Rescuers were searching the Harlem River for a missing rower after power boat collision
According to the AP, rescuers are searching the Harlem River for a missing rower Monday after four members of a private rowing club went overboard following a collision with a power boat.
The accident, between 5:45 a.m. and 6 a.m., occurred after the four rowers left the Peter Jay Sharp Boathouse in a scull near the intersection of the Harlem River Drive and Dyckman Street in Upper Manhattan, said Detective Bernard Gifford.
Phipps said the 29-foot motorboat left very early in the morning, when it was still dark, from Piermont in Rockland County and was heading for a marina in Connecticut to be winterized.
The sleek scull was trying to make a turn at around 181st Street when the head-on collision with the leisure craft occurred, Phipps said.
