Hannah McConnell, 13, and Gage Petherbridge, 15, Missing … Ran Away from Home Together

A nationwide search is on for 13 year old Hannah McConnell and 15 year old Gage Petherbridge who have run away together. The ran away from their homes Saturday with one family’s minivan, $680 in cash and a dog named Mandy. Looks like they have taken the important things in life. Don’t leave home without the Xbox. Think these two when found won’t be grounded until they are 18? Hopefully, they will be found safe.

The youths haven’t been seen since last Saturday, when Gage snuck out of his home and took the family’s white 1997 Pontiac Montana with Michigan license plate 6DYW54. They pair left with $680, clothing, an Xbox 360 and Gage’s dog, Mandy.

If you have any information on the two teens you’re asked to call the Genesee County Sheriff’s Dept. at (810) 257-3406

The Flint Journal reports the Vienna Township teenagers left notes and journal entries saying they were running away together. Julie McConnell says her daughter has bipolar disorder and left without her medicine. Mary Wismer says her son has had his learner’s permit since June and is a very cautious driver.

Genesee County sheriff’s Capt. Chris Swanson says police have reason to believe they may be in the area of Huntington Beach southwest of Santa Ana on the coastline in Orange County, California.

Mom fears for teen daughter who fled with boyfriend

Runaways draw national attention

Hannah’s mother, Julie, said she was told police were following a lead in the Gladwin area and were also talking with her daughter’s classmates.

Their names have been entered in a national database along with the minivan, a white, 1997 Pontiac Montana, license plate number 6DYW54.

Gage, a ninth-grader at Clio High School, does not have a driver’s license.

The teens left home early Saturday with about $700 and Gage’s cocker spaniel, Mandy.

The teens apparently ran away to be together.

Gage’s MySpace page says “im lost without her” and that he is “completly inlove (sic) with hannah elane mcconnell and no one can ever change that.”

An entry for his mood on the page shows a sad blue face next to the word “distraught.”

Hannah’s MySpace page shows two hearts with the words “I know who I love.”

Missing Michigan teen called from Nevada, boyfriend’s family says

Teens call from the road that they are running low on funds. Funny how that happens when mommy and daddy are not there to provide for your every need. I guess the two showd have thought about that before they decided to run away. $680 just doesn’t get one very far these days, especially with the cost of gas. Then again, what would a 13 and 15 year old know about these things, or personal responsibility for that matter.

A 13-year-old Vienna Township teen, who ran off with her 15-year-old boyfriend and has been missing for a week, made a call to a friend today from motel in Nevada, family members of the boyfriend said today.

Mary Wismer, Gage Petherbridge’s mother, said Hannah McConnell called a friend in Swartz Creek, telling him that they were in Nevada, but running low on money.

Police are trying to track where in Nevada the call was made, Wismer said.

UPDATE I: Michigan Teen Couple, Hannah McConnell & Gage Petherbridge’, Who Ran Away in Family’s Van Found Safe in Louisiana

Think these two are not grounded until they are 35!

A nationwide search has ended safely for a 15-year-old boy and his 13-year-old girlfriend, who turned up in Louisiana nine days after fleeing their Michigan homes in the boy’s family minivan.

Hannah McConnell and Gage Petherbridge were found Monday in Cameron Parish, Genesee County Sheriff Robert Pickell told WJRT-TV and The Flint Journal.

The boyfriend and girlfriend were playing with seagulls on a Gulf of Mexico beach, just east of the Texas state line, authorities say.

Jamie Sheridan, 31 and her 5 Year Old Son Missing Since the Night of January 18, 2008 in Utah

31 year old Jamie Sheriden and her 5 year old son have been missing since Friday evening, January 18, 2008. Authorities have commented that Jamie Sheriden suffers from a mental condition that could endanger the child.

Jamie Sheridan

Jamie Sheridan and her 5-year-old son were reported missing on Jan. 19, 2008 from their home in Castle Valley, Utah. (Photo: The Salt Lake Tribune)

Description:

  • Sheridan is a 31 year old white female
  • 5 foot 2 inches tall
  • 85 to 100 pounds
  • long brown hair that extends to the middle of her back
  • Officials say she was last seen wearing red sweat pants and an Army-type fatigue jacket.

