Interesting Article from the Birmingham News

Some of the stats in the following article were suprising. Some of the highlights, Slightly more than half of the 47,600 missing adults tracked by the FBI are men. More than one in five of those abducted or kidnapped are black. About 62 percent of those missing are white, and that figure includes Hispanic people. The numbers of “missing” people right in America are staggering, this is a major reason that ScaredMonkeys have taken up this cause, keeping stories in the main stream spotlight is not easy even for cases that have a high interest value. Other news knocks many of the stories off even the local pages. With media so segmented in our country, a missing person in one major city could be in the very next major city that has no coverage, and essentially no one looking or seeing alerts for them. Hopefully the internet can change some of that.

The FBI tracks more than 100,000 active files on missing adults and children, but only a few of those cases ever make it to the national limelight and become household names.

The ones that do seem to share several qualities: the victims tend to be white, young, attractive and often middle- or upper-class females.
