Missing Moorehead, MN Runaway Teen Amber Akerley Found Safe 4 Years Later

Amber Akerly (then 15) went missing on April 10, 2003. The Moorehead, MN teen has been found alive an well in Texas, some 4 years after her disappearance. She is presently 19 and has a child. A runaway story with a happy ending.

Police said Amber Akerley initially was afraid to call her mother for fear she’d get in trouble for running away.

The family eventually changed their number, and when Amber did try to reach them, she couldn’t find them.

Amber is now 19 and has a child. Police Detective Mike Detloff said she’s been in contact with her family and plans to move back to Moorhead this summer. (Pioneer Press)

Over the years there have been several tips and sightings of Amber Akerly; however, she is now home safe and sound.
