UPDATE I: Police believe missing Gilbert woman killed during rape by Jonathan Burns
Police believe that ex-convict Jonathan Burns raped and murdered Jackie Hartman. Burns has been arrested on charges of sexual assault in the case. Just another case of a predator on the loose and an unsuspecting victim in the wrong place at the wrong time. Can we brand ex-cons to let people know who and what they are dealing with at this point? Jackie Hartman’s clothes, including a bloody shirt, bra and panties near Burn’s home.

Hartman was last seen with Burns at about 2 a.m. Sunday, and was supposed to meet her sister about three hours later. While being questioned by police, Burns admitted having sex with her and said he dropped her off about 5 a.m. and went home, according to the probable cause statement.
But cell phone records show he drove north on Highway 87 during that time and was unaccounted for between 5 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday, the court record shows. Officers searching near his apartment found Hartman’s purse, sandals, shirt, bra and panties in a trash bin near Burns’ home.
The shirt and bra were ripped in half, and there were what appeared to be bullet holes in the bloody shirt, officers wrote. (KVOA News 4)
UPDATE II: Arrest linked to missing woman
It has literally gotten to the point that back ground checks are needed before girls go out on dates. What a sad story and rather heinous act that this ex-con committed.
A 25-year-old felon has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault after police found a missing Gilbert woman’s bullet-ridden, torn clothing in a dumpster near his home, according to court documents.
Burns spent more than seven years in Arizona prisons on convictions of burglary, promoting prison contraband and an arson offense, according to the Arizona Department of Corrections Web site.
Duncan said police believe Hartman and Burns were acquaintances, although details of how they met were sketchy. “We are still looking for Jackie,” Duncan said. (AZ Central)
According to her family, Jacquelan “Jackie” Hartman, 19, was on her first date when she was reported missing early Sunday morning.
UPDATE III: Missing Gilbert woman, Jacquelan “Jackie” Hartman, met man at gas station
The man suspected of kidnapping and raping a missing Gilbert woman met her at a gas station days before her disappearance, said Daniel Smith, 20, who works at Banner Baywood Hospital with the 19-year-old woman.
“She didn’t know what she was getting herself into,” Smith said. (East Valley Tribune)
UPDATE IV: Police seek missing woman’s clothing
Police are asking for the public’s help locating clothing last worn by a missing 19-year-old Gilbert woman as they work this weekend to find her.
the public’s help is needed in locating the tan sweater and blue jeans, which could be anywhere from Chandler, where other evidence was found, to Sunflower, Ruet said.Anyone with information is asked to call Gilbert police at (480) 503-6500 (AZ Central)
UPDATE V: Search continues for missing Gilbert teen
The search continues for the 19 year old missing nursing school student Jackie Hartman. Volunteers and authorities alike helped in the search for Jackie.
Hundreds of volunteers and police continue to scour the desert northeast of metro Phoenix in search of a 19-year-old nursing student, who is thought to have been brutally raped and murdered.
Volunteers picked through the prickly pear and mesquite on foot, horseback, ATVs and dirt bikes Saturday in search of Jackie Hartman of Gilbert.Police believe Hartmans body may have been dumped in the wilderness between Fountain Hills and Payson, where Burns used his cell phone within a few hours of Hartmans disappearance.
Because of the uncertainty about whether Hartman is alive, police sent two types of K-9 units Saturday: tracking dogs to sniff for her scent, and cadaver dogs to scout for decomposition.
“We’ll be here as long as it takes, or until sundown,” said Barbara Markley, a former corrections officer from Florence. She and Amy Wells, of Mesa, headed out on foot, planning to “think like criminals.”Some 50 officers from Gilbert and Chandler police departments, the Maricopa County Sheriffs Office, the Department of Public Safety and the Arizona Game and Fish Department joined 100 trained volunteers from Sheriff Joe Arpaios posse to begin a highly coordinated search for Hartman at 6:30 a.m. Saturday.
