National Sexual Predator Information Center To Hold Press Conference
Overland Park August 16, 2006 The National Sexual Predator Information Center, today announces a press conference will be held at the Wyandotte County Courthouse on Thursday, August 17, 2006 at 10:00 am. The National Sexual Predator Information Center’s mission is to bring absconders of the State and National Sex Offender Registry into compliance, provide pro-active strategies to reduce future sexually related crimes and supply training and education to the public concerning sexual predators.
The National Sexual Predator Information Center will serve as a clearinghouse of information about convicted sex offenders who fail to register as well as provide technical and financial assistance to law-enforcement agencies in the prevention, investigation, prosecution and treatment of cases involving sex offenders. Future features of the National Center will include:
- The operation of a CyberTipline that the public may use to report absconders
- Provide grant funding for local law enforcement agencies for overtime, in order to monitor registered offenders
- Training programs for law-enforcement, educators and social-service professionals
- Distribution of photographs and descriptions of sex offender absconders nationwide
- Coordination of child-protection efforts within the public and private sector
- Networking with nonprofit service providers and state clearing-houses regarding repeat offenders
- Supplying information about effective state legislation to help further ensure the protection of children