  • The 5-year-old boy, whose name was not given
  • has longer brown hair that was pulled back in a ponytail
  • He was last seen wearing what is described as a “furry sleeper”, a diaper and black gloves.

According to the Grand County Sheriff’s Office, Jamie Sheridan, 31 and her young son were last seen late Friday night — but found to be missing from their home early the next morning.

The woman and child live in Castle Valley, according to the sheriff’s office.  Officials are concerned because they believe that Sheridan might be suffering from a mental condition that could endanger the child.

UPDATE I: Grand County officials worried about missing woman, son

“We don’t suspect any kind of foul play,” said Sheriff James D. Nyland. “In the middle of the night, she just up and took off. We don’t know where she has taken off to.”
A social services employee visited Jaime Sheridan’s Castle Valley home Friday afternoon, which may have scared the mother into thinking the state may be trying to take custody of the boy, Nyland said.
Sheridan’s father last saw his daughter and grandson about 10 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office. The father awoke about 5:30 a.m. Saturday after noticing the home was cold.
Sheridan’s father found an open door, but not Sheridan, who suffers from a mental illness, or her son.
“We found tracks towards the road from the residence,” the sheriff said.
Authorities don’t know whether Sheridan and the boy caught a ride from a passing motorist or if they went walking into the night in single-digit temperatures. Sheridan doesn’t own a vehicle and left her driver’s license behind.

21 year old Denise Amber Lee has been missing since this past Thursday. She is believed to have been abducted.  Michael Lee King has been arrested by police who is suspected of abducting Denise Amber Lee.

  • She has dirty-blonde hair below her shoulder blades and a small mole under her chin on the right side of her face

Denise Amber Lee is thought to have been taken on Thursday from North Port, where her husband found their two young children alone in the home.

Later Thursday, authorities arrested Michael Lee King, 37, who they believe snatched Lee, the daughter of a Charlotte County sheriff’s lieutenant. But there has been no sign of her.

Neighbors: Man charged in kidnapping drove through area repeatedly

Neighbors of Denise Amber Lee said they had seen her reported abductor, Michael Lee King, drive by Lee’s house several times, including early yesterday morning.

Neighbor Jennifer Eckert said she saw King park his green Camaro in the driveway of Lee’s Latour Avenue home at about p.m. yesterday. Eckert said she came outside when she heard the Camaro pull in and made eye contact with the driver, presumably King. The driver then sped off, Eckert said.

Eckert told police what she saw, and that information helped identify King and his Camaro as a suspect. She said Lee’s husband later tearfully thanked her for the help.

The suspect, Michael King was caught and arrested Thursday night, hours after Lee was snatched from her North Port home.

Witness: Kidnapped woman screamed for help

The last man to have seen North Port resident Denise Amber Lee said Friday that she screamed for him to call the police before she was sped away by accused kidnapper Michael King.

Harold Muxlow Jr., 45, was startled by the incident outside his North Port home but said he did not immediately understand that there had been a kidnapping.

Muxlow said that King, his cousin, had a “psycho” girlfriend and that such drama was not necessarily unusual.

UPDATE I: Searchers Find Unidentified Body, Is It Denise Amber Lee?

The body of an unidentified white woman was found today in Sarasota County, FL. Could it be the body of missing Denise Amber Lee? There has yet to be a positive id. Deputies also announced that they plan to hold another news conference with Lee’s family at 10 a.m. Sunday.

Searchers have found the body of a white woman in Sarasota County, but have not positively identified it, officials with the North Port police department said today at a news conference.

Investigators have been looking for Denise Amber Lee, 21, who disappeared from her home in North Port on Thursday. They arrested Michael Lee King, 36, that night and charged him with kidnapping.

Deputies also announced that they plan to hold another news conference with Lee’s family at 10 a.m. Sunday.

At another news conference this morning, authorities reiterated there is no known relationship between Lee and the man in custody in connection with her disappearance.

“At this point the investigative team has nothing to believe it was anything more than an absolute random act of violence,” said Terry Lewis, police chief for the North Port Police Department.

