Remains Found of Missing Kaelin Rose Glazier who had Disappeared 12 Years Ago … Suspect Billy Frank Simmons

15 year old Kaelin Rose Glazier had been missing for 12 years. Kaelin Glazier_KaelinGlazier was a sophomore at South Medford High School in Ruch, OR and was last seen November 6, 1996 at the home of Billy Simmons of Ruch, OR. Billy Simmons, according to police remains their primary suspect. Billy Simmons was the last person to see Kaelin alive. Detectives have him listed as the main person of interest. As of now no arrests have been made.

12 years after her disappearance, Glazier’s remains were found by a man working on his property, and Oregon Medical Examiner Dr. James Olson says she was a homicide victim.

The investigation had stagnated. Several retired “cold case” investigators who worked the case over time have returned to assist.

“These folks had a personal interest in this case,” Winters said. “We are going to be open-minded and see where it leads, but Mr. Simmons has always been our person of interest.”

He has not been arrested in the case.

Simmons has said police have contacted him several times but that he maintained his innocence.

Kimberly Cruz described conflicting emotions upon learning her daughter had been found.

“It is not a happy occasion when you learn your daughter was killed,” Cruz said. “But it is a relief to not have to keep searching for the truth. I am grieving and relieved at the same time.” (KOIN News)

Time Line of Events in Case of Missing Kaelin Rose Glaizier

The Investigation Continues into the Murder of Kaelin Rose Glazier

Investigators feel they have a suspect in 28-year-old Billy Frank Simmons, who was reportedly the last person to see Glazier alive.

Winters acknowledged that investigators consider Simmons a possible suspect, though he said they are keeping their options open.

“We are determined to follow every lead no matter where it takes us,” Winters said.

Missing Marine, Margaret McMahon, seen on ATM video in Salina, Kansas

The U.S. Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton, CA, are missing and confirmed Margaret_McMahonthat the status of Lance Cpl. Margaret McMahon and Pfc. George “Kevyn” Reid II was officially changed to “unauthorized absence”. Police believe that the couple may have run away together, even though McMahon’s mother fears she had been abducted.

McMahon’s mother, who fears she may have been abducted, filed a missing person’s report with the Escondido Police Department, the town where the couple shared an apartment about 20 miles from the base.

Investigators searched the couple’s apartment Thursday, Lt. Robert Benton of the Escondido Police Department told ABC News, and found no evidence of foul play.

“We don’t have any information that suggests that there’s any suspicious circumstance other than they are voluntarily missing,” Benton said.

Benton said the couple’s Chevrolet Cavalier, which is either white or silver in color, is also missing.

Benton said the couple’s Chevrolet Cavalier, which is either white or silver in color, is also missing.

UPDATE I: Missing Marine seen on ATM video in Midwest

After viewing McMahon, 20, on video Tuesday trying to withdraw money in Salina, Kan., police dropped their investigation, saying the evidence confirms that McMahon was outside their jurisdiction. Police said they “relinquished” the investigation to the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.

Lance Cpl. McMahon was identified by a relative who viewed the video, in which McMahon appeared to be alone, police said. Also on Tuesday, a day after McMahon had gone missing, someone withdrew $400 from McMahon’s bank account in Hazelwood, Mo.

McMahon, who family members said a day earlier had argued with her new husband, fellow Marine Pfc. George Kevlyn Reid, 22, appeared to be under “no duress” in the cash-machine video, said Escondido police Lt. Neal Griffin.

UPDATE II: Missing Marines May Have Gone AWOL
Theory Couple Wanted to Avoid Being Sent to Iraq

UPDATE III: Missing Marine Contacts Family

UPDATE IV: Lance Cpl. Margaret McMahon-Reid and Pfc. George Reid II surrender to military officials

A newlywed Marine couple living in Escondido created a national stir when they went missing for days, only to surrender to military officials last week after making a cross-country trip.

McMahon-Reid has resumed her duties at Camp Pendleton. Her husband is being held in the brig at Miramar Marine Corps Air Station, where he is stationed. Marine officials wouldn’t explain why one spouse is behind bars and the other isn’t.

They also haven’t said whether the couple would be punished. If Reid and McMahon-Reid are charged with going “absent without official leave,” or AWOL, their case would hardly be unique.

