Stivers Family from Oregon Found Alive
The Stivers family had been missing since March 4 when they went on a trip to the coast in their motorhome. They had not been seen or heard from since. Today the family of six was found alive in a remote and snowy section of Southern Oregon.
Six family members missing in a recreational vehicle since March 4 were found alive Tuesday in a remote, snowy section of Southern Oregon, authorities said.
Bureau of Land Management workers first found two of the family members, who had decided to walk out of the woods and left the vehicle, sheriff’s deputies said.
Later, search and rescue workers in a helicopter made contact with the other four, said Sgt. David Marshall, spokesman for the Douglas County sheriff’s department.
According to the reports, the Stivers’ RV apparently became stranded near the line between Douglas and Curry counties. All have been found safe and sound.
Update: (CNN): Family in snowbound RV rescued after 17 days
GLENDALE, Oregon (AP) — Inside their snowbound RV, the family’s supplies and fuel were running low, and news reports indicated that a search for the six missing relatives had been called off.
“We had fuel and food, but we were running short. We were rationing,” said Elbert Higginbotham, one of the missing.
The family decided to send two members out for help, hoping to end more than two weeks trapped in the snowy wilderness. It worked. On Tuesday, 17 days after they first vanished during a trip to the Oregon coast, they were rescued.
