Small Plane Crashes in Calif., One Dead
Rescue crews pulled a plane crash victim alive from Santa Monica Bay and found the body of another after a small plane went down Monday morning. A third person was believed to be missing in the water, officials said.
UPDATE I: Small plane crashes in Santa Monica Bay; 2 dead, 1 missing
A man and a woman pulled from the water both died, said Inspector John Mancha of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Rescue boats and divers searching for the third person believed to be aboard the plane were clustered about a half-mile southwest of Santa Monica Pier where the plane went down in about 19 feet of water.
UPDATE II:The host of one of the more fun games shoes of the 1980′s “Press Your Luck,” Peter Tomarken, and his wife were killed when their small plane crashed into Santa Monica Bay. There is also another missing from the crash.
Coroner’s officials identified the two bodies late Monday afternoon.
The plane was on a volunteer medical transport flight to San Diego to pick up a passenger who needed treatment at UCLA Medical Center.
The Beech A-36 went down 200 yards offshore about 9:35 a.m. while apparently trying to return to Santa Monica Airport because of engine trouble.