U.S. Aid Worker Cyd Mizell kidnapped & Missing in Southern Afghanistan Feared Dead

Cyd Mizell, a US aid worker from Eureka, California and her Afghan driver were kidnapped in southern Afghanistan in January 2008. According to the Asian Rural Life Development Foundation, both 50 year old Cyd Mizell and her driver are feared dead.

Cyd Mizell 2

Cyd Mizell & driver Abdul Hadi

Mizell worked on aid projects for the Asian Rural Life Development Foundation, or ARLDF.

A statement posted on the group’s Web site says, although there’s no confirmation, information has been received indicating the two aid workers have been killed.

No group has claimed responsibility for the abductions.

The kidnappings happened in an area known for insurgent activity. (KCBS)

Fate of US aid worker a mystery two months on, say officials

ARDLF said in a statement a month later that it had received “information over the past few days indicating that our two aid workers have been killed.”

This was, however, never confirmed and an ARDLF employee in southern Kandahar city, where they were taken, said Tuesday that they were just “rumours”.

“The case is still open,” a US official said Tuesday.

The kidnappers never contacted authorities, said Assadullah Khalid, the governor of the volatile southern province of Kandahar, the heartland of the Taliban movement waging a deadly insurgency that has included kidnappings.

“No conditions were set,” he told AFP.

The Taliban have repeatedly denied involvement, with spokesman Zabihullah Mujahed saying again Tuesday: “Our military friends have not abducted the American woman.”

Parents respond to word that kidnapped US aid worker feared dead

Statement from the parents of missing Cyd Mizell

We are all heartbroken to receive credible reports of the deaths of our daughter, Cyd, and Muhammad Hadi, her driver, in Afghanistan. While these reports remain unconfirmed, we are beginning to accept that the hoped-for outcome may no longer be possible.

Cyd knew before she went to Afghanistan that it could be a dangerous place, but she went because she loved the Afghan people and dedicated her life to serving them. We are trying to understand why someone would kill a gentle, caring person who came to their country to help the poor. Many of the people of Kandahar came to love her almost as much as we loved her, and all of us share her loss.

We thank everyone who has worked so hard to secure her release and who now seek to confirm what we’ve heard. We thank everyone around the world who’s been praying for Cyd, and for us.

Please continue to keep our family and Mr. Hadi’s family in your prayers.

We ask now that you please respect our privacy as we wait for confirmation and grieve for our Cydney.

Thank you.

Remains Found Identified as that of Missing Cori Baker

13 year old Cori Baker has been missing since November 9, 2007. Cori Baker was presumed dead and her sister’s 19-year-old boyfriend, Marquis Bullock, has been charged with her murder.

Cori_Baker2

(Cori Baker)

Remains were just recently discovered in a wooded, rocky area of Creek County. The Medical Examiner has confirmed that the remains found were that of 13 year old Cori Baker.

A skull and other remains were found Friday evening in the wooded terrain near the playing fields at Paintball Adventure Games Inc. The business is north of the Creek Turnpike near South 49th West Avenue.

Police are investigating reports that Bullock had been to the paintball facility shortly before Cori’s death.

Dental records were used to confirm that the remains were Cori’s, Medical Examiner’s Office spokesman Randy Saffell said.

Cori’s family members — who have searched extensively for the girl — were notified Monday that the remains were Cori’s, Saffell said.

Creek County Sheriff’s Capt. Mike O’Keefe said more remains as well as clothing were found during the search. The remains were scattered over a wide area.

Details about the clothing were not released, and investigators were trying to determine whether they were related to the case. (Tulsa World)

UPDATE I: More bones, clothing belonging to teen found around facility

UPDATE II: Teenager didn’t disturb remains after discovery

Zach Searle has watched enough police dramas on television to know when he has walked upon a possible crime scene.

The 15-year-old has seen how his favorite TV detectives preserve evidence so they don’t ruin cases.

That’s why he didn’t call attention to a skull he found while refereeing a paintball game on March 21.

Instead, Searle kept his discovery to himself until the game was completed. He then told his supervisors at Paintball Adventure Games Inc., who called the Creek County Sheriff’s Office.