UPDATE II: Cops Find Body in Search for Mother of 2 Believed Abducted From Florida Home

NORTH PORT, Fla. —  Florida police on Saturday say they have found a body “likely” that of a missing mother of two, a day after arresting a man in connection with her alleged abduction and finding blonde hair and a woman’s ring in his car, MyFoxTampaBay.com reports.

UPDATE III: Grim find seems to seal a missing woman’s fate

A search-and-rescue team found the body after nearly 250 law enforcement officers from all over the region had joined in the search for Lee.

The body was found in a swampy wooded area that, though the crime-scene tape was visible from Interstate 75, was remote enough that investigators were being shuttled there by helicopter.

There is a large pond nearby, and people familiar with the area say large alligators abound.

Police would not conclusively say that the body found Saturday was Lee’s.

UPDATE IV: Medical Examiner ID’s Body In Shallow Grave As Denise Lee

The sad yet not unexpected news is coming out of Florida today. The medical examiner has positively ID’d the body found in a shallow grave as that of missing Denise Amber Lee. May she rest in peace.

TAMPA – A body found Saturday in a shallow grave in Sarasota County has been positively identified as Denise Amber Lee of North Port, authorities announced today.

Lee, the 21-year-old daughter of a veteran sheriff’s lieutenant, had been missing since Thursday.

“We’ve identified the remains of the victim we found yesterday as our victim Denise,” said North Port Police Chief Terry Lewis. “She is with God.”

American Tourist Leta Lynn Cordes Missing in the Caribbean while Vacationing on Saint Maarten, Netherlands Antilles Since 1/11/2008

49 year old Leta Lynn Cordes has been missing since Friday, January 11, 2008.Leta Lynn Cordes Leta Lynn Cordes and her husband, Frank Cordes, had been vacationing on the Caribbean island of Saint Maarten. She was last seen by her husband when she went gambling and walked to a the  near by Westin hotel about a quarter of a mile away. Leta Lynn Cordes left to go gambling with only her ID and about $100.00 in cash. She has not been seen nor heard from since.

Once again a Caribbean paradise that was a familiar and considered safe haven for an American tourist may have been responsible for the disappearance of Leta Lynn Cordes. It is shameful that reports have stated that Cordes was a drinker. If that were the case then she would have been found some where between the location where she left her husband and the hotel casino. The situation does not look good.

Description:

  • Leta Lynn Cordes is  49 years old
  •  5-feet-5
  • 145 pounds
  • with a “777″ tattoo on her back circled by flames
  •  has long dark blonde hair below her shoulders
  • she left the house she was wearing a blouse and short jeans pants

Video, Orange County Mission Viejo woman Missing

The Cordeses had just come back to their island home from dinner when Leta Lynn Cordes decided she wanted to gamble. Her husband gave her money and she walked toward a casino about a quarter of a mile away that is frequented by friends and family when they travel to the area, Honstein said.

When her husband woke up Saturday at 7 a.m., he discovered she hadn’t returned, she said. He filed a missing persons report the same day. Police and family are wondering about her whereabouts.

“It’s not her personality to leave with strangers,” Honstein said.

Police: No Sign of Missing California Woman Who Vanished in St. Maarten

Still no trace of missing woman

A search to locate the 49-year-old woman started when her husband filed a report with the police on Saturday, January 12, that his wife was missing, but up to now has had no positive results.

Police spokesman Inspector Ricardo Henson said Wednesday that a search had been carried out by the police K-9 unit on Tuesday afternoon. He said the search would continue.

The Police Department is asking anyone who may have any information that could help locate Leta Cordes to call the station.

Husband of O.C. woman missing on St. Maarten searched for her
Police report no evidence of foul play so far.

If I was the Saint Maarten authorities I would not be too quick to stress the “no sign of foul play” agenda. One would think that they would have learned from Aruba and their mis-steps in the Natalee Holloway investigation.

Investigators have no leads, and family members are wondering what happened to Leta Lynn Cordes, 49, after she left her island home to gamble.

“I want to find my wife,” said Frank Cordes, her husband.

Authorities on the island said there is no evidence that Cordes has been the victim of foul play, but haven’t ruled it out.

