Leon Zheng, 27, Missing in Yosemite

Leon Zheng was hiking in the Yosemite National Park, and is now missing. He was hiking alone, and was expected back at work on Tuesday. When he did not show up, they initiated a search for him.

This area is dangerous for hiking, as illustrated by others that have gone missing in the same area; Hyundo Ahn and Micheal Ficery. Ahn was found about a month ago, a couple hundred yards off the trail. Ficery still has not been found.

From the Union Democrat:

Helicopters, dog teams and 60 people from at least five counties are searching for a missing Bay Area hiker in Yosemite National Park.

Leon Zheng, 27, began a solo trip somewhere in the park last Friday, Sept. 2. He was due back from his Labor Day weekend camping excursion on Monday.

When he failed to show up for work Tuesday in the San Jose area, a co-worker notified the park. Officials began a full-scale search for Zheng on Wednesday.

Search and rescue teams from Mariposa, Marin, Fresno, Mono and Santa Clara counties are assisting the Yosemite National Park team.

Yosemite spokeswoman Adrienne Freeman said Zheng is believed to have been backpacking in the areas of Tuolumne Meadows, White Wolf, Benson Lake and Seavey Pass.

Anyone in those areas between Sept. 2 and Wednesday is asked to call the Yosemite Search and Rescue office at 372-0216 or 379-1992 to say whether or not they saw a person matching Zheng’s description.

Zheng is described as having black hair and brown eyes and weighing about 150 pounds.