Has Body of Missing Brianna Denison been Found … Body of Female Found in Field in South Reno, NV

Brianna Denison has been missing since January 20, 2008 when she was abducted by a serial rapist linked by DNA to a string of attacks near the University of Nevada, Reno campus. It now appears that a female body has been found and removed about 4:30 p.m. and taken to the Washoe County Coroner’s Office.

RENO, Nev. (AP) - Dozens of police officers searched for evidence in a field where the body of a woman was found Friday but declined to speculate whether it was that of Brianna Denison, a 19-year-old college student missing since she was abducted nearly a month ago.

A worker found the body about noon in a brush-covered field on the city’s south side near a light industrial area, Reno police spokesman Steve Frady said.

“There has been a lot of speculation, a lot of rumor about a possible connection with the disappearance of Brianna Denison. At this point we have no information to link that case with this one,” Frady said at a briefing.

About 45 law enforcement and crime lab personnel, including three FBI agents, remained at the scene before night fell.

Frady said the time and cause of death would be determined by an autopsy scheduled Saturday. Authorities have “no ID, not even a tentative ID,” he said.

UPDATE I: Body found in southeast Reno being moved

Authorities are moving the body of a woman found today in southeast Reno.

Spokesman Steve Frady earlier refused to comment on whether the investigation into the dead body is related to the abduction of Brianna Denison.

FOX NEWS: Is Body Found that of Missing Brianna Denison?

UPDATE II: Autopsy to Tell if Body Is Missing Reno Kidnap Victim, Brianna Denison

A worker found the woman’s body about noon Friday in a brush-covered field on the city’s south side near a light industrial area. The field is about eight miles south of the house near the University of Nevada, Reno campus where Denison was last seen in the early morning hours of Jan. 20.

“There has been a lot of speculation, a lot of rumor about a possible connection with the disappearance of Brianna Denison. At this point we have no information to link that case with this one,” Reno police spokesman Steve Frady said.

UPDATE III: Female Body ID’d as that of Missing Brianna Denison

RENO, Nev. —  Police say the body of a woman found in a field in Reno is that of a college student missing since she was abducted nearly a month ago.

The body of 19-year-old Brianna Denison was discovered Friday in a grown-over lot by a business park on the city’s south side. Police confirmed Saturday that the body was hers.

Autopsy results confirm that body is that of missing teen Brianna Denison

Reno Police confirm that the body found Friday in South Reno is that of missing Reno teen Brianna Denison.

Police say that Denison was strangled to death, and her body had been in South Reno for at least a week.

In a press conference, Police say they believe Denison’s kidnapper and murderer is still in the Reno area.  They also believe he is a serial rapist.   Police found DNA evidence at the scene of the crime that they say links the suspect to other sexual assaults near the UNR campus.

They describe the suspect as white man with light brown/dirty blonde hair.  He is 5′8” to 5′ 10” with a slender to medium build. The victim said the suspect was wearing a dark hooded pull over sweat shirt with no zippers or markings, athletic type nylon silver sweat pants with black stripes, and white tennis shoes.

Cyd Mizell, American Woman Missing and Kidnapped in Afghanistan

Cyd Mizell, a 49 year old American woman was kidnapped from a residential neighborhood as she was on her way to work in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Masked gunmen kidnapped a burqa-clad American aid worker and her driver. The abduction took place at 7:50 am local time in District 6 on the south side of the downtown.

Cyd Mizell, who worked in Kandahar for the Asian Rural Life Development Foundation, was snatched from a residential neighborhood as she was on her way to work. Jeff Palmer, the aid group’s international director, said the group had not been contacted by the kidnappers and that he did not know their identity or demands.

Asadullah Khalid, the provincial governor, blamed the kidnappings on the “enemy of Islam and the enemy of Afghanistan.” Khalid said the 49-year-old American was wearing a burqa when she was seized.

A Taliban spokesman said he had no immediate information that the Islamic militia was behind the kidnappings.

Kidnappings for ransom are an increasing problem in Afghanistan. Dozens of Afghans have been abducted in the last year, and heavy rumors persist nationwide of foreign governments paying large ransoms to win the freedom of their citizens.

In a likely plea to the woman’s captors, Khalid noted that Mizell respected Afghan traditions by wearing the burqa and speaking the local languages. She did not travel with armed guards, he said.

An American aid worker has been kidnapped with her driver while travelling to work in a volatile region in southern Afghanistan.

