When sex offenders go missing … it can only mean more crimes in the future as sex predators fall below the radar of authorities.
England, Wales and Scotland has a serious missing persons case on their hands. The problem and the severity is that it is not one missing person, but hundreds. The BBC is reporting that 317 sex offenders were reported as missing or unaccounted for. Since it is common for sex offenders to re-offend, one might think this to be a major issue as to the lack of tracking of sexual predators.
The figures, for three-quarters of the police forces in England, Wales and Scotland, were disclosed to the BBC after a Freedom of Information request.
Data supplied by 38 police forces showed 317 sex offenders were reported as missing or unaccounted for.
In January 2007, a significantly higher number of forces - 49 – reported that 322 sex offenders were missing.

UPDATE I: Police Search For Missing Miami Baby
UPDATE II: Mother Arrested After Allegedly Reporting Missing Baby Hoax
As it turns out not only was 6 month old Riley Burchness never missing, he never existed. McCormic was arrested Friday morning on charges of giving false information to police officers.
A woman named Megan McCormic told police that a baby sitter never returned her 6-month-old on Dec. 23 from his home at the 5000 block of Northwest 7th Street in Miami.
Police canceled the search for the baby, whom the mother said was named Riley Buchness.
“Every question was just another lie covering up another lie until she just couldn’t hold it anymore,” Detective Freddy Ponze of the Miami Police Department said.
Police said on Friday that McCormic was lying and used the fake existence of the baby, with photographs she took from the Internet, to lure a former boyfriend, John Buchness, from Boston, who had traveled to Miami to meet his supposed son. McCormic fooled her former boyfriend into thinking she gave birth to his son, police said.
