Pedro Ames of Atlanta, GA was arrested Sunday in the parking lot of a motel on the Black Horse Pike near Exit 3 of the New Jersey Turnpike. After acting suspiciously police learned after a license verification that Pedro Ames was possibly involved in the disappearance of a young girl, also from Atlanta.
Police arrested Ames and found the girl inside a motel room. She appeared to be unharmed. The girl went missing on Wednesday.
The girl told police that she left Atlanta on Friday with Ames, whom she knew, and that they were supposed to be going to North Jersey to visit his relatives.
Police charged Ames with endangering the welfare of a child and aggravated sexual assault on a girl under the age of 13. The girl was turned over to the custody of the state Division of Youth and Family Services to await a reunion with her family.
Ames was being held today in the Camden County Jail on $200,000 full cash bail.
Atlanta police said charges there were pending.