Unknown gunmen took the pair outside of the southern city of Kandahar, said provincial governor Asadullah Khalid.

He said the gunmen had not contacted the government or the aid agency Asian Rural Life Development Foundation, where she worked.

Mr Khalid added that police and intelligence officials were working to find the woman, who he said had lived in the country for years. (BBC)

UPDATE I:  Afghan Women Protest American Kidnapping

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan (AP) — About 500 Afghan women gathered in a rare mass protest Tuesday against the kidnapping of an American aid worker. The women, many wearing burqas, called on officials to find the captive American and urged the kidnappers to release her.

Officials said they still had not identified any suspects in the kidnapping of Cyd Mizell and her Afghan driver, Abdul Hadi. Gunmen abducted the two Saturday in a residential neighborhood of the southern city of Kandahar.

The demonstration by so many Afghan women in the conservative southern province of Kandahar was a rare display of women’s wishes. The 90-minute meeting was filled with prayers and speeches calling on government leaders to act.

UPDATE I: Man Sought in Teen’s ‘Suspicious’ Disappearance

Brianna Denison Reported Missing Sunday After Friends Discover Blood on Her Pillow

Authorities have announced that they wanted to talk to an unnamed man in his 40s who may have information in Brianna Denison’s whereabouts. The man dropped Denison’s friend off at the house where she was staying after she failed to get a taxi cab.

A man in a sport utility vehicle picked up one of Denison’s friends around 1 a.m. Sunday at the Sands Regency Hotel Casino after she failed to find a taxi. The driver dropped her at the house where Denison was staying. While the ride was without incident and police are not calling the man a “suspect,” they say that he is a “person of interest” who may know something about the disappearance. “It’s a leaf that’s unturned,” Macdonald said.

Brianna Denison_11

Police today released surveillance image of a car driven by a man who they say may know something about Denison’s whereabouts.

Police in Reno, Nev., want to talk to a man they believe may have information about a 19-year-old woman’s “suspicious” disappearance Sunday.

Brianna Denison was last seen around 4 a.m. Sunday when she went to sleep on the sofa at a friend’s house near the University of Nevada in Reno. The two had been at a party at the Sands Regency Hotel Casino earlier in the night. The friend gave Denison a blanket and pillow before going upstairs to bed.

When the friend came downstairs later in the day, Denison was missing and a bloodstain the size of a “silver dollar” was on the pillow she had been using, Lt. Robert Macdonald, a spokesman for the Reno Police Department, told ABC News.

The blood caused some alarm for police, Macdonald said, but the bigger concern was that it appeared Denison had disappeared wearing no shoes and only the sweats and a light shirt she’d worn to bed. Her cell phone and purse had also been left behind.

UPDATE II: Search on for Woman Missing Who Disappeared From Nevada Home

A 19-year-old college student mysteriously vanished from a Reno, Nev., home early Sunday morning, and cops fear she may have been kidnapped.

“We’re treating this as an abduction case right now,” Lt. Robert McDonald of the Reno Police Department told FOX News. “A small amount of blood on her pillow is of interest to us.”

Cops are looking for a tan-colored, later-model GMC or Chevy Suburban and a white male, about 45 years old, who might be of Latin descent.

“He’s certainly a person of interest. We’re treating him as a person of interest, not a suspect,” McDonald said.

The man driving the vehicle had picked up a friend of Denison’s earlier that evening from the party both were attending when the friend was trying to hail a cab and dropped her off without incident at Mackay Court, the residence where she lived and Denison was staying, McDonald told FOXNews.com.

UPDATE III: Friends of Missing Brianna Denison set up FACE BOOK site

Brianna_Denison_FB

Friends of missing teenager Brianna Denison have set up a “Find Bri” page on the popular social networking site Facebook.com.

The page, set up by Ashley Stern of Colorado, shows a photo of the 19-year-old who has been missing since late this weekend.

The page can be found here and encourages anyone with information about Denison to call a number listed at the bottom.

America’s Most Wanted

After leaving the casino, police say Brianna returned to a friend’s home at 1395 MacKay Court at around 4 a.m., and was reportedly last seen falling asleep on a couch.  The residence is in an area close to the University of Nevada, and is populated mostly by college students living off-campus.  That was the last time anyone saw the 19-year-old psychology student.