UPDATE I: FBI Offered to Help in Search for Missing Leta Lynn Cordes

Saint Maarten would be wise to accept the help of the FBI or face the scrutiny of turning away much needed help, similar to the problem that Aruba faced in the Natalee Holloway investigation.

Laura Eimiller, spokeswoman for the FBI, said the bureau has volunteered their help to the St. Maarten police, who are leading the investigation. The department frequently offers assistance in similar cases, although local departments lead the investigation. Eimiller was unable to confirm if the St. Maarten police accepted the assistance.

Cordes said he has tried to assist police by searching the island, although he feels he has been unfairly targeted as a suspect by the public and in some stories by the media on the case.

It would appear that the St Maarten police are focusing on the husband rather closely and his time line.

Police in St. Maarten interviewed Frank Cordes for the second time Tuesday morning as his wife, Leta Lynn Cordes, is still missing in the Caribbean island for the 11th day.

Two investigators with the St. Maarten police questioned Cordes about the couples’ time in the island and asked detailed questions about who the couple came into contact since they arrived at the island in December, Frank Cordes said.

Investigator Ricardo Henson of the St. Maarten Police said in an earlier interview that investigators verified that Leta Lynn Cordes made it to the casino that night. But in a written statement, the public relations firm representing the Westin St. Maarten casino said there was no trace of Cordes in surveillance tapes, and staff did not report seeing her.

“Upon review of the surveillance tapes from the evening of Friday, January 11, the resort security and surveillance staff found no footage of her entering the resort or casino. Additionally, the casino security director and staff reported not seeing her in the casino that evening,” read the statement. “The Westin continues to cooperate fully with island authorities, who have the Westin’s surveillance footage, and to implement its measures to ensure the safety of its guests, from a director of security, director of surveillance, security staff, security cameras, trained managers on duty and security gates manned by security officers.”

UPDATE II: Frank Cordes, Husband of Missing Leta Lynn Cordes Offers $5000 Reward

DAWN BEACH–Frank Cordes, husband of US citizen Leta Lynn Cordes who went missing on Saturday, January 12, has announced a US $5,000 reward for information on the whereabouts of his wife.

Cordes said media reports indicating he had left the island were untrue. He told The Daily Herald yesterday that he had plans to travel to California, USA, today, Wednesday, if there was a flight available. In California, he will be meeting with Leta’s family to discuss details of the case.

Cordes said that in California he would also be transferring a sum of money to an RBTT bank account that holds the reward money for any person who comes forward with information regarding Leta’s whereabouts.

Maria Lauterbach is reported to be 8 months pregnant. Her cell phone was found Dec. 20 near the main gate at Camp Lejeune. Documents: Missing Marine Claimed Rape

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (AP) — A pregnant Marine who vanished last month before she was to testify in a military probe had claimed that a superior officer raped her and that the investigation had “gone sour,” according to court documents. The woman complained about the investigation to her stepmother, who also told authorities that the 20-year-old lance corporal had bipolar disorder, once known as manic-depression, and a history of lying, the documents say. Authorities said Thursday that they plan to question the Camp Lejeune officer she accused of rape, as well as a roommate of hers who was ordered to return to the base from a training mission. They stressed the case remains a missing-person investigation.

Police: Mom told us pregnant Marine is a ‘compulsive liar’

Investigators Seeking Missing Pregnant Marine’s Male Roommate

A North Carolina sheriff said Thursday that detectives wanted to interview the man who lived with 20-year-old Maria Frances Lauterbach and was possibly the last person to talk to her before she disappeared.

Onslow County Sheriff Ed Brown said investigators were working on getting Sgt. Daniel Durham to come back to North Carolina from a training deployment in California “so we can look him in the eyes and ask him some questions.”

UPDATE I: Missing Marine Investigation: Bus Ticket Purchased but never used

The Onslow County Sherriff’s Office has confirmed that 20- year old Lance Corporal Maria Lauterbauch bought a bus ticket to Texas on December 15th–the day after she last had contact with her family.

But they say she never used it.

