The United States Naval Academy has charged Midshipman and quarterback Lamar Owens with the rape of a female midshipman in her dormitory room.
Owens, a 22-year-old senior from Savannah, Ga., was charged under the military code of justice because the alleged attack took place on the grounds of the U.S. Naval Academy, academy spokesman Cmdr. Rod Gibbons said Wednesday.
Investigators said Owens attacked the woman last month after entering her room in Bancroft Hall without her consent.
Gibbons said the academy was offering counseling to the woman, whose name was not released by the school. Owens was not made available for comment.
Such a promising football career and future in the military all to be jeopardized for such a horrendous and stupid action.
An Article 32 hearing, similar to a civilian grand jury inquiry, will be held to determine if there is sufficient evidence to go ahead with a court-martial. The investigation is being handled by the Naval Criminal Investigation Service.

Details Of ‘Person Of Interest’ Released In Kesse Case
Last week, Orlando detectives asked the FBI to assist in verifying the person’s height and other characteristics from the photos.
Authorities admitted Tuesday that they were not able to determine as much information as they hoped from the photographs.
The authorities offered the following warning:
Evidence taken from the car last week was recently sent to labs, Local 6 News reported.
Tuesday, detectives issued a warning to the person who was driving Kesse’s car.
“If the person who is responsible for doing this is watching, it is only going to take the smallest piece of evidence,” Orlando police Sgt. Richard Ring said. “One little piece of evidence. DNA is not visible to the naked eye and other pieces of evidence are not visible to the naked eye. And, when you walk and you move throughout the planet, you leave traces of yourself everywhere you go.”