Earlier that night, a friend, who was also staying at the MacKay Court residence, solicited a ride from an unknown male.  The girl arrived home safe and sound, and police say that the journey was without incident.

UPDATE IV: Reno Cops: Missing Student Was AbductedBrianna Denison_5

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Investigators went door to door Tuesday searching for a 19-year-old college student who they believe was kidnapped from a friend’s home over the weekend. Brianna Denison was last seen around 4 a.m. Sunday when she went to sleep on her friend’s couch after a night of partying. She slept near an unlocked glass door and used a 2-foot-tall teddy bear as an extra pillow, police said.

When the friend awoke, Denison and the teddy bear were gone. Her purse, cell phone and clothes, including two pairs of shoes, were undisturbed, police said.

“We have not come up with any other clues, any of the items or anything that would lead us to Brianna at this time,” police Lt. Ron Holladay.

UPDATE V: FBI Joins Search for ‘Abducted’ Teen
Authorities Now Say Brianna Denison Was Likely Taken From Her Friend’s Reno Home

The FBI has joined the investigation into what police now say was likely the abduction of a teenage woman from a friend’s Reno, Nev., home sometime Sunday morning.

Tips, Frady said, continue to come to investigators. “We are continuing to talk to people,” he said. “We are getting information, and we’re continuing to follow those leads.”

Authorities also continue to seek an unnamed man in his 40s, who they believe may have information about Denison’s whereabouts.

The man became implicated in the abduction investigation after he dropped another one of Denison’s friends at the same house where she had been staying. Many college-age women share the rental house near the University of Nevada.

Authorities say that the man picked up Denison’s friend around 1 a.m. Sunday at the Sands Regency Hotel Casino after she failed to find a taxi. The driver, considered for now a “person of interest” rather than a “suspect,” dropped the young woman at the house roughly three hours before Denison and another friend returned from the same party.

UPDATE VI: Denison Investigators Interview Registered Sex Offenders

Investigators have begun interviewing sex offenders who live in the neighborhood where Brianna Denison disappeared from. They say within a one-mile span of the home on Mackay Way, there are about 100 registered sex offenders…and police want to talk to all of them.

Officers checked every empty home, building and alley in the Mackay Way neighborhood, leaving no trash can unturned. With no sign of Brianna, they say their next step was taking a closer look at neighbors with past convictions of a sex crime.

Reno search focuses on sex offenders

Police question nearly 100 as they continue hunt for former Mendocino woman

The Regional Sex Offender Unit, which includes Reno and Sparks police as well as Washoe County sheriff’s deputies, was focusing on sex offenders who live within a mile of the Mackay Court residence where Denison was staying before she disappeared.

That was part of a larger effort to contact more than 1,700 sex offenders registered in Washoe County.

“We’re continuing to be out in the field and the sex offender unit is also working on this,” said Steve Frady, public information officer for the Reno police and fire departments.

Authorities expressed frustration with the search.

“From our perspective, we don’t have any credible leads in which to follow up at this point,” University of Nevada, Reno Police Chief Adam Garcia said Wednesday night.

“Basically, Brianna has disappeared. She has fallen off the face of the Earth,” he told a Reno radio station.

UPDATE VII: Possible Suspect Sketch Released In Missing Teen Case

Brianna denison-suspect-sketch

(sketch of Reno, NV serial rapist)

Already linked to the December sexual assault of a woman in Reno, police said Thursday they now have DNA evidence that also ties the suspected abduction of Brianna Denison to an attack in the same neighborhood back in late November.

Police also released a composite sketch of a suspected rapist in a previously unreported attack in the area in October that investigators said is “not inconsistent” with the descriptions in the other three cases.

The developments stem from an “exponential increase” in information flowing into police tip lines since investigators released a description on Monday of a suspect in a December kidnapping and sexual assault also near campus of the University of Nevada, Reno, Reno Police Commander Ron Holladay said.

Police said DNA helped link that crime to evidence collected at the Reno home where the 19-year-old Denison last was seen in the early morning hours of Jan. 20.

On Thursday, Holladay said they now have connected all three attacks with DNA and were investigating the October rape of a woman who came forward on Wednesday to report she was attacked at gunpoint in a UNR parking garage within 100 yards of a campus police station.