UPDATE II: Authorities Believe Marine’s Body Found

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (AP) – Authorities said Friday they believe they found the shallow grave of a pregnant Marine in the back yard of a comrade she accused of rape, and a person close to the case said the suspect left a note insisting the woman had killed herself.

After some slight digging in a fire pit discovered in the yard of Marine Cpl. Cesar Armando Laurean, detectives found what “appeared to be burnt human remains,” Onslow County District Attorney Dewey Hudson said Friday night.

UPDATE III: Police Say Pregnant Marine’s Body Found

Authorities say they found the burned remains of 20-year-old Lance Corporal Maria Lauterbach buried in the backyard of Marine Corporal Cesar Laurean.

Investigators say they also found blood stains in the house.  Lauterbach had accused Laurean of raping her. He has not yet been charged. And no one seems to know where he is.
Before he took off, he left a note saying Lauterbach killed herself.  Police say the evidence points to murder.

UPDATE IV: Adult, fetus found in shallow grave may be missing Marine

An arrest warrant has been issued for Cpl. Cesar Armando Laurean in the death of Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach.

He is charged with first-degree murder, although authorities have not positively identified the body as hers.

“This is consistent with what we were looking for: A pregnant lady who is the victim Maria Lauterbach and her unborn child,” Brown said.

UPDATE VI: Suspect in Marine’s death sighted on the move

JACKSONVILLE, North Carolina (CNN) — Police said Sunday they had credible information that put them “less than two hours behind” the suspect in the death of a pregnant Marine.

Earlier Sunday, Onslow County Sheriff Ed Brown said Cpl. Cesar Armando Laurean had been sighted several states away from North Carolina.

Brown did not specify a state, but police in Shreveport, Louisiana, told The Associated Press the fugitive Marine had been seen there, getting on or off a Greyhound bus.

“We don’t know if he is still in the area. We believe it may have just been a pass-through. We received information he may be headed into Texas,” Shreveport police Chief Henry Whitehorn Sr., told the AP.

“We’re working with the U.S. Marshal’s Service and other law enforcement agencies trying to locate him,” Whitehorn told The Associated Press. “We don’t know if he is still in the area. We believe it may have just been a pass through. We received information he may be headed into Texas.”

UPDATE VII: Missing US Marine, Cesar Laurean, Spotted near Guadalajara, Mexico

CNN first reported that Laurean had briefly stopped by the liquor store of Juan Antonio Ramos Ramirez in Zapopan, just outside Guadalajara. Speaking to The Associated Press late Tuesday from his store, Ramos Ramirez said Laurean walked into his store last Monday or Tuesday and the two cousins exchanged about 10 minutes of small talk about their respective families.

Body of Missing Meredith Emerson Hiker found Deceased

The sad but not unexpected news is being reported that the body of missing Meredith Emerson has been found. Gary Michael Hilton has previously been charged with kidnapping with bodily injury. Now he will be charged with her murder. Meredith Emerson, rest in peace.

The body of Buford hiker Meredith Emerson, missing since New Year’s Day in the North Georgia mountains, has been found by authorities, her family’s spokeswoman confirmed Monday night.

“We did find out just now, not that it was unexpected,” Peggy Bailey said.

She did not confirm exactly where the body was found but said, “I know it was a place where they have been looking.”

As search parties continued with a sixth day of scouring the mountains for Emerson, the man suspected of killing her faced a judge but made no comment.

Although the father of the young hiker went before cameras Monday to ask the public to “search their hearts and memories” for anything that might lead to his daughter, attorneys said that even if searchers had never found her body, Gary Michael Hilton still could have been charged with her murder.

Hilton was charged Saturday with kidnapping with bodily injury, felonies that carry a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. (AJC)

Report: Body of Missing Georgia Hiker Found

Authorities found the body of a missing hiker Monday, hours after a judge denied bond to the man accused of kidnapping her in the mountains of northern Georgia.

A source close to the investigation, who was not authorized to speak publicly and requested anonymity, said the remains of 24-year-old Meredith Emerson had been found. The disclosure came after authorities scheduled a “major announcement” in the case in Dawson County, south of where Gary Michael Hilton, 61, appeared in court.

Investigators are examining whether Emerson’s death and the disappearance of two other hikers in October in North Carolina are related.
