagner. Stephanie Wagner had been missing and an AMBER ALERT had been issued regarding her possible abduction. The AMBER ALERT was canceled after a co -worker told police where they could find her body.
Investigators found the body of Stephanie Wagner in a northwestern Indiana field Wednesday night after the co-worker, Danny R. Rouse, told them where to look and confessed to killing her, police said.
Prosecutor Kevin Enyeart said he expected to charge Rouse with murder later Thursday. The court hearing was to continue Friday.
Rouse and Wagner left the Indian Head Restaurant, where they both worked, at about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, police said. Her mother reported her missing about six hours later.
Maybe some one would like to explain to this distraught family and the community how this
scum bag was walking the streets? Danny Rouse is a convicted child killer. He spent 26 years in prison for stabbing a 5 year old boy to death. So what’s he do after he is paroled? Stabs a teenager to death. The Kansas Parole board she be found guilt of aiding in the murder of Stephanie Wagner.
Rouse was convicted in the 1979 murder of a 5-year-old boy and stabbing of the child’s mother. He was paroled in March after spending 26 years in a Kansas prison.
Upon his release in March, Rouse requested that he be allowed to move to Indiana. His parole supervision was then transferred to a South Bend parole office. (

Someone really needs to explain why Danny Rouse was not in jail for life without parole. The taking of someone’s life means that you actually get to walk a free person? I do not think so. The Kansas Parole Board has some explaining. Seven months after this killer was paroled, he kills again. Read why this killer was in prison in the first place. He was convicted of First degree murder.
Rouse was convicted of first-degree murder in the 1979 slaying of Jason Learst at a Wichita, Kan., apartment, The Wichita Eagle reported today. Rouse also was convicted of stabbing of the boy’s mother, Kathryn Crowley.
During Rouse’s jury trial, witnesses testified that Rouse and Crowley drank beer and smoked marijuana while watching television at Crowley’s apartment. Crowley rejected a verbal sexual advance, after which he stabbed or cut her with a knife 12 times, according to court testimony.
The attack ended when Crowley collapsed and pretended to be dead. Kansas police said Rouse then went to Jason’s bedroom and cut the boy’s throat as he slept.
Rouse pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity at his trial, but a jury convicted him of first-degree murder. (

Authorities investigating the disappearance of Abigale Lynn Woods have located a black scarf near the home where she was abducted. The 21 year old mother, Stephenie Ochsenbine, had told police early on that her attacker was wearing a scarf.
On the fifth day of the investigation, Franklin County Sheriff Gary Toelke was hoping the drawing, as well as a picture of a black scarf that was recovered near the home on Saturday, would generate new clues.
The drawing shows a woman with dark hair wearing a baseball cap, and Ochsenbine told authorities the woman also was wearing a scarf. Toelke said she is believed to be between 5-foot-4 and 5-foot-8 and is heavy, perhaps about 200 pounds.
He called the scarf a “pretty significant piece of evidence” that he would like the public to see. (FOX News)
The question has arose as to what type of individual would take a child in such a violent manner. The mother, Stephenie Ochsenbine, was stabbed several times including having her throat slashed. During the violent altercation to take baby Abigale, the other younger child was left behind unharmed. What motivates someone to perform this crime?
A composite sketch of the woman wanted in connection with the kidnapping of
Abigale “Abby” Lynn Woods.
The recent kidnapping of Abigale “Abby” Lynn Woods has dominated the local news and reached the national media because of the urgency to find the newborn. Statistics show there have been roughly 200 baby abductions in the U.S. in the last two decades.
Bausman said even with a small, statistical sample, there is a pattern in the cases.
“I would not be surprised if this woman was unable to have children but maybe is using a child to shore up a relationship or maybe she recently experienced a still birth or miscarriage and felt this incredible void and she saw a way to fill that.”
Bausman doubts birth announcements on yard signs instigated this or most other abductions.
“We don’t need to be reacting to this in a closed mouth fashion of don’t put yard signs up, don’t announce to the world I’ve had a baby because these people tend to do their homework before they commit such crimes,” said Bausman. (KSDK)
Experts: Baby abductors driven by need, mental trouble
What drives a stranger to snatch a mother’s newborn?
Experts theorize it could be desperation, mental illness or lack of conscience.
But a retired FBI special agent who led a study of 120 baby abductions in the U.S. over 10 years said most women who steal infants are driven by the belief a child will resolve a problem in their lives. And that problem primarily is a desperate need to preserve a relationship with a man.
“Typically, they come from a subculture where their worth is intrinsically tied to bearing children,” said Ken Lanning, who spent 20 years in the FBI’s Behavior Science Unit at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Va.
They figure that once they come up with a child – and they devise elaborate plans to achieve that – “they’ll live happily ever after,” he said. (Belleville News Democrat)
