Missing child alert prompts different use of highway message boards
In the case of Analyce Guerra, a 28-month-old girl who was reported missing by her mother around 4 a.m., there was no vehicle description available. The Tennessee Department of Transportation and Tennessee Bureau of Investigation jointly issued an alert anyway, using the system that is designed to notify motorists of a missing child usually when a vehicle is involved.
Because there was no vehicle information, authorities published the 800 number on its digital highway message boards, which led callers to a prerecorded message with information about the missing child.
Search continues for missing Smyrna girl
Smyrna Detective Scott Byers says finding the 28-month-old girl is the priority, regardless of whether a suspect is named in her disappearance. So far, no one has.
Byers says the investigation is hindered by language. Many people who live in the apartments where the child disappeared are Hispanic. The police department has only about a half-dozen officers to who Spanish. (WMCTV)
